Abstract. Friction stir consolidation (FSC) is a solid-state recycling method that directly converts machining scraps into semifinished billets. This process has been proven to be a more energy efficient and environmentally friendly technique compared to remelting based conventional recycling methods. During FSC, machining chips are transformed into a solid billet by the stirring action and friction heat of the rotating tool. Due to process mechanics, especially temperature gradient and strain rate, billets have shown different hardness values and grain size distribution across their sections. Application of the Dang‐Van criterion for life determination under uniaxial random tension–compression with different mean values

In this paper the experimental fatigue lives of specimens made of 10HNAP steel with the lives calculated with the Goodman and Gerber methods of cycle amplitude transformation and the Dang Van criterion for uniaxial loading are compared. Cycles were counted with the rain flow algorithm and damage was accumulated according to the Palmgren-Miner hypothesis. This paper includes comparison of the results for constant amplitude loading with a non-zero mean value and for random loading with zero or non-zero mean values. It has been shown that for 10HNAP steel the algorithm of fatigue life calculations using the Dang Van criterion gives satisfactory results.
Computing oscillatory solutions of the Euler system via 𝒦-convergence

We develop a method to compute effectively the Young measures associated to sequences of numerical solutions of the compressible Euler system. Our approach is based on the concept of [Formula: see text]-convergence adapted to sequences of parameterized measures. The convergence is strong in space and time (a.e. pointwise or in certain [Formula: see text] spaces) whereas the measures converge narrowly or in the Wasserstein distance to the corresponding limit.

In many applicative scenarios it is important to derive information about the topology and the internal connections of more dynamical systems interacting together. Examples can be found in fields as diverse as Economics, Neuroscience and Biochemistry. The paper deals with the problem of deriving a descriptive model of a network, collecting the node outputs as time series with no use of a priori insight on the topology. We cast the problem as the optimization of a cost function operating a trade-off between accuracy and complexity in the final model. The molecular compressibility, which is a macroscopic quantity to reveal the microcompressibility by additivity of molecular constitutions, is considered as a fixed value for specific organic liquids. In this study, we introduced two calculated expressions of molecular adiabatic compressibility to demonstrate its pressure and temperature dependency. In order to unravel the tectonic evolution of the north-central sector of the Sicily Channel (Central Mediterranean), a seismo-stratigraphic analysis of single- and multi-channel seismic reflection profiles has been carried out. This allowed to identify, between 20 and 50 km offshore the central-southern coast of Sicily, a ~80-km-long deformation belt, characterized by a set of WNW–ESE to NW–SE fault segments showing a poly-phasic activity.
