Comparative cariostatic efficacy of a novel Nano-silver fluoride varnish with 38% silver diamine fluoride varnish a double-blind randomized clinical …

2019

Background To evaluate the clinical cariostatic efficacy of a concocted 5% Nano-silver incorporated Sodium fluoride (NSSF) dental varnish with 38% Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) in preventing the progression of dentinal caries of primary molars. Material and methods A total of 159 active dentinal carious lesions in primary molars (from 50 children) were selected and randomly divided into two groups; NSSF and SDF. Varnish application was performed at the baseline visit and follow-up is carried out at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months. Parameters such as caries activity, depth, size, colour, and presence or absence of pain were noted at baseline and follow-up visits. Results The intergroup comparison of c…

Approaches used to care for carious primary molars among pediatric dentists and general dental practitioners in Saudi Arabia

2018

Background The aim of this cross sectional study was (1) to identify and compare the approaches which are used to care for carious primary molars between pediatric dentists (PDs) and general dental practitioners (GDPs) in Saudi Arabia and (2) to evaluate the knowledge level of the most appropriate treatment decisions for both groups with regard to caries in primary molars and its relation with demographic variables. Material and Methods A random sample of 600 GDPs and all registered PDs (n = 100) in the Saudi dental society in 2016 were emailed a two part questionnaire; the first part included questions about demographic data and the second part investigated knowledge of the participants of…

Effect of LASER therapy Vs conventional techniques on clinical and radiographic outcomes of deciduous molar pulpotomy : a systematic review and meta-…

2020

Background To systematically review the effectiveness primary molar pulpotomy based on the clinical and radiographic outcomes using lasers over the conventional therapies. Material and methods This systematic review and meta-analysis included Randomized or Quasi-randomized trials comparing LASER with conventional pulpotomy therapies (formocresol, ferric sulphate, MTA or calcium hydroxide) with atleast 6-month follow-up period was included. Risk of bias of included studies was assessed and metanalysis was done using RevMan software. Results Of the 1383 articles that were searched, only 14 studies were included for qualitative synthesis and 10 for meta- analysis. There was no statistically si…

Characterization of the land snail Ganula lanuginosa (Boissy, 1835) (Mollusca: Hygromiidae): new invader of the Iberian Peninsula.

2021

Recently, a well-established population of the hygromiid Ganula lanuginosa has been discovered in the Iberian Peninsula, specifically in Xàtiva (Province of Valencia, Spain), corresponding to the first record for the Iberian Peninsula and the Continental Europe. It is a land snail native to North Africa and also known from the European Mediterranean islands, namely the Balearic Islands (Spain), Sardinia (Italy) and Corsica (France). Morpho-anatomical studies of the shell and the reproductive system have been carried out, and these features have been compared with those of the most similar hygromiids, which has allowed us to correctly identify them. In addition, parasitological and ec…

Oenothera laciniata Hill (Onagraceae) en la Comunidad Valenciana

2012

Oenothera laciniata is reported for the first time in the Valencian Community (E of Spain), a report t…

Inferring the Relative Resilience of Alternative States

2013

Ecological systems may occur in alternative states that differ in ecological structures, functions and processes. Resilience is the measure of disturbance an ecological system can absorb before changing states. However, how the intrinsic structures and processes of systems that characterize their states affects their resilience remains unclear. We analyzed time series of phytoplankton communities at three sites in a floodplain in central Spain to assess the dominant frequencies or "temporal scales" in community dynamics and compared the patterns between a wet and a dry alternative state. The identified frequencies and cross-scale structures are expected to arise from positive feedbacks that…

Aula Virtual. Evolución del Hardware y Mejora de Resultados

2009

The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have led to the development of learning platforms to support teaching and learning activities. Nowadays most universities provide their academic community with some form of a learning manage ment system (LMS). To achieve the optimal use of such type of systems, they must integrate all their academic community and preexisting applications at its institutions. These complex objectives can be reached by using a robust architecture. In this paper, we expose the Universitat de Valencia particular case: The integrated LMS implementation, main functionalities, archi tecture base, and hardware four years evolution to better adequate to community …

So Many Variables: Joint Modeling in Community Ecology

2015

Technological advances have enabled a new class of multivariate models for ecology, with the potential now to specify a statistical model for abundances jointly across many taxa, to simultaneously explore interactions across taxa and the response of abundance to environmental variables. Joint models can be used for several purposes of interest to ecologists, including estimating patterns of residual correlation across taxa, ordination, multivariate inference about environmental effects and environment-by-trait interactions, accounting for missing predictors, and improving predictions in situations where one can leverage knowledge of some species to predict others. We demonstrate this by exa…
