Comparing Spatial and Spatio-temporal FPCA to Impute Large Continuous Gaps in Space

2018

Multivariate spatio-temporal data analysis methods usually assume fairly complete data, while a number of gaps often occur along time or in space. In air quality data long gaps may be due to instrument malfunctions; moreover, not all the pollutants of interest are measured in all the monitoring stations of a network. In literature, many statistical methods have been proposed for imputing short sequences of missing values, but most of them are not valid when the fraction of missing values is high. Furthermore, the limitation of the methods commonly used consists in exploiting temporal only, or spatial only, correlation of the data. The objective of this paper is to provide an approach based …

An Approach to the Concept of Soft Fuzzy Proximity

2014

The purpose of this paper is to introduce the concept of soft fuzzy proximity. Firstly, we give the definitions of soft fuzzy proximity and Katsaras soft fuzzy proximity, and also we investigate the relations between the soft fuzzy proximity and slightly modified version of Katsaras soft fuzzy proximity. Secondly, we induce a soft fuzzy topology from a given soft fuzzy proximity by using soft fuzzy closure operator. Then, we obtain the initial soft fuzzy proximity from a given family of soft fuzzy proximities. So, we describe products in the category of soft fuzzy proximities. Finally, we show that a family of all soft fuzzy proximities on a given set constitutes a complete lattice.

Edelstein-Suzuki-type resuls for self-mappings in various abstract spaces with application to functional equations

2016

Abstract The fixed point theory provides a sound basis for studying many problems in pure and applied sciences. In this paper, we use the notions of sequential compactness and completeness to prove Eldeisten-Suzuki-type fixed point results for self-mappings in various abstract spaces. We apply our results to get a bounded solution of a functional equation arising in dynamic programming.

The Joint Censored Gaussian Graphical Lasso Model

2022

The Gaussian graphical model is one of the most used tools for inferring genetic networks. Nowadays, the data are often collected from different sources or under different biological conditions, resulting in heterogeneous datasets that exhibit a dependency structure that varies across groups. The complex structure of these data is typically recovered using regularized inferential procedures that use two penalties, one that encourages sparsity within each graph and the other that encourages common structures among the different groups. To this date, these approaches have not been developed for handling the case of censored data. However, these data are often generated by gene expression tech…

Piwi proteins and piRNAs in mammalian oocytes and early embryos: From sample to sequence

2015

AbstractThe role of the Piwi/piRNA pathway during mammalian oogenesis has remained enigmatic thus far, especially since experiments with Piwi knockout mice did not reveal any phenotypic defects in female individuals. This is in striking contrast with results obtained from other species including flies and zebrafish. In mouse oocytes, however, only low levels of piRNAs are found and they are not required for their function. We recently demonstrated dynamic expression of PIWIL1, PIWIL2, and PIWIL3 during mammalian oogenesis and early embryogenesis. In addition, small RNA analysis of human, crab-eating macaque and cattle revealed that piRNAs are also expressed in the female germline and closel…

Potencialidades de Google Maps en la investigación social aplicada

2019

In recent years, Google has devoted resources to build a complete map of the world. They constantly scan the territory, collecting a large amount of data that provides updated and complete geographic information. This allows us to have an interoperable map that provides the end user with a search tool, not only of routes but also of shops, equipment and any type of geo-referenced information. In addition, Google Maps provides a series of Application Programming Interface (API), which provides a library of set of subroutines, functions and procedures (in object-oriented programming) that can be used by other software to automate the extraction of information of the Google platform. Predicting bond betas using macro-finance variables

2019

We conduct in-sample and out-of-sample forecasting using the new approach of combining explanatory variables through complete subset regressions (CSR). We predict bond CAPM betas and bond returns conditioning on various macro-finance variables. We explore differences across long-term government bonds, investment grade corporate bonds, and high-yield corporate bonds. The CSR method performs well in predicting bond betas, especially in-sample, and, mainly high-yield bond betas when the focus is out-of-sample. Bond returns are less predictable than bond betas.

Tinea imbricata in Papua-Neuguinea: Behandlungsversuch mit Griseofulvin und Haloprogin bei einer Population des Gogol-Valley, Madang Province

2009

Behand-lungswoche an. Rezidive traten jedoch schon 1 Woche nach Therapieende auf. Es konnten Unterschiede in der Altersverteilung der Erkrankten in beiden Dorfern festgestellt wer…

Rational normal curves and Hadamard products

2021

AbstractGiven $$r>n$$ r > n general hyperplanes in $$\mathbb P^n,$$ P n , a star configuration of points is the set of all the n-wise intersection of the hyperplanes. We introduce contact star configurations, which are star configurations where all the hyperplanes are osculating to the same rational normal curve. In this paper, we find a relation between this construction and Hadamard products of linear varieties. Moreover, we study the union of contact star configurations on a same conic in $$\mathbb P^2$$ P 2 , we prove that the union of two contact star configurations has a special h-vector and, in some cases, this is a complete intersection.

Cardiac pacing in premature infants and neonates: steroid eluting leads and automatic output adaptation

1999

Abstract Background . Appropriate generator and lead selection as well as techniques of implantation are most important aspects of cardiac pacing in the extremely young patient. Here we report the clinical results using a new technique with automatic output adaptation based on evoked response in combination with steroid-eluting epicardial leads in small children. Methods . One neonate and 2 premature infants underwent permanent pacemaker implantation because of congenital high-degree atrioventricular block or postoperative complete heart block, respectively. Steroid-eluting epicardial leads and a multiprogrammable pacemaker with automatic output adaptation were used. Results . Intermuscular…
