Common Misunderstandings of Deterrence Theory in Information Systems Research and Future Research Directions
2022
In the 1980s, information systems (IS) borrowed deterrence theory (DT) from the field of criminology to explain information security behaviors (or intention). Today, DT is among the most commonly used theories in IS security research. Our review of IS research applying DT highlights that many fundamental assumptions of DT are unrecognized and therefore unexamined. This may have resulted in misunderstandings and conceptual confusions regarding some of the basic concepts of DT. For example, some IS studies confuse general deterrence with specific deterrence or do not recognize the difference between the two. Moreover, these fundamental assumptions, when directly examined, may provide importan…
Actual and Potential Pedagogical Use of Tablets in Schools
2013
This study reviews the potential of tablet technology for teaching and learning. In autumn 2012, we conducted a focused survey comprising quantitative and qualitative questions with Finnish teachers (N = 171, from 54 schools). We focused on perceived pedagogical opportunities and the actualized pedagogical potential of tablets at schools. The survey results indicate that the actual usefulness of tablets in schools was significantly less than what teachers perceived as the pedagogical potential. However, the results demonstrate the positive impact these devices are having on teaching and learning, as well as prompting changes in pedagogical perspectives. Teachers stated that tablets can dive…
Irradiation Effects in Optical Fibers
2010
Intrinsic and extrinsic optical fiber-based sensors are promising devices to be used in very different and complex environments, by their very nature: capabilities to work under electromagnetic fields; possibility to carry multiplexed signals (time, wavelength multiplexing); small size and low mass; ability to handle multi-parameter measurements in distributed configuration; possibility to monitor sites far away from the controller. In the case of the optical fibers, the possibility to be incorporated into various types of sensors and actuators, free of additional hazards (i.e. fire, explosion), made them promising candidates to operate in adverse conditions as those required by space appli…
Crystal structure of a 1:1 salt of 4-aminobenzoic acid (vitamin B10) with pyrazinoic acid
2018
The paper reports the crystal structure of novel salt of 4-aminobenzoic acid (Vitamin B10) with pyrazinoic acid.
Crystal structure ofN-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)glycyl-(Z)-β-bromodehydroalanine methyl ester [Boc–Gly–(β-Br)(Z)ΔAla–OMe]
2014
In a dehydroamino acid with a C=C bond between the α- and β-C atoms, the amino acid residues are linked trans to each other and there are no strong intramolecular hydrogen bonds. The torsion angles indicate a non-helical conformation of the molecule.
Crystal structure of diethyl 2-amino-5-{4-[bis-(4-methyl-phen-yl)amino]-benzamido}-thio-phene-3,4-di-carboxyl-ate.
2019
The title compound forms a head-to-head centrosymmetric dimer, involving a pair of intermolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. It also forms two intramolecular bonds between its amine and amide and the ester carbonyl groups.
Integrated marketing communications in high-quality hotels of central and southern Dalmatia - A study from the perspective of managers and guests
2012
Although the implementation of Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) has been studied in different contexts and countries all over the world, further contributions are needed to consolidate the concept. Little research has been done on the integration of marketing communications in tourism-related sectors. Moreover, previous studies have focused mainly on managers’ opinions while overlooking consumers’ perceptions of IMC. The purpose of this research is to study in greater detail the IMC concept in the tourism sector, specifically in the hotels of Central and Southern Dalmatia, from a double perspective: managers-guests. Therefore, managers of 15 high-quality hotels and 118 guests were …

An Efficient Implementation of Parallel Parametric HRTF Models for Binaural Sound Synthesis in Mobile Multimedia
2020
The extended use of mobile multimedia devices in applications like gaming, 3D video and audio reproduction, immersive teleconferencing, or virtual and augmented reality, is demanding efficient algorithms and methodologies. All these applications require real-time spatial audio engines with the capability of dealing with intensive signal processing operations while facing a number of constraints related to computational cost, latency and energy consumption. Most mobile multimedia devices include a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) that is primarily used to accelerate video processing tasks, providing high computational capabilities due to its inherent parallel architecture. This paper describes…
