Antibacterial Activity of Flavonoids Against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains

An experimental and theoretical study was performed on the anti-staphylococcal activity of 18 natural and synthetic flavonoids against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains. The analysed flavonoids belong to three well-differentiated structural patterns: chalcones, flavanones and flavones. The quantitative analysis of the anti-staphylococcal activity of the compounds was carried out by determining their percent inhibition degree. The hierarchical cluster analysis method was used to analyse the anti-MRSA activity of the compounds. Five new compounds, 4-O-geranylisoliquiritigenin (1), 12-dihydrousararotenoid B (2), 12-dihydrousararotenoid C (3), 4'-O-geranyl-7-hydroxyflavanone (4), and 4'-O-geranyl-7-hydroxydihydroflavanol (5), along with 12 known natural products (6-17) were isolated from the CH2Cl2/MeOH (1:1) extract of the root bark of Millettia usaramensis ssp. usaramensis by chromatographic separation. The process consists of three consecutive steps in which cisoid enone conformations of 7a react in regio- and stereoselective anti-head-to-head cycloadditions. (E,E,E)-1,3,5-Tris(3-oxo-3-phenylpropenyl)benzene (13a), an isomer of 7 with reversed enone units, shows a single [2π+2π] cycloaddition of the same type. Due to steric reasons, it is afterwards not capable of intramolecular processes and oligomerizes by intermolecular photocycloadditions. Abstract 3-Methylhex-1-yne-3-ol has been oligomerised by use of Pd(II) acetylacetonate with 31 different phosphorus ligands as catalyst, yielding a dimer (2,4-disubstituted but-1-en-3-yne) and a linear trimer (1,4,6-trisubstituted hexa-1,3-dien-5-yne) as the two main products. By input-output relations a variation of the diketonate and the P ligand, as weil as an alteration of the phosphorus/palladium ratio, has been connected with product ratios as dependent variables. Existence, nonexistence and uniqueness of positive solutions for nonlinear eigenvalue problems

We study the existence of positive solutions for perturbations of the classical eigenvalue problem for the Dirichlet $p-$Laplacian. We consider three cases. In the first the perturbation is $(p-1)-$sublinear near $+\infty$, while in the second the perturbation is $(p-1)-$superlinear near $+\infty$ and in the third we do not require asymptotic condition at $+\infty$. Using variational methods together with truncation and comparison techniques, we show that for $\lambda\in (0, \widehat{\lambda}_1)$ -$\lambda>0$ is the parameter and $\widehat{\lambda}_1$ being the principal eigenvalue of $\left(-\Delta_p, W^{1, p}_0(\Omega)\right)$ -we have positive solutions, while for $\lambda\geq \widehat{\…

This paper discusses the existence of single-wall carbon nanocones (SWNCs), especially nanohorns (SWNHs), in organic solvents in the form of clusters. A theory is developed based on a bundlet model describing their distribution function by size. Phenomena have a unified explanation in bundlet model in which free energy of an SWNC, involved in a cluster, is combined from two components: a volume one, proportional to number of molecules n in a cluster, and a surface one proportional to n1/2. Abstract In this paper we obtain fixed point and common fixed point theorems for self-mappings defined on a metric-type space, an ordered metric-type space or a normal cone metric space. Moreover, some examples and an application to integral equations are given to illustrate the usability of the obtained results.
