Palaeontological Virtual Congress: A new way to make science

On the first month of 2018, one of the authors (VDC) of this preface had an interesting idea: to hold a virtual congress. At first, he did not know of the existence of this kind of congress, but a quick internet search showed him that there were some examples in the fields of medicine and veterinary medicine; however, it had never been done in palaeontology. Mimo trudnej sytuacji gospodarczej mieszkańców powiatu wieluńskiego w II Rzeczypospolitej i związanej z nią konieczności emigrowania głównie do Niemiec w celach zarobkowych charakteryzowali się oni głęboką religijnością. Wielokrotnie bp Teodor Kubina podkreślał to w swoich wypowiedziach. Wpłynęło to na zorganizowanie w dniach 27–29 czerwca 1931 r. w Wieluniu Kongresu Eucharystycznego, który był trzecim w kolejności w diecezji częstochowskiej. Activities requiring human gatherings have either been postponed, canceled, or held completely virtually. The development of international health from a historical point of view has undergone major advances in recent times and constitutes a substantial part of the current agenda for historians of medicine. Within this framework, and focussing on a specific case study (international responses to poliomyelitis outbreaks in the 20th century), we explore the main actions and achievements of agencies such as the WHO and other private and international scientific organizations. Furthermore, this paper seeks to identify the Spanish presence and absence in these activities, their causes and consequences.
