Digitization and Preservation of Cultural Heritage Products

2017

Cultural heritage encompasses various aspects of a nation's history. Cultural heritage artifacts are considered as priceless items that need special care. Since the wide adoption of new digital technologies, documenting and storing cultural heritage assets became more affordable and reliable. These records are then used in several applications. Researchers saw the opportunity to use digital heritage recordings for long-term preservation. They are considering cultural heritage artifacts as products, and the history behind them as a product lifecycle. In this paper, we present the research progress in cultural heritage digital processing and preservation, highlighting the most impactful advan…

Enterprise Architecture Benefits: Perceptions from Literature and Practice

2008

First published in the Proceedings of the 7th IBIMA Conference Internet & Information Systems in the Digital Age, 14-16 December, 2006, Brescia, Italy Enterprise Architecture (EA) is considered a means for acquiring a multitude of benefits in organizations by most academic literature and practitioners alike. However, academic research has almost omitted the domain of EA benefits and value realization, and thus more research on the subject is needed. This paper describes a study which aims to chart the benefits of EA by a comprehensive literature review and a focus group interview of practitioners. As a result, a categorization of the EA benefits is composed and analyzed.

A Goal-Oriented Way to Define Metrics for an Enterprise Architecture Program

2008

First published in the Journal of Enterprise Architecture, Vol. 4, No. 1, 2008, pp. 20-26. Republished with the kind permission of the Journal of Enterprise Architecture Metrics are becoming more and more important in the development of enterprise architecture (EA) programs. Therefore, guidelines and support to define metrics for EA programs are needed. A goal-oriented approach for defining metrics for EA program and the measurement aspects for EA program are presented in this article. This approach was developed and tested during the development of proposals of EA program metrics for two companies. peerReviewed

A composite indicator for water meter replacement in an urban distribution network

2012

In water supply management, volumetric water meter are typically used to measure users' consumption. With water meters, utilities can collect useful data for billing, assess the water balance of the system, and identify failures in the network, water theft and anomalous user behaviour. Despite their importance, these instruments are characterised by intrinsic errors that cause so-called apparent losses. The complexity of the physical phenomena associated with metering errors in aging water meters does not allow meter replacement to be guided by single parameters, such as the meter age or the total volume passed through the meter. This paper presents a meter replacement strategy based on a c…

Foundations of offshore wind turbines: A review

2019

Abstract Offshore wind is a source of clean, renewable energy of great potential value to the power industry in the context of a low carbon society. Rapid development of offshore wind energy depends on a good understanding of technical issues related to offshore wind turbines, which is spurring ongoing research and development programmes. Foundations of offshore wind turbines present one of the main challenges in offshore wind turbine design. This paper reviews the present state of knowledge concerning geotechnical and structural issues affecting foundation types under consideration for the support structures of offshore wind turbines, and provides recommendations for future research and de…

The metrological characterization of the static meters for reactive energy in the presence of harmonic distortion

2007

For the electricity metering for billing purposes in distribution systems, the static meters are substituting the traditional inductive meters. Thus, the evaluation of the performances of such equipments is required, also in the presence of disturbances affecting the power systems. With respect to this, this paper analyzes the main aspects related to the metrological characterization of the static meters for reactive energy in the presence of harmonic distortion. Particular attention is given to the reference standard meters, that are not considered by the actual in-force Standards. The analysis is supported by several experimental tests.

Static meters for the reactive energy in the presence of harmonics: an experimental metrological characterization

2009

Electricity metering plays a crucial role for all the commercial transactions on the energy market. Thus, an accurate evaluation of the performance of the electricity metering equipment is required not only in the reference operating conditions but also in the presence of disturbances affecting the power systems. As regards this matter, this paper analyzes the main aspects related to the metrological characterization of the static meters for the reactive energy in the presence of harmonic distortion. Attention is focused not only to the meters covered by the current standards but also to the meters of better accuracy and to the reference standard meters. The analysis is supported by several…

A Practical Approach to EA Planning and Development: the EA Management Grid

2004

Enterprise Architecture is gaining interest as a managerial tool for managing corporate ICT assets and their interplay. Our prior studies indicate that an ICT provider’s viewpoint on EA consulting, planning and development seems to be lacking in the proposed methodologies. Considering both literature and practical EA cases, we suggest an approach that supports restricted assignments in EA management. We present an EA Grid for the management of EA descriptions, requirements, constraints, as well as project tasks and deliverables, task preliminaries and dependencies in EA consulting and development. peerReviewed

EA Planning, Development and Management Process for Agile Enterprise Development

2005

In this study, we suggest an enterprise architecture (EA) development process model suitable for EA projects limited in scope and time. Several EA process models have been put forward, which have in common the idea of comprehensive EA management and development that is generic, cyclic and ongoing in a user organization. The suggested models are of varying level of abstraction. It is not simple to select the right issues from them for a restricted development effort. An ICT services provider needs a process model to follow in EA consulting and development projects. This approach is also needed for incremental EA development by user organizations. Starting with the suggested EA process models…
