Constrained and unconstrained problems in location theory and inner products
1997
In a real normed space X the optimization problem associated to a finite subset and to a family of positive weights with the objective function [UM0001] has some well known properties when X is an ...
Long Non Coding RNA H19: A New Player in Hypoxia-Induced Multiple Myeloma Cell Dissemination
2019
The long non-coding RNA H19 (lncH19) is broadly transcribed in the first stage of development and silenced in most cells of an adult organism
Digital Image Analysis Applied to Tumor Cell Proliferation, Aggressiveness, and Migration-Related Protein Synthesis in Neuroblastoma 3D Models
2020
Patient-derived cancer 3D models are a promising tool that will revolutionize personalized cancer therapy but that require previous knowledge of optimal cell growth conditions and the most advantageous parameters to evaluate biomimetic relevance and monitor therapy efficacy. This study aims to establish general guidelines on 3D model characterization phenomena, focusing on neuroblastoma. We generated gelatin-based scaffolds with different stiffness and performed SK-N-BE(2) and SH-SY5Y aggressive neuroblastoma cell cultures, also performing co-cultures with mouse stromal Schwann cell line (SW10). Model characterization by digital image analysis at different time points revealed that cell pro…
A stigmergic approach for social interaction design in collaboration engineering
2014
The increasing number of available collaborative tools and their extensive use in many organizational activities has constantly raised the complexity of collaboration engineering. It presumes the design of group decision processes, supported by a wide-range of groupware tools, in an ill-structured, dynamic, and open environment. As many of these processes are recurring by nature, the development of a shared repository to store the collective knowledge and experiences of group decision process designs became a core research topic of collaboration engineering in last few years. The paper presents a human-computer interaction engineering approach to design a software prototype that provides pe…
A probabilistic expert system for predicting the risk of Legionella in evaporative installations
2011
Research highlights? The bacterium Legionella usually lives in water sources such as cooling towers. ? We discuss a probabilistic expert system for predicting the risk of Legionella. ? The expert system has a master-slave architecture. ? The inference engine is implemented through Bayesian reasoning. ? Bayesian networks model and connect relationships for chemical and physical variables. Early detection in water evaporative installations is one of the keys to fighting against the bacterium Legionella, the main cause of Legionnaire's disease. This paper discusses the general structure, elements and operation of a probabilistic expert system capable of predicting the risk of Legionella in rea…
Two-dimensional filters for structured text
1997
The paper introduces a method for defining filters for structured text. In the method, the text structure is originally defined by a grammar consisting of a set of productions. To describe the information interests, a two-dimensional template is first created interactively from the grammar to show the structure of a set of textual elements, at a chosen level of detail. The template depicts the hierarchical structure of the elements and indicates also optionality, alternatives, and iteration in the structure. Then, the template is filled by constraints and annotations. The constraints allow giving conditions to the content of parts, to the position of parts in an ordered set of parts, and to…
Interactions between contingency, organizational IT factors, and ERP success
2009
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of some organizational information technology (IT) factors (i.e. IT assets, employees' IT skills, IT resources, and satisfaction with legacy IT systems) and their interacting effects with two contingency factors (i.e. organization's size and structure) on enterprise resource planning (ERP) system success.Design/methodology/approachSurveys were conducted in two European countries. Respondents came from diverse, private, and industrial organizations. Relevant hypotheses were developed and tested using a structural equation modeling technique.FindingsThe analysis supported – partially or fully – six of the eight hypotheses formulated. F…
Developing an Understanding of Organisational Knowledge Creation: A Review Framework
2017
The purpose of this paper is to develop an understanding of the dimensions of organisational knowledge creation. To this end, the literature from numerous bodies of research is reviewed. Over the past 20 years, the literature on organisational knowledge creation has significantly grown and advanced. Many new and conflicting terminologies have evolved to shed more light on the subject. As a result, there are overlaps and conflicts in the literature. The framework suggested in this paper is therefore considered to be a useful means to structure further research on the subject. This paper presents an extensive review of the organisational knowledge creation literature as well as an overview of…
A multi objective genetic algorithm for the facility layout problem based upon slicing structure encoding
2012
This paper proposes a new multi objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) for solving unequal area facility layout problems (UA-FLPs). The genetic algorithm suggested is based upon the slicing structure where the relative locations of the facilities on the floor are represented by a location matrix encoded in two chromosomes. A block layout is constructed by partitioning the floor into a set of rectangular blocks using guillotine cuts satisfying the areas requirements of the departments. The procedure takes into account four objective functions (material handling costs, aspect ratio, closeness and distance requests) by means of a Pareto based evolutionary approach. The main advantage of the propos…
A multi-objective approach to facility layout problem by genetic search algorithm and Electre method
2006
Abstract Classical approaches to layout design problem tend to maximise the efficiency of layout, measured by the handling cost related to the interdepartmental flow and to the distance among the departments. However, the actual problem involves several conflicting objectives hence requiring a multi-objective formulation. Multi-objective approaches, recently proposed, in most cases lead to the maximisation of a weighted sum of score functions. The poor practicability of such an approach is due to the difficulty of normalising these functions and of quantifying the weights. In this paper, this difficulty is overcome by approaching the problem in two subsequent steps: in the first step, the P…
