Dubái: estrategias para una posible transición urbana

2020

The article presents the work "Dubai Pop-Up. Architecture in a transient city", the result of an international design workshop (coordinated by T. Aglieri Rinella and R. Garcia Rubio) which brought the Dubai question to the center, bringing together a large number of teachers and students to think how to introduce new ways of thinking about the city. Thanks to the diversified and sometimes surprising hypotheses that the projects developed suggest, it is clear how open the degree of alternatives to that development model only oriented on the “monoculture of profit” that has guided urban choices in this city up to now can still be.

Descriptive problems and numerical thinking: The case of one hundred poultryUnder the methodological framework of the didactic analysis and historical-epistemological analysis a study of the classical descriptive problems that emanate from the “hundred poultry” is presented. A…

RAÍCES MITOLÓGICAS EN LA ICONOGRAFÍA DE LA BELLA DURMIENTE EL CASO DE LA BELLA DURMIENTE DE WALT DISNEY

2020

Sleeping Beauty is a story we can all tell. A cursed princess who pricks herself and falls into a deep sleep until her prince wakes her up. But, like all stories, she has evolved into this form. If we trace its origins, the first time it was put down on paper was in the 13th century. Later, in the 14th century, three more versions were added. In the 17th century Giambattista Basile popularized it, but in that same century Perrault adapted it to his own way and in the 19th century the Brothers Grimm simplified it. Through all these forms there remains an essence, a common narrative, some characteristic elements that allow us to identify this story as the same one. And in them we …

Research on the machining process modeling of a rotational mold using CAM applications

2021

Rotational molding is a unique process, with a high growth rate, which allows the use of geometries and materials adapted to particular needs. It is superior to other manufacturing methods in terms of low cost, break-even point and size of parts that can be manufactured. Rotational molding products are often a substitute, with a lower mass, for traditionally used materials. In this scientific paper it is analyzed the recent literature related to the field of rotational molding processes. It also addresses the issue of processing a rotational mold, with the main purpose of optimizing the cutting regime. In this context, it is highlighted the way of processing the surface of the outer mold ba…

Students’ Perception of Cell Phones Effect on their Academic Performance: A Latvian and a Middle Eastern University Cases

2021

This study is unique in its attempt to combine the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) with external variables and the Information System Continuance Theory, in the context of mobile learning. It extends TAM with the external variables perceived mobility and perceived enjoyment. Mainly, students’ perception of cell phones effect on their academic performance is investigated. The study was conducted at two different universities—in Europe and the Middle East. Cell phone usage is analyzed from the perspective of mobile learning. The data in this study were collected from 103 students from the University of Latvia and 106 students from a Middle Eastern private American University. This study sho…

X-chromosomal retinitis pigmentosa (RP) frequently is caused by mutations in the retinitis pigmentosa GTPase regulator (RPGR) gene. We evaluated the potential of PTC124 (Ataluren, TranslamaTM) treatment to promote ribosomal read-through of premature termination codons (PTC) in RPGR. Expression constructs in HEK293T cells showed that the efficacy of read-through reagents is higher for UGA than UAA PTCs. We identified the novel hemizygous nonsense mutation c.1154T > A, p.Leu385* (NM_000328.3) causing a UAA PTC in RPGR and generated patient-derived fibroblasts. Immunocytochemistry of serum-starved control fibroblasts showed the RPGR protein in a dot-like expression pattern along the primary…

Crisis Communication Competence in Co-Producing Safety with Citizen Groups

2016

The aim of this article is to explore interpersonal communication competence needed by crisis communication and management experts when co-operating with citizen groups in response to emergencies. Moreover, the purpose is to understand how response organizations can further develop this crisis communication competence and so contribute to the functioning of response networks. The research task is approached qualitatively by eliciting crisis communication and management experts’ (n = 33) perceptions of the interpersonal communication competence response organizations needs when co-operating with citizen groups. The data were gathered via an international online questionnaire using a method r…

Data from the GIPEyOP online election poll for the 2015 Spanish General election.

2020

Abstract The general elections of 2015 in Spain took place in the middle of the Great Recession after several years of austerity economic policies. This election caused a political earthquake that shook the Spanish party system. During the campaign of that election, GIPEyOP (Elections and Public Opinion Research Group from University of Valencia) conducted a survey to collect relevant data about the electorate beliefs, intentions and motivations. This article describes the data set attained, which comprises 71 variables after removing, to ensure full anonymity, those variables that would potentially allow respondents to be identified. Respondents answered a self-administered online question…

Unawareness, Priors and Posteriors

2008

Abstract. This note contains first thoughts on awareness of unawareness in a simple dynamic context where a decision situation is repeated over time. The main consequence of increasing awareness is that the model the decision maker uses, and the prior which it contains, becomes richer over time. The decision maker is prepared to this change, and we show that if a projection-consistency axiom is satisfied unawareness does not affect the value of her estimate of a payoff-relevant conditional probability (although it may weaken confidence in such estimate). Probability-zero events however pose a challenge to this axiom, and if that fails, even estimate values will be different if the decision …
