CFD Predictions of Sufficient Suspension Conditions in Solid-Liquid Agitated Tanks

2012

Abstract Most research efforts on mechanically agitated solid-liquid contactors have been devoted to the assessment of the minimum impeller speed for complete off-bottom suspension, N js . Actually, many industrial vessels are operated at impeller speeds slightly lower than N js (Oldshue, 1983; Rieger et al., 1988). This suggests that the sufficient suspension condition, which is quantitatively specified in this paper by introducing a suitably defined quantity N ss , may represent a valid alternative to that of complete suspension. In the present work time-dependent RANS simulations were carried out with the aim of predicting the achievement of sufficient suspension conditions. The Eulerian…

Commento all'art. 421-bis c.p.p.

2008

Taxidermal Preparations of an Extinct Sicilian Wolf Population (Canis lupus Linnaeus, 1758): Biological Studies and Restoration

2022

In last decades, biotechnologies have enabled a deep development of knowledge in all fields of life sciences, allowing the collection of a wide range of data. Furthermore, the relationship between scientific investigations and conservation actions of cultural heritage is increasingly consolidated and now it is one of the peculiar points both for sustainable restoration and use of the cultural asset, also evaluating the cultural assets as source of biological information. In this study, Sicilian wolf (Canis lupus) specimens conserved in Sicilian Natural Museums, become a source of biological information on Sicilian biodiversity, establishing specific conservative protocol developed cooperati…

A fixed point theorem for (varphi,L)-weak contraction mappings on a partial metric space

2014

In this paper, we explore (varphi,L)-weak contractions of Berinde by obtaining Suzuki-type fixed point results. Thus, we obtain generalized fixed point results for Kannan's, Chatterjea's and Zamfirescu's mappings on a 0-complete partial metric space. In this way we obtain very general fixed point theorems that extend and generalize several related results from the literature.

Candida pararugosa isolation from the oral cavity of an Italian denture wearer

2004

Candida pararugosa was first isolated from human feces, but after the initial description no further recovery from humans has been reported. During a study on oral Candida colonization in denture wearers living in Palermo (Italy), we isolated C. pararugosa from a 61-year-old woman without signs of oral candidosis. This constitutes, to the authors' knowledge, the first isolation of C. pararugosa from the oral cavity. After six months, colonization by C. pararugosa persisted, suggesting that this species could be a component of the normal oral microbiota. The identification procedure we used could be useful in elucidating the epidemiology of C. pararugosa and for establishing its clinical sig…

Complete renovisceral debranching and EVAR for thoracoabdominal aneurysm

2011

Open graft repair of thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAA) is an incredibly complex and challenging procedure with acceptable results achieved only by a few centers worldwide. Contemporary outcome analysis of TAAA repair performed in the United States showed greater operative mortality and morbidity rates than commonly reported. Moreover, a recent European long-term follow-up study showed that survival remains suboptimal, especially in the early years after TAAA repair. Complete renovisceral debranching combined with EVAR offers many advantages in regard to open surgical repair with comparable or better results, especially in the high-risk patient. Although this hybrid procedure will not…

Complete sequence, expression and evolution of two members of the hexamerin protein family during the larval development of the rice moth, Corcyra ce…

2002

Three distinct types of storage hexamerins are expressed in the "last-instar" larvae of the rice moth, Corcyra cephalonica. A cDNA expression library was constructed from fat body-RNA and screened with a polyclonal antibody raised against purified hexamerin (SP2) of Corcyra cephalonica. Two slightly different "full-length" hexamerin cDNA clones (Hex2a and Hex2b) were isolated and sequenced. Both include open reading frames of 2109 bp which are translated into polypeptides of 703 amino acids with 92.5% identity. Signal peptides of 19 amino acids are present at the N-termini. The 684 amino acids native proteins have a high content of aryl groups (17.6%). According to both the criteria for ami…
