Analysis of the current State of Enterprise Architecture Evaluation Methods and Practices

2008

First published in the Proceedings of the European Conference on Information Management and Evaluation (ECIME 2007), September 20-21, 2007, Montpellier, France Today, more and more organizations adopt enterprise architecture (EA) processes to cope with the changing environment and to improve their performance and competitiveness. However, the evaluation of EA regarding its quality and benefits is rather difficult. The studies of previous research resulted in the recognition that there is no methodology for enabling the EA evaluation by considering the whole EA. Therefore, this paper presents and analyses the current state of methods and practices to evaluate EA from different viewpoints. Th…

Teaching the Essential Understanding of Creative Writing

2010

In my Master´s thesis I have researched teaching of creative writing for high school students. I have also created the concept called the Essential Understanding of Creative Writing, which I think is the base and the starting point of teaching creative writing. The term is hypothesis and it roughly means the subjectively understood essence of creative work and writing process, as well as the strengthening the inner motivation and author identity by writer. Collaboration seems to support the Essential Understanding of Creative Writing. That is why I have designed the teaching material using collaborative methods like role play and e-learning.

Learning Outcomes of an International Program in Cuba that Offers Undergraduates Opportunities in Authentic Research in Environmental Policy

2018

Short-term study abroad experiences are the most common type of undergraduate study abroad programs in the United States. Despite their prevalence, very few pedagogical frameworks exist that assist faculty in developing and implementing such educational programs. Moreover, and to the best of our knowledge, little empirical research exists on students’ learning outcomes following their participation in a short-term study abroad experience with an integrated, authentic research praxis. To address these potential gaps in the literature, two pedagogical frameworks were used to structure an international embedded program in Cuba which allowed students to engage in authentic research experiences …

Protecting Human Subjects in Internet Research

2005

The growth of the Internet as a research venue has led to practical, legal, and ethical problems regarding the protection of human subjects. Among these are difficulty in verifying subjects’ identities, gaining informed consent, and assuring ethically- correct research. The authors summarize the current standards pertaining to the protection of human subjects in online research and present a set of guidelines for dealing ethically, legally, and practically with the issues of privacy and confidentiality, intellectual property, informed consent, and protection from harm. As computer-mediated communications merge and evolve, as the Internet becomes more and more a part of everyday life, and as…

Estimating Applicability of New Mobile Content Formats to Organizational Use

2003

Innovations on information and communication technology reshape organizational communication. Our ability to estimate applicability of new technologies and content formats to organizational use has been limited to generic quantitative methods at the level of technologies and industries and elaborate qualitative methods targeting specific phenomena at the organizational level. In this paper we estimate quantitatively the applicability of MMS, SMS, XHTML, and XML to organizational use based on an analysis of all communication of an organization unit. We enumerate over 700 communication genres using a genre-based information systems planning method, categorise them with taxonomy of communicati…

The Complexity of Implementing a Guidance Counsellor Education Programme

2009

The Guidance Counsellor has a significant role to play in Irish secondary schools as they provide for the personal, social, educational and vocational development of the young people. At the National Guidance Forum (2007) the ‘Guidance for Life’ report was launched. In this report it suggests areas to improve in Guidance Services. One such suggestion it lists is to, Ensure that people working in guidance are well-trained and supported, with proper quality assurance procedures in place. (2007, p.34) In order the observe such a suggestion an exploration into the efficacy of the University of Limerick graduate diploma in Guidance and Counselling in providing quality graduates to practice as gu…

Towards a Generic Evaluation Model for Enterprise Architecture

2008

First published in the Journal of Enterprise Architecture, Vol. 3, No. 3, 2007, pp. 9-16. Republished with the kind permission of the Journal of Enterprise Architecture During the past few years, enterprise architectures (EAs) have become one of the major interests of both business and information technology (IT) practitioners and academics. It has been suggested that EA is an approach for controlling the complexity and constant changes in the organization’s business environment. Research has mainly focused on the development and modeling of EAs, while the quality aspects of EA have only recently gained attention, especially in the form of EA maturity models. These models have been develope…

The Automated Emotional Music Generator With Emotion and Season Features

2013

Nowadays, there are various types of automated music generating systems to automatically compose music clips instantly; however, those randomly-generated music clips still sounded uncomfortable and discordant. This paper attempts to add with emotion and season features to assist automated music generating systems based on algorithm, and then tries to make all generative music clips sound with harmonious and emotional meaning to listeners. The automated music generator used in this topic is not only based on algorithm but also adopts Thayer’s emotional model as well as four season factors, so all music clips will not only express unique music emotions but also indicate all seasons which may …

Enterprise Architecture Compliance: the Viewpoint of Evaluation

2008

First published in the Proceedings of the European Conference on Information Management and Evaluation (ECIME 2007), September 20-21, 2007, Montpellier, France Enterprise Architecture (EA) provides a holistic view of entire organization, including various viewpoints such as business, information, systems and technology. It is of interest for academics and practitioners alike. It has been suggested that EA is an approach for controlling the complexity and constant changes in the organization and its business environment, assisting organizations in realizing a multitude of positive business impacts. As the organization transforms from the current EA state towards the improved target state thr…
