The object of the paper concerns a consistent formulation of the classical Signorini’s theory regarding the frictionless contact problem between two elastic bodies in the hypothesis of small displacements and strains. The employment of the symmetric Galerkin boundary element method, based on boundary discrete quantities, makes it possible to distinguish two different boundary types, one in contact as the zone of potential detachment, called the real boundary, the other detached as the zone of potential contact, called the virtual boundary. Antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) are likely involved in the pathogenesis of the antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). This study analyzes the structural and functional characteristics of a human monoclonal aPL (HL7G) from the IgG2 subtype with λ light chains generated from a patient with primary APS and recurrent cerebral microemboli. DNA encoding the variable region of heavy and light chains of the antibody was sequenced, analyzed, and compared to HL5B a previously described monoclonal aPL from the same patient. Abstract Intestinal T lymphocytes activated by antigen are suspected to play a key role in enterogenic spondyloarthropathies (SpA). Therefore, we aimed to identify and functionally characterize T-cell clones that are coexpanded in the intestinal mucosa and the synovium. Colon, peripheral blood, and synovium of a patient with enterogenic SpA were screened for clonal T-cell expansions by TCRB-CDR3 length analysis and sequencing. Antiphospholipid antibodies (APLs) might be involved in the pathogenesis of the antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). This study analyzes the structural characteristics of monoclonal APLs derived from patients with this disease. An Iterative Method for Pricing American Options Under Jump-Diffusion Models

We propose an iterative method for pricing American options under jump-diffusion models. A finite difference discretization is performed on the partial integro-differential equation, and the American option pricing problem is formulated as a linear complementarity problem (LCP). Jump-diffusion models include an integral term, which causes the resulting system to be dense. We propose an iteration to solve the LCPs efficiently and prove its convergence. Numerical examples with Kou's and Merton's jump-diffusion models show that the resulting iteration converges rapidly.
A Projected Algebraic Multigrid Method for Linear Complementarity Problems

We present an algebraic version of an iterative multigrid method for obstacle problems, called projected algebraic multigrid (PAMG) here. We show that classical AMG algorithms can easily be extended to deal with this kind of problem. This paves the way for efficient multigrid solution of obstacle problems with partial differential equations arising, for example, in financial engineering.

When students engage in rich mathematical modelling tasks, they have to handle real-world contexts and mathematics in chorus. This is not easy. In this chapter, contexts and mathematics are perceived as complementary, which means they can be integrated. Based on four types of approaches to modelling tasks (ambivalent, reality bound, mathematics bound or integrating), we used task-based interviews to study the development of students’ approaches while the students moved from grade 11 to 12.
