Bichromatic field propagation in a resonant medium: Floquet analysis

We study the propagation of a bichromatic field in a resonant medium. The two modes of the incoming fields are pulsed and delayed with respect to each other. It is shown that in the course of the propagation, new Raman sidebands will be generated. The achievable frequency spacing between the sidebands is determined from experimental data. A numerical example is shown for realistic physical parameters.
The ATLAS detector control system

The ATLAS experiment is one of the multi-purpose experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, constructed to study elementary particle interactions in collisions of high-energy proton beams. Twelve different sub detectors as well as the common experimental infrastructure are controlled and monitored by the Detector Control System (DCS) using a highly distributed system of 140 server machines running the industrial SCADA product PVSS. CORAL and COOL during the LHC long shutdown.

CORAL and COOL are two software packages used by the LHC experiments for managing detector conditions and other types of data using relational database technologies. They have been developed and maintained within the LCG Persistency Framework, a common project of the CERN IT department with ATLAS, CMS and LHCb. This presentation reports on the status of CORAL and COOL at the time of CHEP2013, covering the new features and enhancements in both packages, as well as the changes and improvements in the software process infrastructure. Assessment of synthetic winds through spectral modeling and validation using FAST

In this paper, we analyse the simulated and measured wind data with respect to their spectral characteristics and their effect on wind turbine loads. The synthetic data is generated from a stochastic full-field turbulent wind simulator - TurbSim for neutral stability conditions. We first investigate a model for velocity spectra and, a coherence model, by comparing the model results with the measurements. In the second part we analyse the synthetic data via spectra and coherence for two cases; without and with adding coherent events. The Farcos project: Femtoscope Array for Correlations and Femtoscopy

The Farcos project (Femtoscope Array for Correlations and Spectroscopy) is discussed in this contribution. It consists of a new detector array designed and constructed by Exochim-Chimera group at INFN of Catania and Laboratori Nazionali del Sud. The array is described in its design and scientific goals to address. Some of the first preliminary tests with radioactive sources and beams are also discussed, together with some highlights of future perspectives.
Analysis of a Station Black-Out transient in SMR by using the TRACE and RELAP5 code

The present paper deals with the investigation of the evolution and consequences of a Station Black-Out (SBO) initiating event transient in the SPES3 facility [1]. This facility is an integral simulator of a small modular reactor being built at the SIET laboratories, in the framework of the R&D program on nuclear fission funded by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development and led by ENEA. The SBO transient will be simulated by using the RELAP5 and TRACE nodalizations of the SPES3 facility. TRIGA-SPEC: the prototype of MATS and LaSpec

Investigation of short-lived nuclei is a challenging task that MATS and LaSpec will handle at the low energy branch of Super-FRS at FAIR. The groundwork for those experiments is laid-out already today at the TRIGA-SPEC facility as a powerful development platform located at the research reactor TRIGA Mainz. The latest status, new developments and first results of commissioning runs are presented here.
RELAP5-3D thermal hydraulic analysis of the target cooling system in the SPES experimental facility

The SPES (Selective Production of Exotic Species) experimental facility, under construction at the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) Laboratories of Legnaro, Italy, is a second generation Isotope Separation On Line (ISOL) plant for advanced nuclear physic studies. The UCx target-ion source system works at temperature of about 2273 K, producing a high level of radiation (10^5 Sv/h), for this reason a careful risk analysis for the target chamber is among the major safety issues. In search for a canonical design ABL stability class for wind farm turbines

Production as well as loading of wake exposed wind turbines is known to depend significantly on stability of the Atmospheric Boundary Layer (ABL), which adds a new dimension to design of wind farm turbines. Adding this new aspect in wind turbine design makes the number of design cycle computations to blow up with a factor equal to the number of representative stability bin classes. The research question to be answered in this paper is: Can an ABL stability probability distribution in a meaningful way be collapsed into a representative design stability class as based on a (predefined) confidence level.
ComPWA: A common amplitude analysis framework for PANDA

A large part of the physics program of the PANDA experiment at FAIR deals with the search for new conventional and exotic hadronic states like e.g. hybrids and glueballs. For many analyses PANDA will need an amplitude analysis, e.g. a partial wave analysis (PWA), to identify possible candidates and for the classification of known states. Therefore, a new, agile and efficient amplitude analysis framework ComPWA is under development. It is modularized to provide easy extension with models and formalisms as well as fitting of multiple datasets, even from different experiments.
