Development of a fully automated sequential injection solid-phase extraction procedure coupled to liquid chromatography to determine free 2-hydroxy-4…

2010

Abstract 2-Hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone and 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone-5-sulphonic acid, commonly known as benzophenone-3 (BZ3) and benzophenone-4 (BZ4), respectively, are substances widely used as UV filters in cosmetic products in order to absorb UV radiation and protect human skin from direct exposure to the deleterious wavelengths of sunlight. As with other UV filters, there is evidence of their percutaneous absorption. This work describes an analytical method developed to determine trace levels of free BZ3 and BZ4 in human urine. The methodology is based on a solid-phase extraction (SPE) procedure for clean-up and pre-concentration, followed by the monitoring of the UV filters by…

Abstract. Systematic laboratory experiments were performed to investigate quantification of various species with two versions of the Aerodyne Aerosol Mass Spectrometer, a Quadrupole Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (Q-AMS) and a compact Time-of-Flight Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (c-ToF-AMS). Here we present a new method to continuously determine the detection limits of the AMS analyzers during regular measurements, yielding detection limit (DL) information under various measurement conditions. Minimum detection limits range from 0.03 μg m−3 (nitrate, sulfate, and chloride) up to 0.5 μg m−3 (organics) for the Q-AMS. Those of the c-ToF-AMS are found between 0.003 μg m−3 (nitrate, sulfate) and 0.03 μg …

Determination of atranol and chloroatranol in perfumes using simultaneous derivatization and dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction followed by gas…

2013

Abstract A new analytical method based on simultaneous derivatization and dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (DLLME) followed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), for the determination of the allergenic compounds atranol and chloroatranol in perfumes, is presented. Derivatization of the target analytes by means of acetylation with anhydride acetic in carbonate buffer was carried out. Thereby volatility and detectability were increased for improved GC–MS sensitivity. In addition, extractability by DLLME was also enhanced due to a less polar character of the solutes. A liquid–liquid extraction was performed before DLLME to clean up the sample and to obtain an aqueous sample …

Determination of type A trichothecenes by high-performance liquid chromatography with coumarin-3-carbonyl chloride derivatisation and fluorescence de…

2000

A method for the analysis of type A trichothecenes T-2 toxin, HT-2 toxin, neosolaniol and diacetoxyscirpenol by high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection using coumarin-3-carbonyl chloride has been developed. Different parameters concerning the analytical procedure such as stability of both the reagent and derivatised analytes, time and temperature of the derivatisation reaction, were studied and optimised. Three different clean-up procedures (solid-phase extraction with silica gel or C-18 cartridges, and liquid-liquid partition between toluene and dihydrogen phosphate buffer) were tested in order to remove the excess reagent peaks. The last procedure gave the best …

A multicommuted flow system with solenoid micro-pumps for paraquat determination in natural waters.

2007

A flow system designed with solenoid micro-pumps is proposed for the determination of paraquat in natural waters. The procedure involves the reaction of paraquat with dehydroascorbic acid followed by spectrophotometric measurements. The proposed procedure minimizes the main drawbacks related to the standard chromatographic procedure and to flow analysis and manual methods with spectrophotometric detection based on the reaction with sodium dithionite, i.e. high solvent consumption and waste generation and low sampling rate for chromatography and high instability of the reagent in the spectrophotometric procedures. A home-made 10-cm optical-path flow cell was employed for improving sensitivit…

Determination of organophosphorus pesticides in honeybees after solid-phase microextraction.

2001

A method based on solid-phase microextraction (SPME) followed by gas chromatography with nitrogen-phosphorus detection was developed for the purpose of determining 18 organophosphorus pesticide residues in honeybee samples (Apis mellifera). The extraction capacities of polyacrylate and poly(dimethylsiloxane) fibers were compared. The main factors affecting the SPME process, such as the absorption time profile, salt, and temperature, were optimized. The method involved honeybee sample homogenization, elution with an acetone:water solution (1:1) and dilution in water prior to fiber extraction. Moreover, the matrix effect on the extraction was evaluated. In samples spiked at the 0.2 mg kg(-1) …

Optimization of clean-up procedure for patulin determination in apple juice and apple purees by liquid chromatography

2009

Patulin (PAT) is a mycotoxin produced in fruits, mainly in apples, by several fungal species that can be carried into industrial apple juice by-products during factory processing. An analytical method for determination of PAT in apple juice and another one for determination of this compound in apple purees and apple compotes by liquid chromatography are proposed in the present paper. These methods have better precision and sensitivity than previously reported methods and focus mainly on extraction and clean-up. To accomplish analytical methods with higher accuracy, lower limits of detection and simpler procedures for application in quality control of the goods, different extraction and clea…

Development of stir bar sorptive-dispersive microextraction mediated by magnetic nanoparticles and its analytical application to the determination of…

2014

A novel microextraction technique combining the principles of stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) and dispersive micro-solid phase extraction (DμSPE) is presented. The main feature of the method is the use of a neodymium-core stirring bar physically coated with a hydrophobic magnetic nanosorbent. Depending on stirring speed, the magnetic sorbent either acts as a coating material to the stir bar, thus affording extraction alike SBSE, or as a dispersed nanosorbent medium for the collection and extraction of the target analytes, in close analogy to DμSPE. Once the stirring process is finished, the strong magnetic field of the stir bar prevails again and rapidly retrieves the dispersed MNPs. Al…

Evaluation of solid-phase extraction and stir-bar sorptive extraction for the determination of fungicide residues at low-microg kg(-1) levels in grap…

2004

Abstract A liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry method has been developed for determining bitertanol, carboxin, flutriafol, pyrimethanil, tebuconazole and triadimefon. The evaluation of both atmospheric pressure interfaces (API), atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) and electrospray (ESI) using positive and negative ionization modes, clearly shows that the studied pesticides are more sensitive using APCI in positive mode. Two procedures based on solid-phase extraction (SPE) and stir-bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) have been assessed for extracting these compounds in grape. The recoveries obtained by SPE in samples spiked at the limit of quantification (LOQ) level ranged from 60…

Development and Optimization of Pre-Concentration Procedure of Rare-Earth Elements (REEs) in Their Minerals, Using Microwave - Assisted Sample Dissol…

2015

Abstract The aim of this research was to develop and optimize a procedure for determination of REEs in xenotime and monazite samples collected from Bangka Island, which were compared to Standard Monazite (71 AG) of Bureau of Analyzed Samples, London. ICP-OES method was used for the determination. The samples were dried and sterilized by heating for a week at 110 °C, before digesting with nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid, using a microwave-assisted digestion system. After a careful line selection, at the detection limits for all REEs in the ng/mL the REEs were reliably obtained at the 0.09 – 38% level.
