About Compactness of Faddeev Integral Equations for Three Charged Particles

1999

Momentum space three-body integral equations of the Faddeev type can not be used for Coulomb-like potentials, for energies above the breakup threshold. The reason is the occurrence of singularities in their kernels which destroy the compactness properties known to exist for purely short-range interactions. Using the rigorously equivalent formulation in terms of an effective-two- body theory, we prove that the nondiagonal kernels occurring therein possess on and off the energy shell only integrable singularities, provided all three particles have charges of the same sign (ie., only repulsive Coulomb interactions). In contrast, if some of the charges have opposite signs the nondiagonal kernel…

A Function Algebra Providing New Mergelyan Type Theorems in Several Complex Variables

2019

For compact sets $K\subset \mathbb C^{d}$, we introduce a subalgebra $A_{D}(K)$ of $A(K)$, which allows us to obtain Mergelyan type theorems for products of planar compact sets as well as for graphs of functions.

Approximations of Parabolic Equations at the Vicinity of Hyperbolic Equilibrium Point

2014

This article is devoted to the numerical analysis of the abstract semilinear parabolic problem u′(t) = Au(t) + f(u(t)), u(0) = u 0, in a Banach space E. We are developing a general approach to establish a discrete dichotomy in a very general setting and prove shadowing theorems that compare solutions of the continuous problem with those of discrete approximations in space and time. In [3] the discretization in space was constructed under the assumption of compactness of the resolvent. It is a well-known fact (see [10, 11]) that the phase space in the neighborhood of the hyperbolic equilibrium can be split in a such way that the original initial value problem is reduced to initial value prob…

Nonlinear elliptic equations having a gradient term with natural growth

2006

Abstract In this paper, we study a class of nonlinear elliptic Dirichlet problems whose simplest model example is: (1) { − Δ p u = g ( u ) | ∇ u | p + f , in Ω , u = 0 , on ∂ Ω . Here Ω is a bounded open set in R N ( N ⩾ 2 ), Δ p denotes the so-called p-Laplace operator ( p > 1 ) and g is a continuous real function. Given f ∈ L m ( Ω ) ( m > 1 ), we study under which growth conditions on g problem (1) admits a solution. If m ⩾ N / p , we prove that there exists a solution under assumption (3) (see below), and that it is bounded when m > N p ; while if 1 m N / p and g satisfies the condition (4) below, we prove the existence of an unbounded generalized solution. Note that no smallness condit…

On the connectedness of the attainability set for lattice dynamical systems

2012

We prove the Kneser property (i.e. the connectedness and compactness of the attainability set at any time) for lattice dynamical systems in which we do not know whether the property of uniqueness of the Cauchy problem holds or not. Using this property, we can check that the global attractor of the multivalued semiflow generated by such system is connected.

Infinite games and chain conditions

2015

We apply the theory of infinite two-person games to two well-known problems in topology: Suslin's Problem and Arhangel'skii's problem on $G_\delta$ covers of compact spaces. More specifically, we prove results of which the following two are special cases: 1) every linearly ordered topological space satisfying the game-theoretic version of the countable chain condition is separable and 2) in every compact space satisfying the game-theoretic version of the weak Lindel\"of property, every cover by $G_\delta$ sets has a continuum-sized subcollection whose union is $G_\delta$-dense.

Semigroups of composition operators and integral operators in spaces of analytic functions

2013

We study the maximal spaces of strong continuity on BMOA and the Bloch space B for semigroups of composition operators. Characterizations are given for the cases when these maximal spaces are V MOA or the little Bloch B0. These characterizations are in terms of the weak compactness of the resolvent function or in terms of a specially chosen symbol g of an integral operator Tg. For the second characterization we prove and use an independent result, namely that the operators Tg are weakly compact on the above mentioned spaces if and only if they are compact.

Derived sets and inductive inference

1994

The paper deals with using topological concepts in studies of the Gold paradigm of inductive inference. They are — accumulation points, derived sets of order α (α — constructive ordinal) and compactness. Identifiability of a class U of total recursive functions with a bound α on the number of mindchanges implies \(U^{(\alpha + 1)} = \not 0\). This allows to construct counter-examples — recursively enumerable classes of functions showing the proper inclusion between identification types: EXα⊂EXα+1.

Vector-valued meromorphic functions

2002

A locally complete locally convex space E satisfies that every weakly meromorphic function defined on an open subset of \( \mathbb{C} \) with values in E is meromorphic if and only if E does not contain a countable product of copies of \( \mathbb{C} \). A characterization of locally complete spaces in the spirit of known characterizations of the (metric) convex compactness property is also given.

Convergence-theoretic characterizations of compactness

2002

AbstractFundamental variants of compactness are characterized in terms of concretely reflective convergence subcategories: topologies, pretopologies, paratopologies, hypotopologies and pseudotopologies. Hyperquotient maps (perfect, quasi-perfect, adherent and closed) and quotient maps (quotient, hereditarily quotient, countably biquotient, biquotient, and almost open) are characterized in terms of various degrees of compactness of their fiber relations, and of sundry relaxations of inverse continuity.
