Using Discharge Abstracts to Evaluate a Regional Perinatal Network: Assessment of the Linkage Procedure of Anonymous Data

2008

To assess the Burgundy perinatal network (18 obstetrical units; 18 500 births per year), discharge abstracts and additional data were collected for all mothers and newborns. In accordance with French law, data were rendered anonymous before statistical analysis, and were linked to patients using a specific procedure. This procedure allowed data concerning each mother to be linked to those for her newborn(s). This study showed that all mothers and newborns were included in the regional database; the data for all mothers were linked to those for their infant(s) in all cases. Additional data (gestational age) were obtained for 99.9% of newborns.

Performance evaluation of different techniques to estimate subjective quality in live video streaming applications over LTE-Advance mobile networks

2018

Abstract Current mobile service providers are offering Gigabit Internet access over LTE-Advanced networks. Traditional services, such as live video streaming, over wired networks are feasible on these networks. However different aspects should be taken into account due to the fast changing network conditions as well as the constrained resources of the mobile phones, in order to provide a good subjective video quality in terms of Mean Opinion Score (MOS). Our goal is to estimate and predict this subjective metric without information or reference from the original video, known as Non Reference approach. This approach is important for the Service Provider from a practical point of view, becaus…

Robust L1 fixed-order filtering for switched LPV systems with parameter-dependent delays

2015

Abstract This paper is concerned with the L1 fixed-order filtering problem for a class of switched linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems in which the system matrices and the time delays are dependent on the real-time measured parameters. The authors׳ attention is concentrated on designing the fixed-order filter that guarantees the filtering error system to be exponentially stable and to satisfy a prescribed L1 disturbance attenuation level with respect to all amplitude-bounded disturbances. Based on the switching logic with the minimum average dwell time (ADT), the delay-dependent L1 performance criterion for the switched LPV systems is first established. As there exists coupling between a…

On stability and stabilization of singular uncertain Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy systems

2014

This paper deals with the problem of robust stability and robust stabilization for a class of continuous-time singular Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy systems. Sufficient conditions on stability and stabilization are proposed in terms of strict LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality) for uncertain T-S fuzzy models. In order to reduce the conservatism of results developed using quadratic method, an approach based on non-quadratic Lyapunov functions and S-procedure is proposed. Illustrative examples are given to show the effectiveness of the given results Refereed/Peer-reviewed

Observer-based H∞ control on stochastic nonlinear systems with time-delay and actuator nonlinearity

2013

Abstract In this paper, an observer-based H ∞ controller is designed for a class of extended Markov jump systems subject to time-delay and actuator saturation nonlinearity. Gradient linearization procedure is employed to describe such nonlinear systems by several linear Markov jump systems. Next, a mode-dependent Lyapunov function is constructed for these linear systems, and a sufficient condition is derived to make them stochastically stable, and then, a continuous gain-scheduled approach is applied to design a continuous nonlinear observer-based controller on the entire extended nonlinear jump system. A simulation example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of developed techniques.

Adaptive output feedback neural network control of uncertain non-affine systems with unknown control direction

2014

Abstract This paper deals with the problem of adaptive output feedback neural network controller design for a SISO non-affine nonlinear system. Since in practice all system states are not available in output measurement, an observer is designed to estimate these states. In comparison with the existing approaches, the current method does not require any information about the sign of control gain. In order to handle the unknown sign of the control direction, the Nussbaum-type function is utilized. In order to approximate the unknown nonlinear function, neural network is firstly exploited, and then to compensate the approximation error and external disturbance a robustifying term is employed. …

Semantic Word Error Rate for Sentence Similarity

2016

Sentence similarity measures have applications in several tasks, including: Machine Translation, Paraphrase Iden- tification, Speech Recognition, Question-answering and Text Summarization. However, measures designed for these tasks are aimed at assessing equivalence rather than resemblance, partly departing from human cognition of similarity. While this is reasonable for these activities, it hinders the applicability of sentence similarity measures to other tasks. We therefore propose a new sentence similarity measure specifically designed for resemblance evaluation, in order to cover these fields better. Experimental results are discussed.

Monolingual and cross-lingual intent detection without training data in target languages

2021

Due to recent DNN advancements, many NLP problems can be effectively solved using transformer-based models and supervised data. Unfortunately, such data is not available in some languages. This research is based on assumptions that (1) training data can be obtained by the machine translating it from another language

BENEFITS OF MULTI-DOMAIN FEATURE OF MISMATCH NEGATIVITY EXTRACTED BY NON-NEGATIVE TENSOR FACTORIZATION FROM EEG COLLECTED BY LOW-DENSITY ARRAY

2012

Through exploiting temporal, spectral, time-frequency representations, and spatial properties of mismatch negativity (MMN) simultaneously, this study extracts a multi-domain feature of MMN mainly using non-negative tensor factorization. In our experiment, the peak amplitude of MMN between children with reading disability and children with attention deficit was not significantly different, whereas the new feature of MMN significantly discriminated the two groups of children. This is because the feature was derived from multi-domain information with significant reduction of the heterogeneous effect of datasets.

Message-driven factors influencing opening and forwarding of mobile advertising messages

2015

This work aims to analyse the influence of message-driven factors -informativeness, ubiquity, frequency and personalization- on consumer attitude and behaviour -opening and forwarding- towards mobile advertising messages. A theoretical model was developed and empirically tested using a sample of 355 Spanish teenager mobile users. Findings show that frequency is the dimension accounting the most -and significantly- of the four message-driven factors analysed on attitude toward mobile advertising. Attitude has a significant effect on acceptance of mobile advertising messages. Message-driven factors – in a direct way and indirectly through attitude toward mobile - lead to consumer opening and …
