Time-resolved photoabsorption in finite systems: A first-principles NEGF approach

2016

We describe a first-principles NonEquilibrium Green’s Function (NEGF) approach to time-resolved photoabsortion spectroscopy in atomic and nanoscale systems. The method is used to highlight a recently discovered dynamical correlation effect in the spectrum of a Krypton gas subject to a strong ionizing pump pulse. We propose a minimal model that captures the effect, and study the performance of time-local approximations versus time-nonlocal ones. In particular we implement the time-local Hartree-Fock and Markovian second Born (2B) approximation as well as the exact adiabatic approximation within the Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory framework. For the time-nonlocal approximation we ins…

High-precision studies of domain-wall properties in the 2D Gaussian Ising spin glass

2019

In two dimensions, short-range spin glasses order only at zero temperature, where efficient combinatorial optimization techniques can be used to study these systems with high precision. The use of large system sizes and high statistics in disorder averages allows for reliable finite-size extrapolations to the thermodynamic limit. Here, we use a recently introduced mapping of the Ising spin-glass ground-state problem to a minimum-weight perfect matching problem on a sparse auxiliary graph to study square-lattice samples of up to 10 000 × 10 000 spins. We propose a windowing technique that allows to extend this method, that is formally restricted to planar graphs, to the case of systems with …

Spin polarized electron transport and partial localization of photoelectrons in highly doped photocathodes

2011

The results of experimental and theoretical studies of spin polarized electron transport in semiconductor SL used for photoemitter application are presented. The experimental study is based on the time resolved measurements of electron emission from the cathode after its photoexcitation by fs laser pulse. The response and spin relaxation times have been determined by means of measured time dependent intensity and polarization of electron emission. We also performed theoretical calculations of photocathode pulse response and compared the obtained results with experimental data. Our analysis testifies the presence of partial electron localization in SL. Electron capture by localized states le…

Dynamics for a simple graph using the U(N) framework for loop quantum gravity

2012

The implementation of the dynamics in loop quantum gravity (LQG) is still an open problem. Here, we discuss a tentative dynamics for the simplest class of graphs in LQG: Two vertices linked with an arbitrary number of edges. We find an interesting global U(N) symmetry in this model that selects the homogeneous/isotropic sector. Then, we propose a quantum Hamiltonian operator for this reduced sector. Finally, we introduce the spinor representation for LQG in order to propose a classical effective dynamics for this model.

Numerical test of finite-size scaling predictions for the droplet condensation-evaporation transition

2016

We numerically study the finite-size droplet condensation-evaporation transition in two dimensions. We consider and compare two orthogonal approaches, namely at fixed temperature and at fixed density, making use of parallel multicanonical simulations. The equivalence between Ising model and lattice gas allows us to compare to analytical predictions. We recover the known background density (at fixed temperature) and transition temperature (at fixed density) in the thermodynamic limit and compare our finite-size deviations to the predicted leading-order finite-size corrections.

Studying the microlenses mass function from statistical analysis of the caustic concentration

2011

The statistical distribution of caustic crossings by the images of a lensed quasar depends on the properties of the distribution of microlenses in the lens galaxy. We use a procedure based in Inverse Polygon Mapping to easily identify the critical and caustic curves generated by a distribution of stars in the lens galaxy. We analyze the statistical distributions of the number of caustic crossings by a pixel size source for several projected mass densities and different mass distributions. We compare the results of simulations with theoretical binomial distributions. Finally we apply this method to the study of the stellar mass distribution in the lens galaxy of QSO 2237+0305.

Hunt for θ13with LENA

2012

In a hunt for by far missing neutrino mixing angle ?13 the accelerator experiments have recently indicated non-zero value and the dedicated reactor neutrino experiments are moving towards the data-taking phase to confirm that. The small effect of ?13 to the neutrino oscillation probabilities can be also complementarily probed using artificially made source of mono-chromatic neutrinos with low energies originated from electron capture processes. Due to the small energy of neutrino and tiny interaction cross section, and the expected scale of ?13 support the use of large liquid scintillation detector. In this work, the estimated sensitivities for measurement of mixing angle ?13 is presented i…

Testing the Standard Model and beyond with the LENA proposal

2014

We discuss the possibility of a precision measurement of the electroweak mixing angle and a probe for new physics in the leptonic process of neutrino electron scattering. In the new physics schemes we explore the case of non standard neutrino interactions (NSI). The LENA proposal, currently under discussion, considers a large detector and the use of an articial, 51 Cr, radioactive neutrino source with of 5 MCi intensity. We also discuss the possible use of the solar neutrino

Omnibus experiment: CPT and CP violation with sterile neutrinos

2016

We propose to probe both the CPT and CP violation together with the search for sterile neutrinos in one do-it-all experiment. This omnibus experiment would utilize neutrino oscillometry with large scintillator detectors like LENA, JUNO or RENO-50 and manmade radioactive sources similar to the ones used by the GALLEX experiment. Our calculations indicate that such an experiment is realistic and could be performed in parallel to the main research plan for JUNO, LENA, or RENO-50. Assuming as the starting point the values of the oscillation parameters indicated by the current global fit (in 3 active + 1 sterile scenario) and requiring at least 5 sigma confidence level, we estimate that with the…
