Age-related accumulation of congophilic fibrillar inclusions in endocrine cells

Intracellular fibrillar congophilic inclusions are well known as neurofibrillary tangles in neurons and as Biondi bodies in choroid plexus epithelial cells. Recently similar amyloid-like inclusions in adrenal cortical cells were described (Eriksson and Westermark 1990). This study on 150 adrenal glands confirms these observations. In our material the age-related accumulation of congophilic inclusions starts earlier (in the sixth decade) and reaches a higher incidence (42.7%). We found similar intracellular inclusions in other endocrine organs, for example in the anterior lobe of the pituitary, in the cells of parathyroid glands and in Sertoli cells. The Alzheimer's amyloid-beta (Abeta) peptide exists as a number of naturally occurring forms due to differential proteolytic processing of its precursor molecule. Many of the Abeta peptides of different lengths form fibrils in vitro, which often show polymorphisms in the fibril structure. This study presents a TEM based analysis of fibril formation by eighteen different Abeta peptides ranging in length from 5 to 43 amino acids. Characterization and determination of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) by complexation with an anionic azo-dye and nonequilibrium capillary electrophoresis

Using capillary zone electrophoresis in nonequilibrium conditions, the complexes of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) with anionic azo-dyes dissociate following a first-order kinetics. Two peaks due to the remaining PVP-dye complexes and the equilibrium concentration of the free dye, plus an exponential region due to the dye liberated by the complexes during the electrophoretic run, are obtained. Background: In this cross-sectional, international study, we aimed to analyze vector-borne and zoonotic infections (VBZI), which are significant global threats. Method: VBZIs’ data between May 20–28, 2018 was collected. The 24 Participatingcountries were classified as lower-middle, upper-middle, and high-income. Results: 382 patients were included. 175(45.8%) were hospitalized, most commonly in Croatia, Egypt, and Romania(P = 0.001). There was a significant difference between distributions of VBZIs according to geographical regions(P < 0.001). Stabilization of Polar Step Edges on Calcite (10.4) by the Adsorption of Congo Red

In this work, we present the stabilization of polar step edges along the [010] direction of calcite (10.4) by the presence of a water-soluble organic molecule, namely Congo Red. While characteristic etch pits are observed on the surface in the absence of the additive, no etch pits can be found in the presence of the additive. Using atomic force microscopy, we can directly follow the restructuring of the surface. Non-equilibrium capillary electrophoresis of equilibrium mixtures (NECEEM) has been used to characterize polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Commercial PVA samples with different molecular masses, from M(w)=15 up to 205 kDa, were used. According to the (13)C NMR spectra, the samples also differed in tacticity (stereoregularity). Mixtures of PVA and the anionic azo-dye Congo Red (CR) were injected in the presence of a borate buffer.
