The adolescents’ school engagement: Assessment of its dimensions

2016

A topic that in the last years is getting relevance in school and students research is school engagement. This topic has been related, among other important constructs, with burnout of teachers and students, school performance, satisfaction with the school, behavioral disruption, goal orientation and motivational climate in the classroom, students-teachers relationships, and life satisfaction of the students. School engagement may be defined as the participation of the student in academic achievements, and it is understood as a multidimensional construct. The most repeated typology of dimensions recognizes three specific and overlapping dimensions: cognitive, behavioral, and emotional (affe…

Growth and biomass partitioning of Arbutus unedo, Laurus nobilis, Phillyrea angustifolia and Rhamnus alaternus seedlings under water deficit

2013

Water scarcity in the Mediterranean areas is very common and the selection of drought tolerant species is a priority for landscaping purposes in the Mediterranean areas. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of water deficit on growth and biomass partitioning of Arbutus unedo, Laurus nobilis, Phillyrea angustifolia and Rhamnus alaternus. Seventy-two seedlings per species were grown in the greenhouse in 4-liter pots and three water regimes were imposed starting on 6 April and until 9 June, 2010. One-third of the plants was well irrigated to maintain soil water content in the 25-35% range (CTR); a second group of plants was deficit-irrigated to maintain soil water content in …

The relationship of hydraulic conductance to root system characteristics of peach (Prunus persica) rootstocks

2006

Specific rootstocks can differentially influence the vegetative growth and development of fruit trees. However, the physiological mechanism involved in this phenomenon has been elusive. Recent research comparing different peach (Prunus persica L. Batsch) rootstocks suggests that the rootstock effect on vegetative growth in peach trees is associated to water relations and more specifically to differences in rootstock hydraulic conductance. This study was intended to confirm differences in hydraulic characteristics of similar size peach trees grafted on different rootstocks and to examine root system characteristics that could be associated with rootstock hydraulic limitations. Trees on roots…

Key drivers of consumer loyalty to Facebook fan pages

2014

Purpose – With the rapid expansion of social networking sites, researchers and practitioners are challenged to understand drivers of customer loyalty in fan pages. The purpose of this paper is to identify the main drivers of Facebook fan page loyalty in order to promote the creation of affective links and long-term relationships with users. Design/methodology/approach – The impact of trust, fan page content dependency, attitude and consumer beliefs on loyalty to fan pages was tested through structural equation modelling techniques. The sample consisted of 691 Spanish Facebook users. Findings – Data analysis shows that attitude appears as a key variable in increasing loyalty to fan pages. T…

Polyisoprene-carbon black nanocomposites as tensile strain and pressure sensor materials

2004

Abstract Electrically conductive polymer composites (ECPC) are shown as prospective large-size flexible pressure and stretch sensors for detecting of dangerous deformations and vibrations of vehicle parts. Reversible change of resistance dependent on stretch and pressure is obtained in electro-conductive polymer nanocomposites. At certain concentrations of carbon nano-particles a change of electrical resistance by more than four orders is observed at 40% relative stretch. The maximum sensitivity of nanocomposites is observed in the vicinity of the transition of electro-conductive percolation. Nanocomposites exhibit a very weak semiconductor-like temperature dependence of resistance. The ten…

Physicochemical Properties of Copper(II) Bis(2-ethylhexyl) Sulfosuccinate Reversed Micelles

1998

Abstract Measurements of some physicochemical properties (density, viscosity, conductance, UV–vis spectra, IR spectra) of the water/copper(II) bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (Cu(DEHSS) 2 )/CCl 4 microemulsions, at a fixed surfactant molal concentration ([Cu (DEHSS) 2 ] = 0.05003 mol kg −1 ), as function of the molar ratio R ( R = [water]/[DEHSS − ]) have been performed at 25°C. Information on some structural and dynamical properties of the water-containing Cu(DEHSS) 2 reversed micelles and of their evolution with R are derived from the experimental results. The comparison with the same properties of water-containing sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate reversed micelles allows to evide…

Surface charge regulation of functionalized conical nanopore conductance by divalent cations and anions

2019

Abstract The surface charge regulation in nanoscale volumes is a subject of wide interest to biological and chemical soft matter systems. Also, electrolyte mixtures with monovalent and divalent ions are commonplace in practical applications with micro and nanoporous ion-exchange membranes. We have studied experimentally and theoretically the conductance of conical nanopores functionalized with negative and positive surface charges that are bathed by electrolyte mixtures of the monovalent ions K+ and Cl− and the divalent ions Mg2+, Ba2+, Ca2+, and SO42−. Small concentrations of these ions can modulate the nanopore selectivity and conductance because of their interaction with the charged grou…

Nanostructure carbon black-polyisoprene composites as prospective strain sensor materials: macro- and nanoscale studies

2002

Nanostructured carbon black-polyisoprene composite is prepared and investigated. A giant reversible tensoresistive effect -- dependence of electrical resistance vs. uniaxial tension deformation - is found. A new application of the conductive atomic force microscope for the carbon black network mapping in a nonconducting matrix is reported.

Interactions in water-alcohol mixtures: Conductance of lithium picrate in solutions of water and isomeric pentanols at 25C

1982

Conductance measurements of lithium picrate in solutions of water in n-pentanol, 2-pentanol, 3-pentanol, 2-methyl-1-butanol and 3-methyl-1-butanol have been carried out at 25°C. Ionic association and conductance were found to change with water content and with the molecular structure of the alcohols (i.e. position of the OH group and degree of branching of the alkyl chain). These results indicate that both conductance and ion pair formation are not the consequence of the simple motion of ions in the electrical field as required by the continuum model. A more realistic approach, involving the internal structure of the solvent mixtures, has been considered.

Ion pair association in isodielectric mixtures at 25C

1974

Conductance measurements of potassium perchlorate and iodide have been carried out on the following mixtures: methanol-ethylene carbonate, acetone-ethylene carbonate, acetonitrile-ethylene carbonate, sulfolane-ethylene carbonate, isodielectric with water; and in benzene-sulfolane, benzene-acetonitrile, ethanol-sulfolane, isodielectric with methanol. The extent of ionic association at a given concentration in two solvents of the same dielectric constant is greater in the aprotic solvent.
