Purpose: To describe the mood profile of an America’s Cup sailing team during competition and to evaluate the influence of previous injuries occurrence and intensity of physical work on the boat upon mood state. Relationships between mood domains and metabolic markers of muscle damage were also investigated. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted on an America’s Cup yachting race crew comprising 21 male sailors (mean T SD; age = 27.6 T 8.5 yr, weight = 89.3 T 24.9 kg, BMI = 26.5 T 6.9 kgImj2). Restoration of out-of-focus images based on circle of confusion estimate

In this paper a new method for a fast out-of-focus blur estimation and restoration is proposed. It is suitable for CFA (Color Filter Array) images acquired by typical CCD/CMOS sensor. The method is based on the analysis of a single image and consists of two steps: 1) out-of-focus blur estimation via Bayer pattern analysis; 2) image restoration. Blur estimation is based on a block-wise edge detection technique. This edge detection is carried out on the green pixels of the CFA sensor image also called Bayer pattern. Abstract We present a simple but effective method based on Luce’s choice axiom [Luce, R.D. (1959). Individual choice behavior: A theoretical analysis. New York: John Wiley & Sons] for consistent estimation of the pairwise confusabilities of items in a multiple-choice recognition task with arbitrarily chosen choice-sets. The method combines the exact (non-asymptotic) Bayesian way of assessing uncertainty with the unbiasedness emphasized in the classical frequentist approach. Statistical classification and proportion estimation - an application to a macroinvertebrate image database

We apply and compare a random Bayes forest classifier and three traditional classification methods to a dataset of complex benthic macroinvertebrate images of known taxonomical identity. Since in biomonitoring changes in benthic macroinvertebrate taxa proportions correspond to changes in water quality, their correct estimation is pivotal. As classification errors are passed on to the allocated proportions, we explore a correction method known as a confusion matrix correction. Over the course of many years, as a teacher, scholar, and friend, Ruth Zimmerling has impressed on me the importance of precisely defining one’s concepts. After all, if there is no agreement on the intension and extension of a concept, it is impossible “to assess the truth or falsity or, more generally, the correctness or incorrectness, of propositions, hypotheses or theories” (Zimmerling 2005: 15). The statement is almost self-evident: Without precisely defined concepts, the whole endeavour of science becomes pointless, and scholarly discourses are bound to turn into dialogues of the deaf.

This has led to a certain degree of confusion and inconsistency between competing notions of emotions, data, and results. The present review of 251 studies describes the focus of prevalent research approaches, methods, and models of emotion, and documents the types of musical stimuli used over the past twenty years.
