Style and Values – a Case Study of Theologian’s Lectures
2018
The aim of the paper is to analyse the stylistic methods Krzysztof Grzywocz uses in talking about values in his lectures published in the book W duchu i przyjaźni [In spirit and friendship]. It is the whole book, six hundred pages of his collected works, but in particular the one-hundred-page long chapter entitled “The Value of a Human Being”, which is the focus of this paper. The multilayer and interdisciplinary approach to values could be observed in those texts. The author was a theologian, psychotherapist, exorcist and aesthetician, a man who appreciated literature, art, and beauties of everyday life. He was both a theoretician and practitioner of axiology. He answers the questions what…

International negotiations in the context of the evolution of international relations: theoretical assumptions and observations
2015
The article considers the importance of international negotiations in the context of changes that have been occurring in international relations, especially after the First World War. The article is divided into four sections that show qualitative changes in the international negotiations in the context of changes which indicate progress in the development and deepening of international relations. Transmission delay in technology-mediated interaction at work
2015
This paper investigates transmission delay in technology-mediated interaction from a participant’s perspective. The approach chosen here contrasts with previous studies of delay: only what is seen, heard and done at one end (i.e., what is available on screen) is considered in the analysis. It is argued that participants themselves lack access to the other sides of their interactions as they unfold at remote locations, and they thus cannot observe and deal with delay from an outside perspective. Analyzing single cases of delay-ininteraction within the framework of conversation analysis, the focus is on dispersed conversation partners’ resources to detect a problem, and to make visible and re…
E-Sports y brecha de género: la percepción de las profesionales españolas
2019
The present paper aims to identify the causes of under-representation of women in E-sports. According to a genre perspective, interest in videogames at the amateur level is quite similar. However, in its professional level, female participation becomes very limited. The fact that physical effort is irrelevant (a requirement for ?traditional sports?) could be considered a variable that would negatively affect greater to equality in the conditions of access and participation of women in electronic sports. Against any predictions, the data on the presence of women are elocuent: few women, with much lower wages than men to remunerate same skills, and a general complaint by the female profession…
“Hopefully nähdään” : North American Finnish language learners building community through virtual conversation hours
2020
In the Finnish Studies Programs at two North-American universities, Finnish language students have collaborated online and participated in informal virtual conversational coffee hour meetings. These meetings are offered to complement students’ collaboration conducted during regular language classes. This article investigates what students talk about when they meet each other virtually and how they build a shared sense of community during these meetings. nonPeerReviewed
Structural Equation Modeling in Research on Brand Capital in Higher Education
2016
This research is done in order to examine the role of the brand capital in higher education. For this purpose, we analyze the main contributions of the literature related to the study of the brand capital and its application in the educational sector, identifying which variables determine the brand capital in the higher education sector. Once we establish the susceptible brand capital in the higher education sector, an empirical research is done by using a questionnaire developed in Spanish language with a Likert scale of grade 5 in which 1 point means "strongly disagree" and 5 mean "strongly agree", being based on the measurement scales…
Innovative Approaches for Organizing an Inclusive Optics and Photonics Conference in Virtual Format
2023
The COVID pandemic is forcing the renewal of scientific conferences, offering opportunities to introduce technological and inclusive developments. Our analysis focuses on the implementation of inclusive practices for female and early-career researchers in a virtual scientific conference. This organization approach was applied in the XIII Spanish Optical Meeting (RNO2021), which was also characterized by avatars interacting in an online metaverse. The effectiveness of inclusive policies and novel technological tools was evaluated using the participation data and a post-conference survey. Our study reveals the high impact of inclusive actions and a strong interest in the scientific community …
