Piracy versus Netflix : Subscription Video on Demand Dissatisfaction as an Antecedent of Piracy

Drawing from cognitive dissonance and neutralization theories, this study seeks to improve the understanding on consumer decision-making between the current legal and illegal video consumption alternatives. We develop and test a research model featuring Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) satisfaction and various dimensions of SVOD quality as antecedents of video piracy neutralizations and attitudes. Based on results from an online survey among Finnish SVOD users, SVOD satisfaction is primarily determined by content quality, and has a small negative effect on attitude toward piracy through decreased piracy neutralization. Abstract A voting function is a rule that determines the outcome of an election: taking the voters' votes as input, a voting function selects the winning candidate from the set of candidates receiving some vote. A voting function is immune to vote selling when, given that neither voter i nor voter j votes for the winning candidate, a change ceteris paribus in i's vote cannot make the candidate for which j votes the winner. It is shown that voting functions immune to vote selling have either a dictator (a voter who always determines the winning candidate) or a dictated candidate (a candidate who becomes the winner by just receiving some vote).

Effects of Client Pressure and Audit Firm Management Control Systems on Auditor Judgments

We examine the effects of pressures from client management and the audit firm’s own management control systems (MCS) on auditors’ willingness to accept an aggressive accounting that is preferred by client management. We find that auditors perceiving more pressure from client management to accept the client’s aggressive accounting react by increasing the size of the proposed adjustment needed to bring the client’s accounting into conformity with GAAP. Our sample consists of 46 Indonesian stock listed companies, and we use data from recently expanded rules on disclosure to analyze the level and structure of compensation for the CEO - domestically known as the president director. Looking at corporate governance arrangements, firm performance, and CEO characteristics, our empirical evidence reveals a significant positive relationship between firm size and CEO pay. This paper examines the relationship between firm size, firm performance and board composition on CEO compensation, in the context of an emerging and developing economy of Pakistan. Data for 83 listed firms from Lahore stock exchange, Pakistan has been used for 2007 to 2009. The findings show that firm size is one of the major determining factors of CEO compensation rather than performance.
