International audience; We are at a major turning point, probably irreversible for thousands of years. Despite the continued use of slogans like ‘Save the Planet’, it is living beings, more than the Earth (which has already seen many upheavals) who are threatened with extinction. Although the proponents of the term Anthropocene agree that human activities have become a force that is influencing the geological course of the Earth, and stratigraphers are already finding traces of that process in rocks and sediments (Zalasiewicz 2010), we can however identify two contrasting narratives about the Anthropocene.

AbstractPeatlands are carbon dioxide (CO2) sinks that, in parallel, release methane (CH4). The peatland carbon (C) balance depends on the interplay of decomposer and CH4-cycling microbes, vegetation, and environmental conditions. These interactions are susceptible to the changes that occur along a successional gradient from vascular plant-dominated systems to Sphagnum moss-dominated systems. Earthworms are an important soil taxon as ecosystem engineers, providing a variety of crucial ecosystem functions and services. Little is known about their diversity and distribution at large spatial scales, despite the availability of considerable amounts of local-scale data. Coincidental loss of bacterial virulence in multi-enemy microbial communities.

The coincidental virulence evolution hypothesis suggests that outside-host selection, such as predation, parasitism and resource competition can indirectly affect the virulence of environmentally-growing bacterial pathogens.
