Paleoclimate and bubonic plague: a forewarning of future risk?
2010
Background Human cases of plague (Yersinia pestis) infection originate, ultimately, in the bacterium's wildlife host populations. The epidemiological dynamics of the wildlife reservoir therefore determine the abundance, distribution and evolution of the pathogen, which in turn shape the frequency, distribution and virulence of human cases. Earlier studies have shown clear evidence of climatic forcing on contemporary plague abundance in rodents and humans. Results We find that high-resolution palaeoclimatic indices correlate with plague prevalence and population density in a major plague host species, the great gerbil (Rhombomys opimus), over 1949-1995. Climate-driven models trained on these…
Searching for Syntax in the Early Medieval Commentaries on Donatus
2023
This study aims at contributing to the reconstruction of the metalanguage and the specific terminology used by grammarians with reference to the reflection on syntax, as it emerges from the analysis of Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages grammar texts. The study focuses on the description of prepositions within the commentaries on Donatus’s Artes. Despite the overall lack of a systematic treatment of syntax within the Greek-Latin grammatical tradition, the description of specific partes orationis, e.g. praepositio, shows actually traces of a certain reflection on syntax. The metaterminology used by grammarians to describe the mutual relation between linguistic elements seems to go even bey…

Representative major element compositions of clinopyroxenes and phlogopites from ultrapotassic rocks from Nangqian basin (Eastern Tibet)
2020
Representative major element compositions (in wt%) of clinopyroxenes and phlogopites from Nangqian ultrapotassic rocks. In-situ major-element compositions of mineral phases were obtained using the JEOL JXA-8230 Electron Microprobe at ISTerre, University Grenoble Alpes. Analytical conditions were 15 kV accelerating voltage and 12 nA beam current. The ZAF procedure was applied to reduce the raw data. The microprobe was calibrated using natural and synthetic standards. An X-ray element map of a calcite-bearing aggregate was acquired using 15 kV accelerating voltage and 10 nA beam current.

Sample details on OSL data for aeolian sediments in north-eastern part of European Sand Belt
2019
A compilation of previously published and unpublished absolute age (OSL and TL) determinations of aeolian sediments from the north-eastern part of European Sand Belt. Contains age, error, sampling depth, location etc. and a reference to data source. Coordinates of sampling locations for contemporary publications are taken from field observations (GPS), but older ones - published schematic maps. Data set is created according to schema of DATED-1 database (https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.848117).
Commentary on the MID3 Good Practices Paper
2017
Contains fulltext : 178217.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) During the last 10 years the European Medicines Agency (EMA) organized a number of workshops on modeling and simulation, working towards greater integration of modeling and simulation (M&S) in the development and regulatory assessment of medicines. In the 2011 EMA - European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) Workshop on Modelling and Simulation, European regulators agreed to the necessity to build expertise to be able to review M&S data provided by companies in their dossier. This led to the establishment of the EMA Modelling and Simulation Working Group (MSWG). Also, there was agreement reach…

Gambling disorder in adolescents: what do we know about this social problem and its consequences?
2018
Abstract Gambling disorder (GD) is a psychiatric condition and it is characterized by a maladaptive pattern of gambling behavior that persists despite negative consequences in major areas of life functioning. In Italy, CNR (National Research Council) underlined how over 17 million, 42.8% of the population aged 15–64 have a gambling behavior. Among them, there are over one million students, aged 15–19, equal to 44.2% of Italian students; the number of minors in Italy with GD in 2017 was 580,000, equal to 33.6%. Various psychosocial treatment models have been adapted for GD; on the other hand no drug has received regulatory approval in any jurisdiction as a specific psychopharmacological trea…
Comparison of spike parameters from optically identified GABAergic and glutamatergic neurons in sparse cortical cultures
2015
We are pleased to note that our publication “Comparison of spike parameters from optically identified GABAergic and glutamatergic neurons in sparse cortical cultures” by Weir et al. (2015) raised some discussion on the feasibility of solely electrophysiological discrimination of distinct neuronal subpopulations in vitro. We agree with Becchetti and Wanke (2015) that their report and our study on the same question were conducted with different technical approaches and that this may explain the observed differences between both studies. Although we obviously recorded a reduced spontaneous neuronal activity under our sparse culture conditions, these conditions were necessary to enable the uneq…
