Abstract Measuring conductivity in aqueous solutions is a problem which is not easy to solve due to the differences in mass and mobility that exist between ions conduction and electrons. Additionally, it is necessary to keep in mind the interaction processes electrode-solution. As a consequence, the electrolytic conductivity cell has to be polarized with alternating voltage of adequate amplitude and frequency in order to extract the correct information. Half-metallic compensated ferrimagnetism with a tunable compensation point over a wide temperature range in the Mn-Fe-V-Al Heusler system

The cubic Heusler compound Mn1.5FeV0.5Al with the L21 Heusler structure is the first fully compensated half-metallic ferrimagnet with 24 valence electrons. The ferrimagnetic state can be tuned by changing the composition such that the compensation point appears at finite temperatures ranging from 0 K up to 226 K, while retaining half-metallicity in the system. In this paper, the structural, magnetic and transport properties of the Mn-Fe-V-Al system are discussed. Magnetic reversal and a change of sign of the anomalous Hall effect were observed at the compensation point, which gives rise to a sublattice spin-crossing. Sol-gel assisted molten-salt synthesis of novel single phase Y3–2xCa2xTaxAl5−xO12:1%Eu garnet structure phosphors

Strong absorption and emission are the key the features of any phosphor. The results obtained during this study demonstrate the difficulty of the incorporation of tantalum ions into the garnet structure and reveal that only the combination of Sol-Gel synthesis method together with Molten-Salt technique enable to obtain a single-phase cubic garnet structure. Note that, the Sol-Gel synthesis assisted by further processing by Molten-Salt technique can be a potentially new way of material preparation reported in literature. Abstract In this work, the unique optical properties of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), i.e. subwavelength confinement or strong electric field concentration, are exploited to demonstrate the propagation of light signal at 600 nm along distances in the range from 17 to 150 μm for Au nanostripes 500 nm down to 100 nm wide (30 nm of height), respectively, both theoretically and experimentally. A low power laser is coupled into an optical fiber tip that is used to locally excite the photoluminescence of colloidal quantum dots (QDs) dispersed in their surroundings. The development of electric mobility makes the charging systems one of the main discussed topic. Among the different technologies, Resonant Inductive Power Transfer (RIPT) systems are in deep study. Several aspects, including the choice of coils, the compensation network and the bifurcation phenomenon are necessary for a proper design of the system. In this paper an iterative method for bifurcation-free RIPT system design is provided as a valid solution to the need of accurate models requiring low computational efforts.

This paper considers the problem of the optimal setting of controllable variables in two-step processes with quality constraints. The optimal setting minimizes the cost and satisfies quality constraints defined for the final output. The main emphasis is given to processes where it is possible to make intermediate measurements after the first processing step and to utilize these measurements before the control variables in the second step are set. Most linear matrix inequality (LMI) fuzzy control results in literature are valid for any membership function, i.e., independent of the actual membership shape. Hence, they are conservative (with respect to other nonlinear control approaches) when specific knowledge of the shapes is available. This paper presents relaxed LMI conditions for fuzzy control that incorporate such shape information in the form of polynomial constraints, generalizing previous works by the authors. The Monitoring and Advisory Functions of Corporate Boards

The main objective of this chapter is to investigate the effects of advisory directors’ presence on the board’s overall effectiveness in value creation. To achieve this purpose, we first explore the channels through which this advisory measure influences firm value. Thus, the results suggest that the presence of at least one independent director principally committed to advising duties on the board leads to an increase in corporate innovation and a better acquisition performance. We then examine the effect of this measure on firm value.
