Measurement of OZI rule violation and spin alignment inϕandωproduction at COMPASS
2012
The COMPASS collaboration at CERN dedicated the 2008 and 2009 run time to hadron spectroscopy measurements with emphasis on the mesonic sector. At 190 GeV/c beam momentum, diffractive and double-Reggeon/Pomeron production mechanisms contribute. Studying vector meson production allows to explore this relatively unknown transition domain. We present results on the ratio of production yields for p p → (1020) p p ϕ and p p → p p ω (782) and its xF dependence where we find an OZI rule violation in the order of a factor of 3. In addition, the spin alignment of ω and ϕ as a function of xF is investigated.
A highly integrated low-cost readout system for the COMPASS RICH-1 detector
2007
Particle identification at high multiplicities is a key feature of the COMPASS experiment at CERN's SPS. Hadrons up to 50 GeV/c are identified by a RICH detector with a large horizontal and vertical acceptance of plusmn250 mrad and plusmn180 mrad, respectively. The central region of the photon detector is equipped with multi-anode photomultiplier tubes, the remaining 75% of the total active area are covered by MWPCs with Csl photocathodes. In order to improve the performance of the detector at very high beam intensities, more than 62000 channels of a new analog readout system of the MWPCs, based on the APV25 chip, were developed and installed in 2006. The new system features good single pho…
Leading order determination of the gluon polarisation from DIS events with high-pThadron pairs
2013
We present a determination of the gluon polarisation Delta g/g in the nucleon, based on the longitudinal double-spin asymmetry of DIS events with Q(2) > 1 (GeV/c)(2) including a pair of large transverse-momentum hadrons in the final state. The data were obtained by the COMPASS experiment at CERN using a 160 GeV/c polarised muon beam scattering off a polarised (LiD)-Li-6 target. The gluon polarisation is evaluated by a Neural Network approach for three intervals of the gluon momentum fraction x(g) covering the range 0.04 < x(g) < 0.27. The values obtained at leading order in QCD do not show any significant dependence on x(g). Their average is Delta g/g = 0.125 +/- 0.060 (stat.) +/- 0.063 (sy…

Abstract Exclusive production of ω mesons was studied at the COMPASS experiment by scattering 160 GeV / c muons off transversely polarised protons. Five single-spin and three double-spin azimuthal asymmetries were measured in the range of photon virtuality 1 ( GeV / c ) 2 Q 2 10 ( GeV / c ) 2 , Bjorken scaling variable 0.003 x Bj 0.3 and transverse momentum squared of the ω meson 0.05 ( GeV / c ) 2 p T 2 0.5 ( GeV / c ) 2 . The measured asymmetries are sensitive to the nucleon helicity-flip Generalised Parton Distributions (GPD) E that are related to the orbital angular momentum of quarks, the chiral-odd GPDs H T that are related to the transversity Parton Distribution Functions, and the si…
Deeply virtual electroproduction of photons and mesons on the nucleon
1999
We give predictions for the leading order amplitudes for deeply virtual Compton scattering and hard meson electroproduction reactions at large Q^2 in the valence region in terms of skewed quark distributions. We give first estimates for the power corrections to these leading order amplitudes. In particular, we outline examples of experimental opportunities to access the skewed parton distributions at the current high-energy lepton facilities : JLab, HERMES and COMPASS.
Exclusive ω meson production at COMPASS
2016
Exclusive ω meson production is studied by the COMPASS Collaboration using the CERN 160 GeV/ c muon beam and a transversely polarised proton target. Single-spin and double-spin asymmetries are measured, some of which are sensitive to the Generalised Parton Distributions E that are related to quark orbital angular momenta. The results, which are sensitive also to the pion-pole contribution to the production mechanism, are compared to the predictions of a phenomenological model.
Final COMPASS results on the deuteron spin-dependent structure functiong1dand the Bjorken sum rule
2017
Final results are presented from the inclusive measurement of deep-inelastic polarised-muon scattering on longitudinally polarised deuterons using a 6 LiD target. The data were taken at 160 GeV beam energy and the results are shown for the kinematic range 1(GeV/c)2 4GeV/c2 in the mass of the hadronic final state. The deuteron double-spin asymmetry A1d and the deuteron longitudinal-spin structure function g1d are presented in bins of x and Q2 . Towards lowest accessible values of x , g1d decreases and becomes consistent with zero within uncertainties. The presented final g1d values together with the recently published final g1p values of COMPASS are used to again evaluate the Bjorken sum rul…
Antiproton over proton and K$^-$ over K$^+$ multiplicity ratios at high $z$ in DIS
2020
The $\bar{\rm p} $ over p multiplicity ratio is measured in deep-inelastic scattering for the first time using (anti-) protons carrying a large fraction of the virtual-photon energy, $z>0.5$. The data were obtained by the COMPASS Collaboration using a 160 GeV muon beam impinging on an isoscalar $^6$LiD target. The regime of deep-inelastic scattering is ensured by requiring $Q^2$ > 1 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ for the photon virtuality and $W > 5$ GeV/$c^2$ for the invariant mass of the produced hadronic system. The range in Bjorken-$x$ is restricted to $0.01 < x < 0.40$. Protons and antiprotons are identified in the momentum range $20 60$ GeV/$c$. In the whole studied $z$-region, the $\…
Textbook descriptions of people with psychosis – some ethical aspects
2018
Background:Textbooks are central for the education of professionals in the health field and a resource for practitioners already in the field. Objectives:This article focuses on how 12 textbooks in psychiatric nursing and psychiatry, published in Norway between 1877 and 2012, describe and present people with psychosis.Research design:We used qualitative content analysis.Ethical considerations:The topic is published textbooks, made available to be read by students, teachers and professionals, and no ethical approval was required.Findings:The analysis shows that all 12 textbooks describe and present people who are considered as psychotic from a ‘perspective from above’. In this perspective, th…
Results on longitudinal spin physics at COMPASS
2016
Abstract The COMPASS experiment at the CERN SPS has taken data for deep inelastic scattering of polarised muons off a polarised NH3 target in 2007 and 2011 and off a polarised 6LiD target in 2002–2004 and 2006. We present our new results on the longitudinal double spin asymmetry A 1 p and the spin-dependent structure function g 1 p obtained from the 2011 data set. These results are used in a NLO QCD fit to the world data to obtain the polarised parton distributions. Also an update on our results on the Bjorken sum rule, connecting the integral of the non-singlet spin-dependent structure function with the ratio of the weak coupling constants, is given. The gluon polarisation can be accessed …
