ABSTRACT The recently developed subgenomic hepatitis C virus (HCV) replicons were limited by the fact that the sequence encoding the structural proteins was missing. Therefore, important information about a possible influence of these proteins on replication and pathogenesis and about the mechanism of virus formation could not be obtained. Biosynthesis of Lipopolysaccharide-Binding Protein in Rabbit Hepatocytes

Studies reported here show that the recently discovered acute-phase protein, lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP), is synthesized by hepatocytes. For these studies, explanted rabbit hepatocytes were grown in the presence of 35S-methionine. Biosynthetically labelled LBP in the cells and supernatant was identified using immunoprecipitation with rat anti-rabbit LBP antibody. This antibody immunoprecipitates both the LBP polypeptide and the glycosylated protein. With a cell-free translation system a comparison of RNA from normal rabbit liver with that isolated from acute-phase rabbit liver indicated that a translatable LBP message is only found in the RNA from acute-phase liver. The histological distinction between ductal hyperplasia of the breast, atypical ductal hyperplasia and ductal carcinoma in situ is difficult and subjective. To gain a better understanding of these lesions, we performed a comparative study comprising 20 cases of ductal hyperplasia without atypia, 20 cases of ductal hyperplasia with atypia, and 30 cases of ductal carcinoma in situ (well-, moderately- and poorly-differentiated), using quantitative techniques: image cytometry analysis, morphometry and DNA analysis, and DNA flow cytometry. Encapsulation of biomolecules using Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) to form stable biocomposites has been demonstrated a valuable strategy for their preservation and controlled release, which has been however restricted to specific electrostatic surface conditions. We present a general in situ strategy that promotes the spontaneous MOF growth onto a broad variety of proteins, for the first time, regardless of their surface nature. Continuous spectrum for a two phase eigenvalue problem with an indefinite and unbounded potential

Abstract We consider a two phase eigenvalue problem driven by the ( p , q ) -Laplacian plus an indefinite and unbounded potential, and Robin boundary condition. Using a modification of the Nehari manifold method, we show that there exists a nontrivial open interval I ⊆ R such that every λ ∈ I is an eigenvalue with positive eigenfunctions. When we impose additional regularity conditions on the potential function and the boundary coefficient, we show that we have smooth eigenfunctions.

Abstract Since time reversibility (TR) is a necessary condition for an independent and identically distributed (iid) sequence, several tests for TR have been suggested to be applied as tests for model misspecification. In this paper, we analyze possible complementarities among two well known TR tests (Ramsey and Rothman's test, and Chen et al.'s test) in two situations: (1) the fitted model is a linear ARMA model when the true data generating process is a nonlinear-in-mean model (either threshold autoregressive or bilinear), and (2) the fitted model is a symmetric GARCH model but the true process belongs to the asymmetric GARCH family (either EGARCH or GJR). Abstract There is wide support in logic, philosophy, and psychology for the hypothesis that the probability of the indicative conditional of natural language, P ( if A then B ) , is the conditional probability of B given A, P ( B | A ) . We identify a conditional which is such that P ( if A then B ) = P ( B | A ) with de Finetti's conditional event, B | A . An objection to making this identification in the past was that it appeared unclear how to form compounds and iterations of conditional events. Over the past two decades, the link between culture, economy and local development has been growing. Film-induced tourism is a phenomenon that has only recently been created, sometimes unintentionally, thanks to television programs or films that have expressed a growing bond between the narrated events and the land or environment. The aim of this paper is to examine the case of a movie tourism proposal relates to film productions out of date, although very important in the past. We discuss the relation between film-induced tourism and the work of Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, with specific reference to some of his films in his beloved island of Fårö.

The possible involvement of salsolinol (Sal), an endogenous condensation product of ACD (the first metabolite of ethanol) and dopamine, in the neurochemical basis underlying ethanol action has been repeatedly suggested although it has not been unequivocally established, still being a controversial matter of debate. The main goal of this review is to evaluate the presumed contribution of Sal to ethanol effects summarizing the reported data since the discovery in the 1970s of Sal formation in vitro during ethanol metabolism until the more recent studies characterizing its behavioral and neurochemical effects.
