Speed perception is an important task depending mainly on optic flow that the driver must perform continuously to control his/her vehicle. Unfortunately, it appears that in some driving simulators speed perception is under estimated, leading into speed production higher than in real conditions. A new fuzzy adaptive motion control system including on-line extended Kalman''s filter (EKF) for wheeled underactuated cars with non-holonomic constraints on the motion is presented. The presence of parametric uncertainties in the kinematics and in the dynamics is treated using suitable differential adaptation laws. We merge adaptive control with fuzzy inference system. By using fuzzy system, the parameters of the kinematical controller are functions of the lateral, longitudinal and orientation errors of the motion. Abstract In this paper, a robust data-driven fault detection approach is proposed with application to a wind turbine benchmark. The main challenges of the wind turbine fault detection lie in its nonlinearity, unknown disturbances as well as significant measurement noise. To overcome these difficulties, a data-driven fault detection scheme is proposed with robust residual generators directly constructed from available process data. A performance index and an optimization criterion are proposed to achieve the robustness of the residual signals related to the disturbances. A computer‐aided instrument for pattern recognition of partial discharges

In this paper a new computer‐aided digital system for partial discharge (PD) measurements is presented. The system is able to collect a great number of data, up to a pulse repetition rate of 100kHz, during the acquisition phase, thus allowing an off‐line analysis of PD data. After a description of the instrument, some experimental tests performed on epoxy specimens are here presented in terms of amplitude, phase and energy resolved histograms. Finally, emphasis is given to the very interesting use of the instrument for pattern recognition techniques in the discrimination and classification of discharges in HV components.
A Monte Carlo Method for the Auto-Evaluation of the Uncertainties in the Analog-to-Digital Conversion-Based Measurements

This paper concerns with the measurement uncertainty estimation in the analog‐to‐digital conversion‐based instruments. By using an ad hoc developed software tool, the Monte Carlo method is applied in order to assess the uncertainties associated with the measurement results, overcoming the possible inapplicability of the pure theoretical approach prescribed in the ISO – “Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement”. By implementing the software tool in the measurement instruments, the proposed approach can be utilized in order to make the instrument itself able to auto‐estimate the measurement uncertainties.
Development of 3D Anti-Swing Control for Hydraulic Knuckle Boom Crane

In this paper, 3D anti-swing control for a hydraulic loader crane is presented. The difference between hydraulic and electric cranes are discussed to show the challenges associated with hydraulic actuation. The hanging load dynamics and relevant kinematics of the crane are derived to model the system and create the 3D anti-swing controller. The anti-swing controller generates a set of tool point velocities which are added to the electro-hydraulic motion controller via feedforward. A dynamic simulation model of the crane is made, and the control system is evaluated in simulations with a path controller in actuator space. Observation and identification tools for non-linear systems: application to a fluid catalytic cracker

In this paper we recall general methodologies we developed for observation and identification in non-linear systems theory, and we show how they can be applied to real practical problems. In a previous paper, we introduced a filter which is intermediate between the extended Kalman filter in its standard version and its high-gain version, and we applied it to certain observation problems. But we were missing some important cases. Here, we show how to treat these cases. We also apply the same technique in the context of our identifiability theory.
