Posets That Locally Resemble Distributive Lattices

Abstract Let P be a graded poset with 0 and 1 and rank at least 3. Assume that every rank 3 interval is a distributive lattice and that, for every interval of rank at least 4, the interval minus its endpoints is connected. It is shown that P is a distributive lattice, thus resolving an issue raised by Stanley. Similar theorems are proven for semimodular, modular, and complemented modular lattices. As a corollary, a theorem of Stanley for Boolean lattices is obtained, as well as a theorem of Grabiner (conjectured by Stanley) for products of chains. Applications to incidence geometry and connections with the theory of buildings are discussed.

Mood congruence effect in explicit and implicit memory tasks: a comparison between depressed patients, schizophrenic patients and controls

Summary This study investigates mood congruence effect in explicit and implicit memory tasks in 23 inpatients fulfilling DSM-III-R criteria for major depressive disorder. Performances were compared to those of 15 in- or outpatients fulfilling DSM-III-R criteria for schizophrenia, and 37 normal subjects serving as euthymics controls. All subjects were submitted to a standard cued recall test and to a word stem completion test devised to assess the effect of the initial presentation without the explicit retrieval of the words being necessary. The role of career values for work engagement during the transition to working life

Abstract The present longitudinal study examined the role of career values for work engagement across the transition from university education to working life. Finnish young adults reported on their career values (intrinsic, rewards, and security values) at the age of 23; and the degree of person–organization fit (value congruence, and congruence between one's education and the job), subjective income and economic stress two years later at the age of 25. Abstract Background The cognitive interpersonal model predicts that parental caregiving style will impact on the rate of improvement of anorexia nervosa symptoms. Deduction theorems within RM and its extensions

AbstractIn [13], M. Tokarz specified some infinite family of consequence operations among all ones associated with the relevant logic RM or with the extensions of RM and proved that each of them admits a deduction theorem scheme. In this paper, we show that the family is complete in a sense that if C is a consequence operation with CRM ≤ C and C admits a deduction theorem scheme, then C is equal to a consequence operation specified in [13]. In algebraic terms, this means that the only quasivarieties of Sugihara algebras with the relative congruence extension property are the quasivarieties corresponding, via the algebraization process, to the consequence operations specified in [13].
