Inhibition of gluconeogenesis by extracellular ATP in isolated rat hepatocytes.

1991

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of externally added ATP on gluconeogenesis by isolated hepatocytes from starved rats. High concentrations of extracellular ATP inhibited gluconeogenesis from lactate and pyruvate but not from glycerol or fructose. This inhibition was associated with an increase in intracellular adenosine contents. ADP, AMP, or adenosine but not guanosine 5'triphosphate, inosine 5' triphosphate, or adenine also inhibited gluconeogenesis. alpha, beta-Methylene-ATP, a nonmetabolizable structural analogue of ATP, did not affect the rate of gluconeogenesis. Intracellular ATP levels were increased by externally added ATP or adenosine, but ATP-to-ADP ratios in the…

Microscale Marangoni actuation: All-optical and all-electrical methods

2006

We present experimental results from an all-optical microfluidic platform that may be complimented by a thin film all-electrical network. Using these configurations we have studied the microfluidic convective flow systems of silicone oil, glycerol, and 1,3,5-trinitrotoluene on open surfaces through the production of surface tension gradients derived from thermal gradients. We show that sufficient localized thermal variation can be created utilizing surface plasmons and/or engaging individually addressable resistive thermal elements. Both studies manipulate fluids via Marangoni forces, each having their unique exploitable advantages. Surface plasmon excitation in metal foils are the driving …

Two new triterpenoid saponins fromPittosporum senaciaPutterlick (Pittosporaceae)

2012

From the branches of Pittosporum senacia Putterlick (Pittosporaceae), two new triterpenoid saponins, senaciapittosides A and B (1, 2), were isolated. Their structures were elucidated by extensive analysis of one- and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HR-ESIMS) and chemical evidence as 3-O-[β-d-glucopyranosyl-(1  2)]-[α-l-arabinopyranosyl-(1  3)]-[α-l-arabinofuranosyl-(1  4)]-β-d-glucuronopyranosyl oleanolic acid 28-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl ester (1) and 3-O-[β-d-glucopyranosyl-(1  2)]-[α-l-arabinopyranosyl-(1  3)]-[α-l-arabinofuranosyl-(1  4)]-β-d-glucuronopyranosyl-22-O-α-l-arabinopyranosyl-21-acetoxy R1-barrigen…

Whole-Cell Biocatalysis in Seawater: New Halotolerant Yeast Strains for the Regio- and Stereoselectivity Reduction of 1-Phenylpropane-1,2-Dione in Sa…

2020

The application of green chemistry concepts in catalysis has considerably increased in recent years, and the interest in using sustainable solvents in the chemical industry is growing. One of the recent proposals to fall in line with this is to employ seawater as a solvent in biocatalytic processes. This involves selecting halotolerant strains capable of carrying out chemical conversions in the presence of the salt concentrations found in this solution. Recent studies by our group have revealed the interest in using strains belonging to Debaryomyces and Schwanniomyces for catalytic processes run in this medium. In the present work, we select other yeasts based on their halotolerance to wide…
