Measuring spectrally-resolved information transfer for sender- and receiver-specific frequencies

2020

AbstractInformation transfer, measured by transfer entropy, is a key component of distributed computation. It is therefore important to understand the pattern of information transfer in order to unravel the distributed computational algorithms of a system. Since in many natural systems distributed computation is thought to rely on rhythmic processes a frequency resolved measure of information transfer is highly desirable. Here, we present a novel algorithm, and its efficient implementation, to identify separately frequencies sending and receiving information in a network. Our approach relies on the invertible maximum overlap discrete wavelet transform (MODWT) for the creation of surrogate d…

Which new semantic for new shapes?

2006

There are two innovations which have drastically changed the building process: the operational continuity of the design and construction phases, and the software allowing not only the representation but also the autonomous creation of complex shapes never before thought of just because they could not be represented. This last innovation gave rise to a new design paradigm whose tools, according to their supporters, are the most advanced fields of mathematics and information science. Some ways of using these new possibilities gave rise to a radical, problematic, change in the relationship net between the designer’s intentions, the shapes through which they express them (invented or self-gener…

The Effect of Negative Electronic Word of Mouth on Switching Intentions: A Social Interaction Utility Approach

2016

The aim of this chapter is to gain insight on negative eWom about brands from a sender perspective, taking into account individual and social factors. We develop and test a conceptual model using a sample of 302 Spanish active users of social networks who have complained online in 2013. This study provides several theoretical implications. Firstly, using the Social Interaction Utility framework, we analyse the influence of social motivations on negative eWom. Our results show that social motivations are the primary antecedents leading consumers to communicate their negative experiences to other consumers. Successful network sites should identify the effect of social motivations and manage t…

The Multi-Faceted Concept of Transparency

2014

Transparency has become a catchword and in the economic-political debate is often seen as a universal remedy for all sorts of problems. In this paper, we analyze and discuss the meaning and use of the concept of transparency in economic research. We look for common denominators across different areas where the concept is used, and find that transparency in essence is about reductions in information asymmetries, and therefore entails the transfer of information from a sender to a receiver. Transparency goes beyond mere information disclosure in that it has a demand-side dimension: the information transferred should be trustworthy and have a value to the receiver. We emphasize the distinction…
