Wireless Power Transmission for house appliances: A small-scale resonant coupling prototype
2016
This paper presents a low cost prototype of wireless power transfer system based on resonant coupling. The system here proposed can be useful for house appliances battery charging systems: as a matter of fact, it consists mainly of two copper wire coils or windings, placed one in front of the other on the same axis. By exploiting the coils resonance coupling effect, electric energy can be transferred from the inductor coil to the receiver in order to charge the batteries. Low cost experimental tests demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed wireless power transfer prototype, being it capable to reach an efficiency of about 80% and more along a distance of 30 cm.
BED: A new dataset for EEG-based biometrics
2021
Various recent research works have focused on the use of electroencephalography (EEG) signals in the field of biometrics. However, advances in this area have somehow been limited by the absence of a common testbed that would make it possible to easily compare the performance of different proposals. In this work, we present a data set that has been specifically designed to allow researchers to attempt new biometric approaches that use EEG signals captured by using relatively inexpensive consumer-grade devices. The proposed data set has been made publicly accessible and can be downloaded from https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4309471 . It contains EEG recordings and responses from 21 individuals…

Iterative sparse matrix-vector multiplication for accelerating the block Wiedemann algorithm over GF(2) on multi-graphics processing unit systems
2012
SUMMARY The block Wiedemann (BW) algorithm is frequently used to solve sparse linear systems over GF(2). Iterative sparse matrix–vector multiplication is the most time-consuming operation. The necessity to accelerate this step is motivated by the application of BW to very large matrices used in the linear algebra step of the number field sieve (NFS) for integer factorization. In this paper, we derive an efficient CUDA implementation of this operation by using a newly designed hybrid sparse matrix format. This leads to speedups between 4 and 8 on a single graphics processing unit (GPU) for a number of tested NFS matrices compared with an optimized multicore implementation. We further present…
Exact Closed-Form Expressions for the Distribution, the Level-Crossing Rate, and the Average Duration of Fades of the Capacity of OSTBC-MIMO Channels
2009
Article from the journal: IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology Official site: http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/TVT.2008.927038 This paper deals with some important statistical properties of the channel capacity of multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems with orthogonal space-time block code (OSTBC) transmission. We assume that all the subchannels are uncorrelated. For OSTBC-MIMO systems, exact closed-form expressions are derived for the probability density function (PDF), the cumulative distribution function (CDF), the level-crossing rate (LCR), and the average duration of fades (ADF) of the channel capacity. Furthermore, it will be shown that these exact closed-form expressions can be …
Channel Estimation and Interference Cancellation for MIMO-OFDM Systems
2007
This paper proposes a new channel estimation method and a new interference cancellation scheme for multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems in the presence of intersymbol interference (IS1). The proposed channel estimation method uses special training sequences (TSs) to have a desirable crest-factor of the transmitted training signal, and to prevent the influence of ISI on the channel estimation performance. By using the recommended training sequences, the ill-conditioned problem of the least square (LS) filter integrated in the proposed channel estimator can be avoided. The proposed interference cancellation scheme uses the estimated cha…
Credit card incidents and control systems
2012
Abstract Credit and debit cards have spread and skyrocketed all around the world to become the most popular means of payments in many countries. Despite their enormous popularity, cards are not free of risk. Technology development and e-commerce have exponentially increased internal credit card incidents. This paper identifies and quantifies the different types of credit card fraud and puts into question the effectiveness of the role assigned to cardholders in its detection.
Anomaly detection in dynamic systems using weak estimators
2011
Accepted version of an article from the journal: ACM transactions on internet technology. Published version available from the ACM: http://dx.doi.org/10.1145/1993083.1993086 Anomaly detection involves identifying observations that deviate from the normal behavior of a system. One of the ways to achieve this is by identifying the phenomena that characterize “normal” observations. Subsequently, based on the characteristics of data learned from the “normal” observations, new observations are classified as being either “normal” or not. Most state-of-the-art approaches, especially those which belong to the family of parameterized statistical schemes, work under the assumption that the underlying…
Fotovoz como metodología innovadora en educación superior
2022
The adaptation to the EHEA has demanded the emer…
Educating reflective Enterprise Systems practitioners: a design research study of the iterative building of a teaching framework
2013
This research paper reports on the iterative design of a teaching framework developed for teaching Enterprise Systems ES classes for Information Systems IS graduates. These systems embed technical complexity and create organizational challenges when implemented in organizations. Therefore, teaching good ES classes is pedagogically challenging for faculty, and ES curricula are difficult for students. We have gradually designed and rebuilt curricula and teaching frameworks over 8years. This has also resulted in a set of eight design principles. We report from our design and evaluation process and present our final artefact, the teaching framework. The aim is to educate reflective practitioner…
