Convergence of a high-order compact finite difference scheme for a nonlinear Black–Scholes equation

A high-order compact finite difference scheme for a fully nonlinear parabolic differential equation is analyzed. The equation arises in the modeling of option prices in financial markets with transaction costs. It is shown that the finite difference solution converges locally uniformly to the unique viscosity solution of the continuous equation. The proof is based on a careful study of the discretization matrices and on an abstract convergence result due to Barles and Souganides.

Abstract In this paper, we construct analytical approximate solutions of initial value problems for the matrix differential equation X ′( t ) = A ( t ) X ( t ) + X ( t ) B ( t ) + L ( t ), with twice continuously differentiable functions A ( t ), B ( t ), and L ( t ), continuous. We determine, in terms of the data, the existence interval of the problem. Given an admissible error e, we construct an approximate solution whose error is smaller than e uniformly, in all the domain.
Electrostatic backscattering by insulating obstacles

AbstractWe introduce and analyze backscattering data for a three-dimensional obstacle problem in electrostatics. In particular, we investigate the asymptotic behavior of these data as (i) the measurement point goes to infinity and (ii) the obstacles shrink to individual points. We also provide numerical simulations of these data.

Abstract The 3D computer simulations presented here were developed to study at the mesoscopic scale the formation of junctions and their impact on hardening of crystals. The simulations consider the evolution of a dislocation interacting with immobile dislocations in a fcc single crystal of copper where we incorporate well known dislocation interaction mechanisms. From these studies, we deduced a `breaking angle' which characterize the strength of the junctions.
Locally weighted minimum contrast estimation for spatio-temporal log-Gaussian Cox processes

A local version of spatio-temporal log-Gaussian Cox processes is proposed by using Local Indicators of Spatio-Temporal Association (LISTA) functions plugged into the minimum contrast procedure, to obtain space as well as time-varying parameters. The new procedure resorts to the joint minimum contrast fitting method to estimate the set of second-order parameters. This approach has the advantage of being suitable in both separable and non-separable parametric specifications of the correlation function of the underlying Gaussian Random Field. Computational study on hydrolysis of cefotaxime in gas phase and in aqueous solution

We are presenting a theoretical study of the hydrolysis of a β-lactam antibiotic in gas phase and in aqueous solution by means of hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics potentials. After exploring the potential energy surfaces at semiempirical and density functional theory (DFT) level, potentials of mean force have been computed for the reaction in solution with hybrid PM3/TIP3P calculations and corrections with the B3LYP and M06-2X functionals.
