Development of micro chemical, biological and thermal systems in China: A review

2010

The interest in micro technologies for application in chemical, biological and thermal systems has increased considerably in China because microreactors or microfluidics in general demonstrate some remarkably advantages such as inherent miniaturization and portability, intensification of heat and mass transfer, quick analysis results, high-throughput and low consumption of reagents. This review focuses on the recent advances in the micro technologies in China including microreactor-based systems for chemical processing and analysis, biological microfluidics for DNA analysis, cell handling and analysis, separation based detection, protein based applications and immunoassays, micro heat trans…

Composite Material Recycling Technology—State-of-the-Art and Sustainable Development for the 2020s

2021

Recently, significant events took place that added immensely to the sociotechnical pressure for developing sustainable composite recycling solutions, namely (1) a ban on composite landfilling in Germany in 2009, (2) the first major wave of composite wind turbines reaching their End-of-Life (EoL) and being decommissioned in 2019–2020, (3) the acceleration of aircraft decommissioning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and (4) the increase of composites in mass production cars, thanks to the development of high volume technologies based on thermoplastic composites. Such sociotechnical pressure will only grow in the upcoming decade of 2020s as other countries are to follow Germany by limiting and ba…

Iron-based metal-organic framework: Synthesis, structure and current technologies for water reclamation with deep insight into framework integrity.

2021

Water is a supreme requirement for the existence of life, the contamination from the point and non-point sources are creating a great threat to the water ecosystem. Advance tools and techniques are required to restore the water quality and metal-organic framework (MOFs) with a tunable porous structure, striking physical and chemical properties are an excellent candidate for it. Fe-based MOFs, which developed rapidly in recent years, are foreseen as most promising to overcome the disadvantages of traditional water depolluting practices. Fe-MOFs with low toxicity and preferable stability possess excellent performance potential for almost all water remedying techniques in contrast to other MOF…

Detraditionalization, Hyper-consumption and Ambivalence

2015

During the past 20 years, European football has witnessed an intense change process that has radically transformed some of its main structural characteristics. This process is related to the same tendencies that have affected other aspects of social and economic life in western societies, such as the communication technologies revolution, the progressive rationalization of work, the increase in migration, the commodification of human activity, and the development of social and economic globalization processes, to name a few of the most relevant changes. These trends are usually thought to have had a strong influence on the recent evolution of football, giving rise to a redefinition of its c…

Effectiveness of Entrepreneurial Universities: Experiences and Challenges in Digital Era (A Systemic Approach)

2021

The modern world actively discusses the challenges that will lead to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. As the specialists assume, part of the jobs will be replaced by artificial intelligence. In addition, creation of completely new jobs is expected. As for the jobs that might be maintained in future, skills upgrading will be particularly important. In such a turbulent environment of economic development, universities, and in particular entrepreneurial universities, play a significant role. We think so as these universities have special structures that promote form a university-industry-government triple helix, reskilling and commercialization of new ideas, etc. Due to the above-mentioned fa…

GIORNALISMO E VETRINIZZAZIONE SOCIALE. LE DERIVE DELLA LOGICA SPETTACOLARE IN ITALIA

2014

The article focuses on the development of a television market model in Italian journalism in the last two decades, characterized by the success of the "entertainment" frame in both TV and print news. The use of a spectacular framing and commercialization of news has its roots in the American popular journalism of the 1800s, but is today connected to the more recent of a «Showcase» (or «display window») communication model. Each place is or can be a stage, and the traditional definition of news is revised: journalism does not present news objectively, but it offers dramatized reconstructions of parts of reality, focusing on the visual impact of the events and on the narrative strategy used t…

Modelling Collaborative Logistics Policies that Impact the Performance of the Agricultural Sector

2018

The performance of the agricultural sector is considered a fundamental factor for achieving sustainability of the most vulnerable population as well to meet the world’s food needs. This is how countries like Colombia, recognize in their government plans the importance of the development of sector leveraged by infrastructures boosting their results, however, the instrumentation and design of public policies are a challenge for the governors given the dynamic complexity of the system. Through this research, we propose a model for the analysis of logistic public policies in the agricultural sector of the potato, where the collaboration through public-private partnerships (PPP) for the implemen…

Progress in 3-D Multiperspective Display by Integral Imaging

2009

Three-dimensional (3-D) imaging techniques have the potential to establish a future mass-market in the fields of entertainment and communications. Integral imaging (InI), which can capture and display true 3-D color images, has been seen as the right technology for 3-D viewing for audiences of more than one person. Due to the advanced degree of its development, InI technology could be ready for massive commercialization in the coming years. This development is the result of a strong research effort performed over the past few years. In this sense, this paper is devoted to reviewing some recent advances in InI, which have allowed improvement in the response of InI systems to the problems of …

From the Knowledge Creating Process to the Knowledge Creating Outcome: The Way to go for Multinational Corporations

2017

Continuous creation of new knowledge is an activity that is said to enable organizations gain competitive advantage in their operations. However, apart from a few studies that have generated a trail of similar studies on this subject, there remains a shortage of research on how the activity is to be coordinated from input to outcome phase for maximum benefit. This paper presents a proposal to study the knowledge creation activity with a focus on Multinational Corporations and builds on the characteristics of the knowledge creation activity: knowledge creating input (the means used to generate new knowledge); knowledge creating output (the result of the knowledge creating process); and the k…

Demand for and Pricing of Mobile Internet: Evidence from a Real-World Pricing Experiment

2006

Commercialization of innovations frequently stumbles. A prominent recent example are the early (i.e. pre3G)mobile phone-enabled Internet services, whose European takeup was slower than expected. To determine why, we build a structural model of demand for such services and estimate it using consumerlevel panel data from a real world pricing experiment. The experiment allows for a decomposition of the number of wireless connections into the number of needs instances where a consumer would establish a connection if the price were zero and the conditional probability of establishing a connection. We find that needs were plenty and potential consumer surplus several magnitudes higher than that a…
