Comparison of the retention strengths of three complete denture adhesives: An in vivo study

2009

One of the main problems posed by complete dentures is retention and stability. In order to solve this problem, dentists and the dental industry for a long time have attempted to improve denture adhesion by developing a range of "glues" of highly varied composition and efficacy. The present in vivo clinical study evaluates whether the adhesives used to improve complete denture retention are truly effective and able to increase denture adhesion to the mucosa covering the edentulous alveolar ridge.of the mandibular dentures. An in vivo clinical study is made of 30 patients with complete mandibular dentures to evaluate the retention afforded by three commercial complete denture adhesives (Benf…

Diagnosis and management of AML in adults: 2017 ELN recommendations from an international expert panel

2017

Abstract The first edition of the European LeukemiaNet (ELN) recommendations for diagnosis and management of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in adults, published in 2010, has found broad acceptance by physicians and investigators caring for patients with AML. Recent advances, for example, in the discovery of the genomic landscape of the disease, in the development of assays for genetic testing and for detecting minimal residual disease (MRD), as well as in the development of novel antileukemic agents, prompted an international panel to provide updated evidence- and expert opinion-based recommendations. The recommendations include a revised version of the ELN genetic categories, a proposal for …

Primary multifocal anaplastic large cell lymphoma with eyelid involvement: a case report

2019

ABSTRACT Ocular adnexal involvement in CD30+ lymphoproliferative disorders is rare. We report the case of a 73-year-old woman with a relapsing primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma on her eyelid. A systemic extension study excluded extracutaneous involvement. Systemic chemotherapy resulted in an optimal response, with complete regression of the cutaneous lesions. There has been no recurrence during the 2 years of follow-up. RESUMO O acometimento ocular adicional nos distúrbios linfoproliferativos CD30+ é raro. Relatamos o caso de uma mulher de 73 anos com linfoma de grandes células anaplásicas primárias recidivantes em sua pálpebra. A avaliação sistêmica excluiu envolvimento extr…

Realism, metamathematics, and the unpublished essays

1995

This initial chapter is divided into two sections. The first is devoted to a brief exposition of the intuitive essence and the philosophical motivation of Godel’s main metamathematical results, namely his completeness theorem for elementary logic (1930) and his incompleteness theorems for arithmetic (1931). Thereafter some discussion of the different ways to confront the relationship between those results and Godel’s philosophical realism in logic and mathematics is offered. Thus, mathematical realism will be successively regarded as (i) a philosophical consequence of those results; (ii) a heuristic principle which leads to them; (iii) a philosophical hypothesis which is “verified” by them.…

The bi-Hamiltonian theory of the Harry Dym equation

2002

We describe how the Harry Dym equation fits into the the bi-Hamiltonian formalism for the Korteweg-de Vries equation and other soliton equations. This is achieved using a certain Poisson pencil constructed from two compatible Poisson structures. We obtain an analogue of the Kadomtsev-Petviashivili hierarchy whose reduction leads to the Harry Dym hierarchy. We call such a system the HD-KP hierarchy. We then construct an infinite system of ordinary differential equations (in infinitely many variables) that is equivalent to the HD-KP hierarchy. Its role is analogous to the role of the Central System in the Kadomtsev-Petviashivili hierarchy.

Accurate ab initio density fitting for multiconfigurational self-consistent field methods

2008

Using Cholesky decomposition and density fitting to approximate the electron repulsion integrals, an implementation of the complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) method suitable for large-scale applications is presented. Sample calculations on benzene, diaquo-tetra- μ -acetato-dicopper(II), and diuraniumendofullerene demonstrate that the Cholesky and density fitting approximations allow larger basis sets and larger systems to be treated at the CASSCF level of theory with controllable accuracy. While strict error control is an inherent property of the Cholesky approximation, errors arising from the density fitting approach are managed by using a recently proposed class of auxi…

Strong Quantum Solutions in Conflicting Interest Bayesian Games

2017

Quantum entanglement has been recently demonstrated as a useful resource in conflicting-interest games of incomplete information between two players, Alice and Bob [Pappa et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 114, 020401 (2015)]. The general setting for such games is that of correlated strategies where the correlation between competing players is established through a trusted common adviser; however, players need not reveal their input to the adviser. So far, the quantum advantage in such games has been revealed in a restricted sense. Given a quantum correlated equilibrium strategy, one of the players can still receive a higher than quantum average payoff with some classically correlated equilibrium str…

Determination of Reference Values for NIST SRM 610-617 Glasses Following ISO Guidelines

2011

We present new reference values for the NIST SRM 610–617 glasses following ISO guidelines and the International Association of Geoanalysts’ protocol. Uncertainties at the 95% confidence level (CL) have been determined for bulk- and micro-analytical purposes. In contrast to former compilation procedures, this approach delivers data that consider present-day requirements of data quality. New analytical data and the nearly complete data set of the GeoReM database were used for this study. Data quality was checked by the application of the Horwitz function and by a careful investigation of analytical procedures. We have determined quantitatively possible element inhomogeneities using different …

Size-consistent self-consistent configuration interaction from a complete active space : Excited states

1998

The self-consistent size consistent on a complete active space singly and doubly configuration interaction (SC)2CAS-SDCI method is applied to excited states. The (SC)2 correction is performed on a closed shell state, and the excited states are obtained by diagonalization of the dressed matrix. A theoretical justification of the transferability of the improvement concerning the dressing state to all roots of the matrix is presented. The method is tested by three tests on the spectrum of small molecules. sanchezm@uv.es ; nebot@uv.es
