Reshaping End-of-Life components by sheet hydroforming: An experimental and numerical analysis

2022

In this study, a numerical/experimental analysis is proposed to investigate the possibility of reshaping sheet metal-based End-of-Life (EoL) components using sheet Hydroforming (SHF). Returned EoL components are challenging to be reformed, they are usually characterised by high heterogeneity as there are localised thinning areas (caused by the original forming processes), and the overall formability is reduced with respect to the original flat sheet material. The reshaping route was replicated: a deep drawing process was adopted to impart a square feature; subsequently, SHF was performed. The capability of remove the deep drawn feature was analysed with varying Blank-holder force, oil press…

Recent advances in green industrial networking [Guest Editorial]

2016

The articles in this special section focus on green industrial networking. Due to the explosive increase in energy usage, it is essential that governmental and industrial institutions address this problem. Therefore, the development of green and low-carbon economy has recently become a hot issue in the industry. It is envisioned in such cases to meet the growing demands for industrial networking with limited resources. This is considered one of the challenges that needs to be addressed. Addressing such key problems will hopefully allow us to reach the realization of sustainable development. We believe that network technologies will be critical and will greatly contribute to achieving large-…

Sustainable Innovation: A Competitive Advantage for Innovation Ecosystems

2015

In this article, we elaborate the emerging concept of sustainable innovation and analyze the relevance of innovation as a means to solve wicked problems and enhancing sustainable well-being. We also examine the changing conditions for innovation creation: building global knowledge hubs and local innovation ecosystems. As a result, the drivers of innovation and opportunities to utilize the untapped innovation potential of people outside traditional innovation contexts are expanded and diversified. Ultimately, the success of sustainable innovation constitutes its impact on the well-being of people and vice versa: sustainable well-being is an important source of innovation and growth. The arti…

Memetic Engineering for Permanent Education in Line with Sustainable Growth

2012

Given the recent point of view of the European Commission regarding the implementation of a new strategy for sustainable growth and jobs, this paper emphasises the opportunity and urgency of supporting the EU 2020 strategy, providing an appropriate educational tool for the knowledge society. The main objectives are: a. adapting memetic engineering expressed in terms of General System Theory to the teaching component of permanent education based on bounded rationality and "Just in Time"as key tools for fighting cognitive chaoplexity in the post-industrial era; b. facilitating the use of memetic engineering based on its double-faceted nature: as both positive and negative feedback; c. extendi…

Order allocation in a multiple suppliers-manufacturers environment within a dynamic cluster

2015

This study faces the problem of how to evaluate order allocation strategies in a multiple suppliers-manufacturers environment within a dynamic industry cluster that is an environment in which suppliers adopt a policy based on their performance to select the clusters in which to operate. Therefore, the allocation strategy performed by the manufacturers is crucial to keep a long-term supply chain partnership with a specific industry cluster. We use simulation to evaluate order allocation strategies under different market conditions. We show how an allocation strategy that takes into account the whole supply chain’s perspective leads to a sustainable development of the clusters of suppliers.

About Objective 3-D Analysis of Airway Geometry in Computerized Tomography

2008

The technology of multislice X-ray computed tomography (MSCT) provides volume data sets with approximately isotropic resolution, which permits a noninvasive 3-D measurement and quantification of airway geometry. In different diseases, like emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or cystic fribrosis, changes in lung parenchyma are associated with an increase in airway wall thickness. In this paper, we describe an objective measuring method of the airway geometry in the 3-D space. The limited spatial resolution of clinical CT scanners in comparison to thin structures like airway walls causes difficulties in the measurement of the density and the thickness of these structures.…

Os princípios da administração pública: aspectos a considerar

2000

The article treats about the experience developed in teaching project. The technique employment was looked for that carried in its salience the possibility of larger integration of the academic theoretical knowledge to the reality of the life, that could contribute to a formation more returned to the nowadays ditames. It was outstanding the system aspects of the right and the possibility of the use of the topical thought, giving emphasis to the hole and reduce visions. The reason of the adoption of methodological plurality was described, but it was made with the prominence for the technique of the problematization. It stood out the importance of the principles of the right and its pertinenc…

Errors in Monte Carlo simulations using shift register random number generators

1996

We report large systematic errors in Monte Carlo simulations of the tricritical Blume-Capel model using single spin Metropolis updating. The error, manifest as a $20\%$ asymmetry in the magnetisation distribution, is traced to the interplay between strong triplet correlations in the shift register random number generator and the large tricritical clusters. The effect of these correlations is visible only when the system volume is a multiple of the random number generator lag parameter. No such effects are observed in related models.

epiModel: A system to build automatically systems of differential equations of compartmental type-epidemiological models

2011

In this paper we describe epiModel, a code developed in Mathematica that facilitates the building of systems of differential equations corresponding to type-epidemiological linear or quadratic models whose characteristics are defined in text files following an easy syntax. It includes the possibility of obtaining the equations of models involving age and/or sex groups. © 2011.

THE INFLUENCE OF CONTRARIANS AND OPPORTUNISTS ON THE STABILITY OF A DEMOCRACY IN THE SZNAJD MODEL

2004

Sznajd-Weron and Sznajd introduced a model investigating the democratic development in a closed community. This model is based on the USDF-principle ("united we stand, divided we fall"). However, it faces the problem that the system tends either to a dictatorship (i.e., 100% pro or 100% contra) or to a stalemate state (i.e., exactly 50% pro, 50% contra). Based on their model, I will show that a democratic system keeps alive due to the existence of both opportunists and persons in opposition.
