Emission of coherent THz magnons in an antiferromagnetic insulator triggered by ultrafast spin-phonon interactions

Antiferromagnetic materials have been proposed as new types of narrowband THz spintronic devices owing to their ultrafast spin dynamics. Manipulating coherently their spin dynamics, however, remains a key challenge that is envisioned to be accomplished by spin-orbit torques or direct optical excitations. Here, we demonstrate the combined generation of broadband THz (incoherent) magnons and narrowband (coherent) magnons at 1 THz in low damping thin films of NiO/Pt. Spurious Symmetry Enhancement and Interaction-Induced Topology in Magnons

Linear spin wave theory (LSWT) is the standard technique to compute the spectra of magnetic excitations in quantum materials. In this paper, we show that LSWT, even under ordinary circumstances, may fail to implement the symmetries of the underlying ordered magnetic Hamiltonian leading to spurious degeneracies. In common with pseudo-Goldstone modes in cases of quantum order-by-disorder these degeneracies tend to be lifted by magnon-magnon interactions. We show how, instead, the correct symmetries may be restored at the level of LSWT. Long term memories of developed and emerging markets: using the scaling analysis to characterize their stage of development

The scaling properties encompass in a simple analysis many of the volatility characteristics of financial markets. That is why we use them to probe the different degree of markets development. We empirically study the scaling properties of daily Foreign Exchange rates, Stock Market indices and fixed income instruments by using the generalized Hurst approach. We show that the scaling exponents are associated with characteristics of the specific markets and can be used to differentiate markets in their stage of development. The robustness of the results is tested by both Monte-Carlo studies and a computation of the scaling in the frequency-domain.

Inexpensive discrete atomistic model technique for studying excitations on infinite disordered media: the case of orientational glass ArN$_2$

Excitations of disordered systems such as glasses are of fundamental and practical interest but computationally very expensive to solve. Here we introduce a technique for modeling these excitations in an infinite disordered medium with a reasonable computational cost. The technique relies on a discrete atomic model to simulate the low-energy behavior of an atomic lattice with molecular impurities. The interaction between different atoms is approximated using a spring like interaction based on the Lennard Jones potential but can be easily adapted to other potentials. On the violation of a local form of the Lieb-Oxford bound

In the framework of density-functional theory, several popular density functionals for exchange and correlation have been constructed to satisfy a local form of the Lieb-Oxford bound. In its original global expression, the bound represents a rigorous lower limit for the indirect Coulomb interaction energy. Here we employ exact-exchange calculations for the G2 test set to show that the local form of the bound is violated in an extensive range of both the dimensionless gradient and the average electron density. Hence, the results demonstrate the severity in the usage of the local form of the bound in functional development. On the other hand, our results suggest alternative ways to construct …

Elastic constants and thermodynamical quantities for crystal lattices from many-body perturbation theory

The method of many body Green's functions is used to derive algebraic expressions for the different elastic and thermodynamical quantities such as the free energy, internal energy, entropy, heat capacity, elastic constants (adiabatic and isothermal) and the coefficient of thermal expansion. The perturbation expansion is developed up to third-order and diagrams corresponding to the equations are represented. Delocalized Nature of the E'-delta Center in Amorphous Silicon Dioxide

We report an experimetal study by Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) of E'-delta point defect induced by gamma ray irradiation in amorphous SiO2. We obtained an estimetion of the intensity of the 10 mT doublet characterizing the EPR spectrum of such a defect arising from hyperfine interaction of the unpaired electron with a 29Si (I=1/2) nucleus. Moreover, determining the intensity ratio between this hyperfine doublet and the main resonance line of E'-delta center, we pointed out that unpaired electron wave function of this center is actually delocalized over four nearly equivalent silicon atoms.

Comment on "Critique of the foundations of time-dependent density functional theory" [Phys. Rev.A. 75, 022513 (2007)]

A recent paper (Phys. Rev A. 75, 022513 (2007), arXiv:cond-mat/0602020) challenges exact time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) on several grounds. We explain why these criticisms are either irrelevant or incorrect, and that TDDFT is both formally exact and predictive.
