Throughput and energy efficiency comparison of one-hop, two-hop, virtual relay and cooperative retransmission schemes
2010
Two main types of approaches exist for implementing cooperative communications at the MAC layer: virtual-hop relay and cooperative retransmission. While the virtual-hop relay schemes employ relay nodes to forward packets when higher end-to-end throughput can be achieved compared with the direct transmission, the cooperative retransmission schemes use relays to retransmit data only after the direct transmission fails. However, the performance of the these different approaches has not been compared in the literature, especially when energy efficiency is considered. In order to find out the best transmission scheme, this paper evaluates and compares the performance of the one-hop direct transm…
Performance Analysis of M-DPSK Modulation over Fast-Hoyt Fading Channels under Non-Isotropic Scattering Conditions
2021
In this paper, we analyze the symbol error probability (SEP) performance of M-ary differential phase shift keying (M-DPSK) modulation schemes over frequency-flat fast-varying Hoyt multipath fading channels. Assuming general non-isotropic scattering conditions, we first derive a finite-range integral expression for the probability density function (PDF) of the phase difference between two non-isotropic Hoyt vectors perturbed by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). Based upon the theory of M-DPSK modulation and the obtained PDF formula, the SEP of M-DPSK and its corresponding asymptotic behavior in non-isotropic fast-Hoyt fading channels are derived. Specifically, a double semi-finite range …
Performance analysis of the out-of-band signaling scheme for high speed wireless LANs
2005
In this paper, we study the performance of our earlier proposed out-of-band signaling (OBS) scheme for high speed wireless local area networks (WLANs). We employ the system approximation technique for modeling of the OBS scheme. An equivalent state dependent single server queue, that describes the OBS scheme, is constructed for the analysis of the throughput and delay performances. Moreover, we study the throughput optimization of the OBS scheme, which provides a means for optimizing the performance of the OBS scheme, given a particular network environment. Finally, we conduct several simulation experiments to validate our analytical results.
Call Admission Control in Single and Two-Tier Cellular Networks
2010
We consider four strategies for call admission control (CAC) in single and two-tier cellular networks, which are designed to ensure advantage of handover calls: dynamic redundancy (cutoff priority scheme), partial dynamic redundancy (fractional guard channel scheme), static redundancy (rigid division-based CAC scheme) and restriction of the number of new calls admitted (new call bounding scheme). We show the advantage of dynamic reservation by numerical analysis. We strictly prove it in the case of two-channel system with losses.
Accurate Graph Filtering in Wireless Sensor Networks
2020
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are considered as a major technology enabling the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm. The recent emerging Graph Signal Processing field can also contribute to enabling the IoT by providing key tools, such as graph filters, for processing the data associated with the sensor devices. Graph filters can be performed over WSNs in a distributed manner by means of a certain number of communication exchanges among the nodes. But, WSNs are often affected by interferences and noise, which leads to view these networks as directed, random and time-varying graph topologies. Most of existing works neglect this problem by considering an unrealistic assumption that claims the…
Blind multi-user detection by fast fixed point algorithm without prior knowledge of symbol-level timing
2003
We consider the estimation of the source process of the desired user an the downlink of a code-division multiple access (CDMA) communication system. In downlink signal processing, only the code of the mobile telephone user is known, while the codes of the interfering users are unknown. Blind source separation or independent component analysis is an approach offering the solution to this problem. In this work we apply the fast fixed point algorithm to the separation problem. The algorithm is based on fourth-order statistics optimization. Knowledge about the symbol level timing has to be known only coarsely.
Energy balance in single exposure multispectral sensors
2013
International audience; Recent simulations of multispectral sensors are based on a simple Gaussian model, which includes filters transmittance and substrate absorption. In this paper we want to make the distinction between these two layers. We discuss the balance of energy by channel in multispectral solid state sensors and propose an updated simple Gaussian model to simulate multispectral sensors. Results are based on simulation of typical sensor configurations.
Interference excision algorithm for frequency hopping spread spectrum based on undecimated wavelet packet transform
2002
An algorithm for reducing narrowband interference effects in frequency hopping spread spectrum is presented. The method is based on the undecimated wavelet packet transform. It improves the performance obtained by other methods. Experimental results demonstrate the suitability of the algorithm.
Circuit-Elimination based Link-State Routing in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks
2007
Circuit-elimination based connected dominating set formation is an efficient technique for reducing routing overhead in mobile ad hoc networks. In this paper, we propose a new message dissemination algorithm which utilizes such techniques to reduce the number of nodes that generate or forward link state advertisements in link state routing protocols. Simulation results with both static and dynamic network topologies demonstrate the potential of the proposed algorithm to reduce routing overhead, compared with a benchmark link state routing protocol, OLSR.
