Micro‐tomographic characterization of composite recycled glass‐silicone foams for applications in civil engineering

2019

Noninvasive X‐ray micro‐computed tomography was applied for a complete quantitative and qualitative analysis of the cellular structure of composite foams constituted by a silicone matrix and a glass production waste filler. Composite foams with different glass filler weight content in the range 0–80% were synthesized and characterized. The tomographic analysis was employed in order to assess the structural heterogeneities, void fraction values, and bubble size distribution for all composite foams. The 3D micro‐CT images analysis, performed at different cross‐sections, highlighted heterogeneous cell growth or more elongated cells in the case of low and high filler content foams, respectively…

Fracture strength of endodontically treated lateral incisors restored with new zirconia reinforced rice husk nanohybrid composite

2020

Background This study aimed to compare the fracture strength, fracture pattern and type of fracture of endodontically treated maxillary lateral incisors restored with new zirconia reinforced rice husk nanohybrid composite. Material and Methods Eighty mature permanent maxillary lateral incisors from patients age range of 30-60 years with single canal were selected and randomly divided into: Group 1 – RCT + nanofilled composite (Filtek), Group 2 – RCT + microhybrid composite (Zmack), Group 3 – RCT + new nanohybrid composite (Zr-Hybrid) and Group 4 - Intact teeth (control). Standardized mesio-palatal-distal cavity was prepared, and endodontic treatment was carried out using crown-down techniqu…

Electrochemical tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) characterisation using contact probe in situ voltammetr

2015

[EN] An in situ electrochemical contact probe methodology for characterising tomato samples is proposed. It is based on the record of the voltammetric response of antioxidant compounds when glassy carbon electrodes are inserted into the pericarp of fresh tomato specimens cut in half. The absence of pretreatment and in situ sampling avoid sample contamination and the oxidation of air-sensitive compounds thus increasing the representativity of the analytical data relative to conventional electrochemical analysis. Characteristic voltammetric responses recorded for such compounds, including rutin, chlorogenic acid, naringenin, naringenin chalcone and ascorbic acid have been obtained. A positive…

A Literary Fascination with China: Three Contemporary Novels by 'Foreign' Writers.

2019

The paper is about a contemporary tendency among writers from non-Chinese countries to write novels that present deep connections with China. The authors taken into consideration are from Australia: Nicholas Jose and Gail Jones, and from Italy: Isaia Iannaccone.

Threshold pion photoproduction in a light-cone quark model

1991

Abstract The instantaneous and seagull graphs are calculated for pion photoproduction in a relativistic light-cone model of the nucleon. In both pseudoscalar and pseudovector coupling we find the ratios A (−) : A (0) : A (+) = 1: ( −1 2 μ):( −9 5 μ) in the nonrelativistic limit. These results correspond to the sum of seagull and Z -graph in the nonrelativistic quark model. In pseudovector coupling also the numerical results for realistic-model parameters are close to those values.

Some common fixed point results for weakly compatible mappings in cone metric type space

2013

In this paper we consider cone metric type spaces which are introduced as a generalization of symmetric and metric spaces by Khamsi and Hussain in 2010. Then we prove several common fixed point for weakly compatible mappings in cone metric type spaces. All results are proved in the settings of a solid cone, without the assumption of continuity of the mappings.

3D atlas describing the ontogenic evolution of the primary olfactory projections in the olfactory bulb of Xenopus laevis.

2005

The adult Xenopus presents the unique capability to smell odors both in water and air thanks to two different olfactory pathways. Nevertheless, the tadpole can initially perceive only water-borne odorants, as the olfactory receptor neurons (ORN) that will detect air-borne odorants develop later. Such a phenomenon requires major reorganization processes. Here we focused on the precise description of the neuroanatomical modifications occurring in the olfactory bulb (OB) of the tadpole throughout metamorphosis. Using both carbocyanine dyes and lectin staining, we investigated the evolution of ORN projection patterns into the OB from Stages 47 to 66, thus covering the period of time when all th…

MicroRNAs and their role in the malignant transformation of oral leukoplakia: a scoping review

2021

Background MiRNAs are small non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level and have been associated with malignant transformation of oral epithelial precursor lesions such as oral leukoplakia. The aim was to perform a scoping review of the contemporary literature about the different roles of miRNAs during the malignant transformation of oral leukoplakia. Material and Methods We conducted a systematic search with the following MeSH terms: ‘oral leukoplakia’, ‘carcinoma in situ’, ‘microRNAs’, ‘mouth neoplasms’ and ‘epithelial–mesenchymal transition’ in PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE and SpringerLink. Results Fifteen articles were included for analysis, among which in …
