The aim of this paper is to study two different and conflicting memories of the Great War developed in fascist Italy. In particular, an attempt will be made to focus on the cases of Carlo Delcroix and Roberto Farinacci. They were both born in 1890’s and took part in the war, during which Delcroix was severely mutilated. Alongside the few traits they had in common, many differences divided their political lives. Farinacci soon joined Fascism, became one of the leaders of the radical wing and, in the second half of 1930s, supported the alliance with Nazi Germany. In the decades subsequent to the unification of the Kingdom of Italy, achieved in 1861 with the proclamation of Vittorio Emanuele II as the king of the new State, the Italian peninsula became covered with many commemorative monuments. These were devoted, first of all, to honour the men who played a leading role in the heroic deeds of the Risorgimento but also to remember the places where the major historical events occurred. The shifting evocations of squadrismo: remembering the massacre of Palazzo d'Accursio in Fascist Bologna

The massacre of Palazzo d’Accursio is considered one of the first events in the rise of the Fascist squads. This article analyzes the ways in which the event was described in Bologna during the twenty years that followed it. It is believed that in the first few years, commemorations that emphasized the role of the Fascist squads were not very common. Instead, they concentrated on the life of Giulio Giordani, a murdered lawyer and opposition councilor, who became a martyr. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie dyskursu o upamiętnieniu zbrodni wołyńskiej na forum parlamentu III RP. Praca oparta została o analizę materiałów pochodzących bezpośrednio z polskiego parlamentu, takich jak: sprawozdania stenograficzne z posiedzeń Sejmu, sprawozdania stenograficzne z posiedzeń sejmowych komisji, ale również o doniesienia medialne, publikowane w Internecie i prasie codziennej. Mourning Missing Migrants: Ambiguous Loss and the Grief of Strangers

While the term missing refers to various instances and practices, we focus on the bodies of deceased migrants that remain unidentified, and on the inability of families to mourn someone when there is no body to grieve for. We deploy some ethnographic fragments of how Italian communities sometimes mourn those who are buried without a name and we describe the many problems of mourning someone whose fate is unknown through a discussion of the notion of ‘ambiguous loss’. Our contribution articulates some of the politics around deaths in migration by considering how missing migrants and their bodies are mourned in multiplicity. peerReviewed
