Status of a MIND type Neutrino Factory Far Detector

2013

A realistic simulation and analysis of a Magnetized Iron Neutrino Detector (MIND) has been developed for the purpose of understanding the potential sensitivity of such a facility. The status of the MIND simulation and reconstruction as discussed in the interim design report is reviewed here. Priorities for producing a more realistic simulation for a reference design report will be discussed, as will be the steps that have already been taken towards an improved simulation.

Isospin triplet A=14: search for states with enhanced radii

2020

Abstract This article is devoted to study of isobar-analogue states 1− in triplet A=14: 14C-14N-14O. Previously signs of neutron halo in the 1−, 6.09 MeV state of 14C were obtained by two independent groups. In this article we propose to study neighbouring nuclei 14N and 14O using the Modified diffraction model (MDM) method and the method of Asymptotic normalization coefficients (ANC). Methods were applied to experimental differential cross sections of 14C(α,α)14C scattering and reactions 13C(3He,d)14N and 14N(3He,t)14O. MDM and ANC gave practically similar within errors radii for the studied 1− states: the 6.09 MeV state in 14C – 2.7±0.1 fm, the 8.06 MeV state in 14N – 2.7 ± 0.1 fm, the 5.…

Top-quark mass measurements at LHC: a new approach

2013

We present a new method to measure the top-quark mass in high energetic hadron collisions at the LHC. We study the mass dependence of the production of top-quark pairs in association with an additional jet. The cross section of tt+1Jet production is sensitive to the top-quark mass since gluon radiation depends on the top-quark mass through threshold and cone effects. In particular we study the normalised tt +1Jet cross section differential in the invariant mass of the final state jets. We have investigated the sensitivity of the method together with the impact of various theoretical and experimental uncertainties. We find that the method has the potential to be competitive with existing met…

Transition From Ideal To Viscous Mach Cones In A Partonic Transport Model

2013

Using a partonic transport model we investigate the evolution of conical structures in ultrarelativistic matter. Using two different source terms and varying the transport properties of the matter we study the formation of Mach Cones. Furthermore, in an additional study we extract the two-particle correlations from the numerical calculations and compare them to an analytical approximation. The influence of the viscosity to the shape of Mach Cones and the corresponding two-particle correlations is studied by adjusting the cross section of the medium. peerReviewed

Dynamics of oscillating magnetized relativistic tori around a Schwarzschild black hole

2007

We present a comprehensive numerical study of the dynamics of magnetized relativistic axisymmetric tori orbiting in the background spacetime of a Schwarzschild black hole. The tori are modeled as having a purely toroidal magnetic field and a constant distribution of the specific angular momentum. Following previous investigations of tori in a purely hydrodynamical context, the dynamics of these objects has been studied upon the introduction of a perturbation which, for the values of the magnetic field considered here, triggers quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) lasting tens of orbital periods. As in the hydrodynamical case, the spectral distribution of the eigenfrequencies shows the presenc…

Structural damage detection using auto correlation functions of vibration response under sinusoidal excitation

2015

Structural damage detection using time domain vibration responses has attracted more and more researchers in recent years because of its simplicity in calculation and no requirement of a finite element model. This paper proposes a new approach to locate the damage using the auto correlation function of vibration response signals under sinusoidal excitation from different measurement points of the structure, based on which a vector named Auto Correlation Function at Maximum Point Value Vector (AMV) is formulated. A sensitivity analysis of the normalized AMV with respect to the local stiffness shows that under several specific frequency excitations, the normalized AMV has a sharp change aroun…

Testing Time Dilation on Fast Ion Beams

2011

We report the status of an experimental test of time dilation in Special Relativity. This is accomplished by simultaneously measuring the forward and backward Doppler shifts of an electronic transition of fast moving ions, using high-precision laser spectroscopy. From these two Doppler shifts both the ion velocity ? = v/c and the time dilation factor can be derived. From measurements based on saturation spectroscopy on lithium ions stored at ? = 0.03 and ? = 0.06 in the TSR heavy-ion storage ring, we achieved an upper limit for a [?2] deviation from Special Relativity of . In recent measurements on a ? = 0.34 Li+ beam in the ESR storage ring we used optical-optical double-resonance spectros…

Parallel phase-shifting digital holography based on the fractional Talbot effect

2010

A method for recording on-axis single-shot digital holograms based on the self-imaging phenomenon is reported. A simple binary two-dimensional periodic amplitude is used to codify the reference beam in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer, generating a periodic three-step phase distribution with uniform irradiance over the sensor plane by fractional Talbot effect. An image sensor records only one shot of the interference between the light field scattered by the object and the codified parallel reference beam. Images of the object are digitally reconstructed from the digital hologram through the numerical evaluation of the Fresnel diffraction integral. This scheme provides an efficient way to perfo…

Collimation of Target Induced Halo Following MAGIX at MESA

2019

The Mainz Energy-recovering Superconducting Accelerator (MESA) will be an electron accelerator allowing operation in energy-recovery linac (ERL) mode. It provides the opportunity to operate scattering experiments at energies of ~100 MeV with thin gas-targets. The MESA Internal Gas Target Experiment (MAGIX) aims to operate windowless jet targets and different gases up to Xenon to search for possible dark photon interactions, to precisely measure the magnetic proton radius and astrophysical S-factors. Investigations on the impact of the target on beam dynamics and beam losses are required for machine safety and to examine limits to ERL operation. The goal of this work is to understand target …

Galactic synchrotron emission from astrophysical electrons

2012

The interaction between the galactic magnetic field and the non-thermal population of electrons is responsible for a large part of the radio sky from 10 MHz up to several GHz. This population is mostly composed of electrons with primary and secondary origin. Cosmic ray propagation models describe their evolution in space and energy, and allow to study the impact on the radio sky in intensity and morphology at different frequencies. We consider different propagation models and test their compatibility with available radio maps. We find models highly consistent both with B/C data, the local electron flux and synchrotron emission observations. The resulting constraints on propagation models co…
