Insegnanti consapevoli e critici dell’azione didattica attraverso l’analisi SWOT
2020
The present contribution aims at collecting the outcomes achieved by 211 subjects, who are going to teach in primary and children’s school, who used the SWOT Analysis as a context investigation tool to plan, implement and evaluate classroom interventions. In particular, this paper analyzes and discusses the effectiveness of a training program for future teachers, attending the 3rd year of university internship, able to strengthen their critical awareness through a functional knowledge of the school environment and of pupils. The pre-experimental research, which covered nine months in the Academic Year 2017-2018, has actually increased the performance of the sample group, consisting of under…
Pressure-Induced Deformation of Pillar-Type Profiled Membranes and Its Effects on Flow and Mass Transfer
2019
In electro-membrane processes, a pressure difference may arise between solutions flowing in alternate channels. This transmembrane pressure (TMP) causes a deformation of the membranes and of the fluid compartments. This, in turn, affects pressure losses and mass transfer rates with respect to undeformed conditions and may result in uneven flow rate and mass flux distributions. These phenomena were analyzed here for round pillar-type profiled membranes by integrated mechanical and fluid dynamics simulations. The analysis involved three steps: (1) A conservatively large value of TMP was imposed, and mechanical simulations were performed to identify the geometry with the minimum pillar density…
Gestión empresarial y dinámica laboral en España
2015
A distributed leadership perspective on the Finnish curriculum reform 2014
2018
Bridging curriculum research with educational leadership, we examined the 2014 Finnish curriculum reform compilation and enactment process through the lens of distributed leadership. As a tool for t...
Students' abilities to evaluate the credibility of online texts: The role of internet‐specific epistemic justifications
2021
Previous evaluation studies have rarely used authentic online texts and investigated upper secondary school students' use of evaluation criteria and deep reasoning. The associations between internet-specific epistemic justifications for knowing and credibility evaluation of online texts are not yet fully understood among adolescents. This study investigated upper secondary school students' (N = 372) abilities to evaluate self-selected authentic online texts and the role of internet-specific epistemic justifications in students' evaluation performance when solving a health-related information problem. Students selected three texts with Google Custom Search Engine and evaluated their credibil…
Development of Network Security Education
2021
Distance education has grown tremendously over the last decade. Internet technologies have enabled a large-scale dispensation of lectures, exercises, and training. Virtual Learning Management Systems (LMSs) offer a number of tools to realize distance education and distance learning. In this work, we present a virtual system architecture for training cyber security professionals with hands-on skills. The architecture is based on a VirtualBox virtualization environment. Guest machines are installed on an instance of VirtualBox. The installed environment offers a safe and isolated workbench for experiments. After installation and configuration of the environment, students perform a number of i…
Learner agency within the design of an EAP course
2015
To meet the demands of today’s society and working life, higher education should support the development of learner agency. How the agency of individual learners emerges in university courses and what kind of agency empowers the learners to face new challenges should be considered. In this article, the focus is on learner agency enabled and expressed on a higher education language course. One learner’s experiences of a blended English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course are explored and used to examine the design of the course. The data reveal that the learner’s views of language-use categories and of herself as a language user emerged as central parts of her agency. Although the learner was…
Attending to and fostering argumentation in whole class discussion
2018
Prior studies highlighted the importance of whole class discussion after student activities and have focused, for example, on teacher moves in supporting discussion. We characterize two processes in teacher-students interaction in argumentation discussions: attending to and fostering. These processes describe how student argumentation feeds teacher talk that in turn feeds student argumentation. We analysed video recordings of one whole class 7th grade lesson when students made geometric constructions and engaged in argumentation discussion. We elaborated on four themes in how the teacher talk attended to and fostered student argumentation. We argue that the concepts of attending to and fost…
The JULIET programme in the University of Jyväskylä : a view from the inside
2016
Finland is well known for its teacher education system. The author is interested in teacher education in Finland, especially the language teacher education. The JULIET Programme is combines teacher education with teaching English in primary schools. The author decided to research teacher education evaluation with the JULIET Programme. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the JULIET Programme. Strengths and weaknesses will be evaluated with the purpose of contributing programme improvements and better experiences for JULIET students. The researcher used the qualitative research method and focused ethnography to conduct the research. Interviews and observation were used for …
‘The Class of My Dreams’ as Envisioned by Student Teachers of English : What Is There to Teach about the Language?
2019
As part of a bigger project on the motivation of future EFL teachers, this chapter sets out to find out what a group of student teachers (N = 67) in Finland thought teaching English would involve once they had graduated from an MA programme and entered the profession a few years later. They were asked to envision ‘An English class of my dreams’ as the final home assignment on one of their first professionally oriented courses. The envisioning was done visually so the students produced pictures (by a variety of means) and provided further details about the class in writing, on the reverse side of the task sheet. The pool of multimodal data collected was subjected to content analysis, and it …
