¿Cabe hablar de una «generación de la crisis»? Discusión en torno a una noción sobreexplotada

2018

This article states that nowadays there is an overuse (or a misuse) of the «Generation» idea. The discussion among many authors over the «Generation of crisis» concept suggests that it is useful to outline the characteristics of the target of population of the collective of youth who are mainly affected by the economic and social crisis over the past years. Nevertheless, through analyzing the meanings of the «Generation of Crisis» made by Mannheim, Ortega and other classic authors, it is clear that the social class approach together with the generational one are needed to define this concrete concept. The conclusion of the articleis that both approaches are seen as underpinning their utilit…

Sospensione riproduttiva temporanea: etica delle popolazioni e cambiamento climatico

2012

The article defends a proposal of demographic self-limitation that should be realized by the citizens of industrialized countries as a contribution to the reduction of global emissions, for the benefit of future generations and emerging countries. It will also argue that many of the practical objections to the feasibility of this kind of voluntary choice are surmountable, as are some moral objections raised in the name of reproductive freedom and the value of future lives that would not be lived as a result of this choice.

Cognitive Insight, Clinical Insight, and Reasoning in Schizophrenia : A Pilot Study in a Forensic Setting

2016

This pilot study of 20 chronically ill male inpatients with schizophrenia and a history of violence investigates the relationships between cognitive insight, clinical insight, reasoning, and symptoms in a forensic setting. The majority (75%) of the patients with schizophrenia made hasty decisions based on a small amount of information (the jumping-to-conclusion bias, JTC). In addition, the data suggested that the more information patients gather, the more clinical insight they have and the less distressed they are by their symptoms. However, neither cognitive nor clinical insight were found to be statistically significantly associated with symptoms. The Beck Cognitive Insight Scale (BCIS) s…

About the badness of existence and the prospect of extinction

2021

In this paper I consider the case of people who find The Mere Addition Principle counterintuitive. Their particular intuitions may be understood as instances of The Principle of Intrinsic Disvalue of Existence (PIDA). Following this idea Contractualism seems to be an appropriate method to solve population ethics dilemmas. Still, I show that their rejection of The Mere Addition Principle – if understood as an instance of PIDA – is not enough to avoid these dilemmas and to reach a stable equilibrium among their intuitions. In fact, if their denial of The Mere Addition Principle is grounded on PIDA, the consequences which would follow are likely to be unacceptable for many of them. In particul…

S77. JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS AND FACIAL EMOTION RECOGNITION IMPAIRMENT IN FIRST EPISODE PSYCHOSIS ACROSS EUROPE

2018

Abstract Background Jumping to conclusions (JTC) is a well-established reasoning and data gathering bias found in patients with psychosis even at illness onset (First Episode Psychosis, FEP). Preliminary work in this field focused primarily on the association with delusions, although jumping to conclusions has also been found in non-deluded schizophrenia patients after remission, and in individual with at risk mental state. Moreover, psychotic patients tend to show impairments in social cognition, struggling in identifying, processing and interpreting social clues. Deficits in facial emotion recognition (FER) – a key component of the construct – represent a well-replicated finding in schizo…

Association between climate and new daily diagnoses of COVID-19

2020

AbstractBackgroundAlthough evidence is accumulating that climate conditions may positively or negatively influence the scale of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreaks, uncertainty remains concerning the real impact of climate factors on viral transmission. Methods. The number of new daily cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in Verona (Italy) was retrieved from the official website of Veneto Region, while information on daily weather parameters in the same area was downloaded from IlMeteo website, a renowned Italian technological company specialized in weather forecasts. The search period ranged between March 1 to November 11, 2020. The number of new daily COVID-19 cases and meteorological da…

Derecho de acceso a la información : el desafío de una sociedad guiada por la transparencia en el ordenamiento jurídico español

2021

This study will address the two aspects of rights linked to information, the right to information and the right to information, to end with the formulation of some conclusions that, distancing themselves from a mere summary, seek to encourage doctrinal and political debate on assumptions that, being peacefully settled, should be reformulated in light of the repeated crisis of transparency. For this, it will be articulated by addressing, first, the most significant aspects of the right to information and its link with the right to freedom of expression, as well as the new challenges that these rights face in the digital age, to then analyze the right to information, its regulation in the Spa…

A proposito del silenzio «equivoco» dell’oblato

2017

To determine if a detailed silence of…

Pharmacokinetics in Drug Discovery

2007

The aim of this current review is to summarize the present status of pharmacokinetics in Drug Discovery. The review is structured into four sections. The first section is a general overview of what we understand by pharmacokinetics and the different LADMET aspects: Liberation, Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, and Toxicity. The second section highlights the different computational or in silico approaches to estimate/predict one or several aspects of the pharmacokinetic profile of a discovery lead compound. The third section discusses the most commonly used in vitro methodologies. The fourth and last section examines the various approaches employed towards the pharmacokinetic …
