Secure, dependable and publicly verifiable distributed data storage in unattended wireless sensor networks
2010
Published version of an article from the journal : Science in China, Series F: Information Sciences. The original publication is available at Spingerlink. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11432-010-0096-7 In unattended wireless sensor networks (UWSNs), sensed data are stored locally or at designated nodes and further accessed by authorized collectors on demand. This paradigm is motivated by certain scenarios where historical or digest data (e.g., average temperature in a day), instead of real-time data, are of interest. The data are not instantly forwarded to a central sink upon sensing, thereby saving communication energy for transmission. Such a paradigm can also improve data survivability by m…
Simplified model of mean double step (MDS) in human body movement
2012
In this paper we present a simplified and useful model of the human body movement based on the full gait cycle description, called the Mean Double Step (MDS). It enables the parameterization and simplification of the human movement. Furthermore it allows a description of the gait cycle by providing standardized estimators to transform the gait cycle into a periodical movement process. Moreover the method of simplifying the MDS model and its compression are demonstrated. The simplification is achieved by reducing the number of bars of the spectrum and I or by reducing the number of samples describing the MDS both in terms of reducing their computational burden and their resources for the dat…
Integration of multiple range and intensity image pairs using a volumetric method to create textured three-dimensional models
2001
We present a volumetric approach to three-dimensional (3D) object modeling that differs from previous techniques in that both object texture and geometry are considered in the reconstruc- tion process. The motivation for the research is the simulation of a thermal tire inspection station. Integrating 3D geometry information with two-dimensional thermal images permits the thermal informa- tion to be displayed as a texture map on the tire structure, enhanc- ing analysis capabilities. Additionally, constructing the tire geometry during the inspection process allows the tire to be examined for structural defects that might be missed if the thermal data were textured onto a predefined model. Exp…
Reversible Digital And Holographic Optical Storafe In Polymeric Liquid Crystals (PLC)
1987
A new reversible optical storage technique based on azo dye containing liquid crystalline polymers and copolymers is described. Monodomain films of the polymers were used as storage medium. Digital and holographic information was stored and reconstructed. The stored information can be erased and the writing process is repeatable. The storage process is explained in terms of a transcis isomerization of the mesogen inducing local director field distortions.
Diffusional enhancement of holograms: phenanthrenequinone in polycarbonate
2002
As a further development of the manufacture of holographic gratings by the diffusion of phenanthrenequinone in polymer glass, the traditionally employed poly(methyl methacrylate) is replaced by poly(bisphenol-A-carbonate). The post-exposure growth and decay of the gratings in the two materials are compared at different spatial periods and temperatures. The medium with polycarbonate demonstrates a fortunate combination of significantly improved stability of the gratings and their faster development. Our results indicate that the polycarbonate materials promise to be suitable media for holographic optical elements and data storage.
<title>Multifeature image and video content-based storage and retrieval</title>
1996
In this paper we present most recent evolution of JACOB, a system we developed for image and video content-based storage and retrieval. The system is based on two separate archives: a 'features DB' and a 'raw-data DB'. When a user puts a query, a search is done in the 'features DB'; the selected items are taken form the 'raw-data DB' and shown to the user. Two kinds of sessions are allowed: 'database population' and 'database querying'. During a 'database population' session the user inserts new data into the archive. The input data can consist of digital images or videos. Videos are split into shots and for each shot one or more representative frames are automatically extracted. Shots and …
Migrating from a Centralized Data Warehouse to a Decentralized Data Platform Architecture
2021
To an increasing degree, data is a driving force for digitization, and hence also a key asset for numerous companies. In many businesses, various sources of data exist, which are isolated from one another in different domains, across a heterogeneous application landscape. Well-known centralized solution technologies, such as data warehouses and data lakes, exist to integrate data into one system, but they do not always scale well. Therefore, robust and decentralized ways to manage data can provide the companies with better value give companies a competitive edge over a single central repository. In this paper, we address why and when a monolithic data storage should be decentralized for imp…
Customer Feedback System : Evolution Towards Semantically-enchanced Systems
2015
The digital economy requires services be created in nearly real time – while continuously listening to the customer. Managing and analysing the data collected about products and customers become very critical. Successful companies must collect data regarding customer behaviour in a sensible manner, understand their customers and engage in constant interaction with them. Nowadays, having a huge data storage capacity, everyone collects data and hopes that it will be useful someday. But, it is frustrating when you do not know whether something useful will come out of it. It is not a problem to collect data, but it is very difficult to analyse it. To utilize the data they collect and analyse cu…
