On some recent investigations of probability in group theory

2010

We describe some recent contributions on the probability of commuting pairs, introduced by P. Erdos, W. Gustafson and P. Turan around 1968 and 1973. Both combinatorial methods and character theory have significant application in this context and we illustrate some standard techniques and strategies, once generalizations of the probability of commuting pairs want to be studied. The importance of the subject is emphasized in some remarks and open questions, which reformulate some classical conjectures in group theory via a probabilistic approach.

Transporter (TAP)- and proteasome-independent presentation of a melanoma-associated tyrosinase epitope.

2000

The melanosomal protein tyrosinase is considered as a target of specific immunotherapy against melanoma. Two tyrosinase-derived peptides are presented in association with HLA-A2.1 [Wolfel et al., Eur. J. Immunol., 24, 759-764 (1994)]. Peptide 1-9 (MLLAVLYCL) is generated from the putative signal sequence. The internal peptide 369-377 is posttranslationally converted at residue 371, and its presentation is dependent on functional TAP transporters and proteasomes [Mosse et al., J. exp. Med.187, 37-48 (1998)]. Herein, we report on the processing and transport requirements for the signal sequence-derived peptide 1-9 that were studied in parallel to those for peptide 369-377. After infection of …

Reactivity of antitumor coinage metal-based N-heterocyclic carbene complexes with cysteine and selenocysteine protein sites

2021

Abstract The reaction of the antitumor M(I)-bis-N-heterocyclic carbene (M(I)-NHC) complexes, M = Cu, Ag, and Au, with their potential protein binding sites, i.e. cysteine and selenocysteine, was investigated by means of density functional theory approaches. Capped cysteine and selenocysteine were employed to better model the corresponding residues environment within peptide structures. By assuming the neutral or deprotonated form of the side chains of these amino acids and by considering the possible assistance of an external proton donor such as an adjacent acidic residue or the acidic component of the surrounding buffer environment, we devised five possible routes leading to the binding o…

Catalytic Functionalization of Methane and Light Alkanes in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide

2014

International audience; The development of catalytic methods for the effective functionalization of methane yet remains a challenge. The best system known to date is the so-called Catalytica Process based on the use of platinum catalysts to convert methane into methyl bisulfate with a TOF rate of 10−3 s. In this contribution, we report a series of silver complexes containing perfluorinated tris(indazolyl)borate ligands that catalyze the functionalization of methane into ethyl propionate upon reaction with ethyl diazoacetate (EDA) by using supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) as the reaction medium. The employment of this reaction medium has also allowed the functionalization of ethane, prop…

Monolacunary Keggin polyoxometalates connected to ten 4d or 4f metal atoms.

2013

The rational self-assembly of mono-lacunary Keggin clusters with 4d and 4f metal salts via a conventional method has yielded two novel polyoxometalate-based 4d-4f heterometallic compounds containing lacunary Keggin anions connected to ten metal atoms: {[Ag{Ag2(H2O)4}{Ln(H2O)6}2H ⊂ {SiW11Ln(H2O)4O39}2]·nH2O (Ln = Ce and n = 7 for 1, Ln = Pr and n = 3 for 2). Their structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and further characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra, and thermogravimetric (TG) analyses. A structural feature in 1 and 2 is that each [SiW11O39](8-) cluster (SiW11) is connected to ten metals (five Ag(+) and five Ln(3+) cations), representing the highe…

Reinvestigation of the Pd-catalysed bis(silylation) of alkynes with 1,1,2,2-tetramethyl-1,2-bis(phenylthiomethyl)disilane: Unexpected formation of th…

2013

International audience; The bis(silylated) alkenes Z-(PhSCH2)Me2SiC(H)=C(Fc)SiMe2(CH2SPh) (2) and Z-(PhSCH2)Me2SiC(H)=C(bipheny)SiMe2(CH2SPh) (3) have been prepared by Pd-catalysed double silylation of ethynylferrocene and 4-ethynyl-1,1'-biphenyl in the presence of 1,1,2,2-tetramethyl-1,2-bis(phenylthiomethyl)disilane (1). A reinvestigation on the interaction of 1 with [PdCl2(PhCN)2] in technical-grade CH2Cl2 as solvent revealed competition between reduction to elemental palladium (due to oxidative addition of the Si-Si bond across Pd(II) and subsequent reductive elimination) and formation of an unusual eight-membered chelate complex cis-[PdCl2{(PhSCH2SiMe2)2O}] (4), which is fluxional in s…

Advances in the investigation of dioxouranium(VI) complexes of interest for natural fluids

2012

Abstract The interactions of dioxouranium(VI) cation with different organic and inorganic ligands of environmental and biological interest were carefully examined with the aim to draw a chemical speciation picture of this ion in natural aquatic ecosystems and in biological fluids. Since UO22+ ion shows a significant tendency to hydrolyze, particular attention was paid in considering the hydrolysis species formation both in the presence and in absence of ligands. The results reported in the literature show that formation of the hydrolytic species assumes a great importance in the complexation models for all the UO22+-ligand systems considered. In particular, the following ligands have been t…

Interaction of UO2(2+) with ATP in aqueous ionic media.

2005

Interaction of dioxouranium(VI) (uranyl) ion with ATP was studied by ligand/proton and metal/hydroxide displacement technique, at very low ionic strength and at I=0.15 mol L(-1), in aqueous Me4NCl and NaCl solutions, at t=25 degrees C. Measurements were carried out in the pH range 3-8.5, before the formation of precipitate. Computer analysis allowed us to find the quite stable species UO2(ATP)H2(0), UO2(ATP)H-, UO2(ATP)2-, UO2(ATP)2(6-), UO2(ATP)2H2(4-) and UO2(ATP)(OH)3- whose formation constants are (at I=0 mol L(-1)) logbeta(112)=18.21, logbeta(111)=14.70, logbeta(110)=9.14, logbeta(120)=12.84, logbeta(122)=24.82, and logbeta(11-1)=2.09, respectively. Different values were obtained in th…

Theoretical investigations of the IR spectroscopy of Ni(C(2)S(2)H(2))(2). A case study of the P_VMWCI(2) algorithm including anharmonic effects.

2010

The near infrared (NIR) spectra of bis(ethylene-1,2-dithiolato)nickel, Ni(C(2)S(2)H(2))(2) are fully interpreted here by applying a method developed for efficient automatic computation of both the infrared wave numbers and the intensities. The employed procedure uses parallel variational multiple window configuration interaction wave functions, the so-named P_VMWCI(2) algorithm, which incorporates both the mechanical and the electric anharmonic effects. It is shown that inclusion of anharmonicities is crucial for correctly assigning the fundamental, combination, and overtone vibrational frequencies in the infrared spectrum of the target system, for which conflicting assignments are found in…
