An Emphatic Humanoid Robot with Emotional Latent Semantic Behavior
2008
In this paper we propose an Entertainment Humanoid Robot model based on Latent Semantic Analysis, that tries to exhibit an emotional behavior in the interaction with human. Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA), based on vector space allows the coding of the words semantics by specific statistical computations applied to a large corpus of text. We illustrate how the creation and the use of this emotional conceptual space can provide a framework upon which to build “Latent Semantic Behavior” because it simulates the emotionalassociative capabilities of human beings. This approach integrates traditional knowledge representation with intuitive capabilities provided by geometric and sub-symbolic infor…
Interlocking content and attitude: a reply to the anti-normativist
2021
Anti-normativists have advanced the view that the involvement of content in norms is not an essential feature of content, but a contingent feature or side effect of the normativity governing attitu...
Review of RGB photoelasticity
2015
Abstract Automatic methods of photoelasticity have had a significant progress with the development of automatic acquisition and image processing methods. This article concerns RGB photoelasticity, which allows the determination of the photoelastic retardation using, usually, a single acquisition of the isochromatic fringes in white light by a colour camera. In particular, the article presents an overview of the main characteristics of RGB photoelasticity that is influence of the quarter-wave plate error, number of acquisitions, type of light source, determination of low and high fringe orders, methods for searching the retardation, scanning procedures, calibration on a material different fr…
Developments in RGB photoelasticity
2006
In this paper the combined use of both RGB and phase stepping photoelasticity is proposed. The method is characterised by the following features: maximum measurable order greater than that of the RGB method, ability to determine the total fringe order without necessity of unwrapping.
3D mosaics survey: analysis of photogrammetric/computer vision approach in a metrological context
2016
The goal of the paper is evaluate photogrammetric/computer vision approach in a metrological context for 3D mosaics survey. The aim of the mosaics survey is the production of a full-scale representation (scale 1:1) useful for the documentation and for the restoration processes. In order to evaluate the optimal photogrammetric/computer vision workflow in this work three different surveys have been done for three mosaics with different size and location. Two of these are stored at Regional Archaeological Museum “Antonino Salinas” in Palermo (Italy) and the other one is stored at Regional Archaeological Museum “Baglio Anselmi” in Marsala (Italy). The research has allowed to show the potentiali…
Inclusion of Inter Crystal Scatter data in PET
2012
In PET, as the spatial resolution of the measurement system is increased, multiple interactions of a single photon may be separately measured and such events are often removed from the data used in image reconstruction. While for some PET imaging tasks this effect is unimportant, for primate, brain and high-spatial-resolution imaging where sensitivity is important, such Inter Crystal Scattering (ICS) events may constitute a large fraction of the measured data. On-the-fly list-mode image reconstruction is generally required in order to use all the information provided by ICS. Simulated One-Pass List-mode image reconstruction is used in this investigation to study the inclusion of ICS informa…
Hyperspectral terahertz microscopy via nonlinear ghost imaging
2020
Ghost imaging, based on single-pixel detection and multiple pattern illumination, is a crucial investigative tool in difficult-to-access wavelength regions. In the terahertz domain, where high-resolution imagers are mostly unavailable, ghost imaging is an optimal approach to embed the temporal dimension, creating a “hyperspectral” imager. In this framework, high resolution is mostly out of reach. Hence, it is particularly critical to developing practical approaches for microscopy. Here we experimentally demonstrate time-resolved nonlinear ghost imaging, a technique based on near-field, optical-to-terahertz nonlinear conversion and detection of illumination patterns. We show how space–time c…
The MORA project
2018
The MORA (Matter's Origin from the RadioActivity of trapped and oriented ions) project aims at measuring with unprecedented precision the D correlation in the nuclear beta decay of trapped and oriented ions. The D correlation offers the possibility to search for new CP-violating interactions, complementary to searches done at the LHC and with Electric Dipole Moments. Technically, MORA uses an innovative in-trap orientation method which combines the high trapping efficiency of a transparent Paul trap with laser orientation techniques. The trapping, detection, and laser setups are under development, for first tests at the Accelerator laboratory, JYFL, in the coming years.
Cost-Effective Treatment of Scalar Relativistic Effects for Multireference Systems: A CASSCF Implementation Based on the Spin-free Dirac-Coulomb Hami…
2016
We present an implementation of the complete active space-self-consistent field (CASSCF) method specifically designed to be used in four-component scalar relativistic calculations based on the spin-free Dirac-Coulomb (SFDC) Hamiltonian. Our implementation takes full advantage of the properties of the SFDC Hamiltonian that allow us to use real algebra and to exploit point-group and spin symmetry to their full extent while including in a rigorous way scalar relativistic effects in the treatment. The SFDC-CASSCF treatment is more expensive than its non-relativistic counterpart only in the orbital optimization step, while exhibiting the same computational cost for the rate-determining full conf…
