Developing Online Collaborative Games for e-Learning Environments

2014

Based on our experience, we believe that games, competition and teamwork offer a pleasant and active way of learning. This is much more efficient when the learner has a smile on his face, when he is astonished and curious about next levels and finds the game sufficiently challenging and fun to try again. Our application proposal has the purpose of implementing an e-Learning platform for improving the teaching and learning process in somewhat abstract domains, such as computer architecture or object oriented programming, with the help of games. These games are time-dependent and are able to support collaboration between groups. To this date there are two learning games implemented: a crosswo…

From Classroom to Career in Sibiu Romania – Engineering Students’ Perception on Internships and School Practices

2019

Abstract This article aims to highlight the most important ideas about internships and school practices from students’ point of view. The paper is structured in three parts. In the first section the topic based on building a career in Romania while being a student is discussed along with the employers’ expectations of having experience for getting a job and the problematic of today educational system. Further on the differences between traineeships and internships are detailed according to the Romanian framework and international sources to see exactly what do these mean and which one weights more for a company at the time of interviewing. Taking into the account what has been mentioned a s…

Segmenting the spectators of national team sports: the case of a pre-competition match

2015

It has become common for academics and sports marketing professionals to study and explain the heterogeneity and complexity of sports spectators' behaviours and attitudes, with numerous works addressing this topic But these surveys are more about fans of professional sports clubs (soccer, basketball, baseball, hockey, etc) who attend regular season games in their favourite teams' home stadium or arena. To our knowledge, very few studies have been conducted into spectators of national teams. It is these spectators who are of the focus of this paper.

The Physical Economy of France (1830–2015). The History of a Parasite?

2019

Abstract This article explores long-term trends and patterns of material use in France for a 185-year period. It is the first long-term study of material flows for France with national and yearly data for most of the period. Based on a material flow analysis (MFA) that is fully consistent with current standards of economy-wide MFAs and covers domestic extraction, imports, and exports of materials, we investigated the evolution of the French metabolism from industrialization to financialized capitalism. Over the whole period, there is a 9-fold increase in domestic material consumption, an expansion of material use per capita, and a spectacular addition of abiotic resources (fossil fuels and …

A set of indices to assess the real performance of daylight-linked control systems

2017

Abstract The installation of Building Automation Control Systems (BACs) in general is an effective action to achieve relevant energy savings. Commercial BACs, installed in residential or small offices, often include functions of lighting control, acting as Daylight-Linked Control Systems (DLCSs). Nevertheless, because system performance is strictly dependent on different parameters, BAC’s hardware and software configuration and as well as an inaccurate commissioning do not always allow a perfect execution of the desired tasks; therefore, the system could not work as expected. Moreover, it is well known that energy saving potential is specifically related to the variability of the light envi…

Selective Stepwise Suzuki Cross-Coupling Reaction for the Modelling of Photosynthetic Donor−Acceptor Systems

2009

A Suzuki reaction performed as a selective stepwise substitution of two boryl groups on a diarylporphyrin precursor is reported for straightforward construction of a porphyrin trimer, modeling photosynthetic donor-acceptor systems.

Carbon Monoxide Protects Against Ischemia-reperfusion Injury in Vitro via Antioxidant Properties

2012

Carbon monoxide (CO) is believed to mediate many of the cytoprotective effects attributed to the activation of heme oxygenase (HO-1), the enzyme responsible for CO production. Recently, the study of CO-releasing molecules (CO-RMs) has provided a new approach for the delivery of CO. In the present study, we examined whether the cardioprotective properties of CO-RM2 in isolated rat hearts subjected to an ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) sequence were associated with the presence of CO. In addition, the antioxidant properties of CO-RM2 were evaluated. In hearts pretreated with CO-RM2, the improvement in contractile function at the end of the reperfusion period after 20 min of global total ischemia w…

Three-page encoding and complexity theory for spatial graphs

2004

We construct a series of finitely presented semigroups. The centers of these semigroups encode uniquely up to rigid ambient isotopy in 3-space all non-oriented spatial graphs. This encoding is obtained by using three-page embeddings of graphs into the product of the line with the cone on three points. By exploiting three-page embeddings we introduce the notion of the three-page complexity for spatial graphs. This complexity satisfies the properties of finiteness and additivity under natural operations.
