Relationship between structure and electroluminescence of oligo(p-phenylenevinylene)s

1998

The preparation of LEDs with poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) as emitting material is well established, However, due to the presence of a distribution of conjugated chain lengths in the polymer, systematic investigations of the electroluminescence with polymeric materials are difficult, as far as the optical emission is concerned. We are studying the relationship between structural variation of substituted oligo(p-phenylenevinylene)s and their electroluminescent behaviour using a series of distyrylbenzenes with a variety of substituents in order to investigate their influence on the electroluminescence (EL). Furthermore, we synthesized a homologous series of monodisperse oligo(2,5-dipropoxy-…

Polymerization of mono- and multilayer forming diacetylenes

1977

Heptadeca-2,4-diine-1-ol and Heptadeca-2,4-diine-1-acid were synthesized and their polymerization behaviour in the solid state was investigated. Both compounds polymerize thermally below the melting point and photochemically under the action of uv-light to form polymers via 1,4-addition to the conjugated triple bonds with a backbone of conjugated double-and triple-bonds. The photoresponse spectra resemble the absorption spectra exhibiting maxima of photoreactivity in the absorption band of the conjugated triple bonds of the monomers.

Some monomers, oligomers and polymers with conjugated triple bonds

1991

In the first part new monoaminodiacetylenes with different numbers of CH2-groups, the formation of Perowskit-type Mn complexes and their polymerizability are described. Symmetrical diaminodiacetylenes and some derivatives therefrom have also been prepared. The second part deals with different types of polymers with diacetylene units in the backbone. Under irradiation color formation and crosslinking take place. Well-defined low molecular weight model compounds of polydiacetylenes is the subject of the third part. Finally rod-like but soluble polymers with alternating p-phenylene and acetylene units are described.

Theoretical Design of Organic Metals Based on the Phthalocyanine Macrocycle

1990

Phthalocyanine molecular crystals and cofacially linked polymers are well documented as low-dimensional materials that may attain high electrical conductivities. Air-stable conductivities on the order of 1 to 1000 S/cm after partial oxidation by iodine have been reported.1–3 These conductivity studies indicate that the electrical conductivity has very little dependence on the identity of the atom complexed in the cavity, but is strongly dependent on the orientation and spacing of the phthalocyanine rings. A columnar stacking with minimum spacing leads to a maximum interaction between π-molecular orbitals on adjacent rings and promotes the highest conductivity. More effective π-interactions …

“Click” on PLGA-PEG and hyaluronic acid: Gaining access to anti-leishmanial pentamidine bioconjugates

2017

Pentamidine (Pent), an antiparasitic drug used for the treatment of visceral leishmaniasis, has been modified with terminal azide groups and conjugated to two different polymer backbones (PLGA-PEG [PP] copolymer and hyaluronic acid [HA]) armed with alkyne end-groups. The conjugation has been performed by Copper Catalyzed Azido Alkyne Cycloaddition (CuAAC) using CuSO4 /sodium ascorbate as metal source. The novel PP-Pent and HA-Pent bioconjugates are proposed, respectively, as non-targeted and targeted drug delivery systems against Leishmania infections. Moreover, Pent has been encapsulated into PP nanoparticles by the oil-in-water emulsion method, with the aim to compare the biological activ…

Carbon nitride as photocatalyst in organic selective transformations

2020

Abstract Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is a metal-free conjugated polymer which has become a new research hotspot in photocatalysis. It can be used for solar energy exploitation like in solar energy organic synthesis, one of the most new and appealing green applications of heterogeneous photocatalysis. This chapter resumes the state-of-the-art and progresses in the application of heterogeneous visible light photocatalysis in organic selective transformations by using C3N4 as photocatalyst.

Excitons and nonlinear optical spectra in conjugated polymers.

1992

Excitons in conjugated polymers are studied theoretically in the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model supplemented by long-range Coulomb interactions. The relationship between exciton energies and basic interaction parameters is clarified. Linear and third-order nonlinear optical susceptibilities (two-photon absorption, electroabsorption, and third-harmonic generation) have been calculated, elucidating the significance of singlet and triplet excitons and unbound electron-hole pairs. Using only moderate interaction strength, various experiments in polydiacetylene can be interpreted in a consistent way

Living Light-Induced Crystallization-Driven Self-Assembly for Rapid Preparation of Semiconducting Nanofibers.

2018

Well-defined nanostructures composed of conjugated polymers have attracted significant attention due to their intriguing electronic and optical properties. However, precise control of the size and uniformity of these semiconducting nanostructures is still rare and challenging, despite recent advances in strategies to obtain self-assembled nanostructures with narrow dispersions. Herein, we demonstrate the preparation of fluorescent conjugated block copolymers by one-shot polymerization and rapid formation of nanofibers in a few minutes via light-induced crystallization-driven self-assembly, driven by facile cis-to- trans photoisomerization of its poly( p-phenylenevinylene) blocks. Furthermor…

Photoluminescence ZnO nanorod biosensors for medical and food safety applications

2017

Photoluminescence (PL) ZnO nanorods (NR) are prospect materials for biosensor applications. They can be deposited on solid state substrates and/or dispersed in liquid media. ZnO NRs demonstrate strong UV emission (3.28–3.3 eV), which depends on surface charge, formed by adsorbed molecules. In the present work we report on ZnO NRs, deposited on glass slides, used as biosensor templates for detection food pathogens. Change of ZnO PL after interaction with biomolecules was recorded. Dependence of PL intensity vs concentration of biomolecules was obtained. In the second part, ZnO nanorods were used as PL biomarkers. A suspension of ZnO NRs, conjugated with SSEA-4 antibodies (aSSEA-4) in PBS buf…

Tetra-alkoxy substituted PPV derivatives: a new class of highly soluble liquid crystalline conjugated polymers

2011

Two first examples of highly soluble tetra-alkoxy substituted PPV derivatives, poly(2,3,5,6-tetrahexyloxy-1,4-phenylene vinylene) (TH-PPV) and poly[2,3,5,6-tetra(2'-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene] TEH-PPV, are presented. Both polymers have been fully characterized and the solubility and UV-Vis absorption characteristics have been studied in various organic solvents. Due to the symmetric nature of the repeating unit, TH-PPV and TEH-PPV have an inherently regioregular nature, which is unusual for PPV-type polymers. Observations from polarized light microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry indicate that TH-PPV exhibits thermally induced order resulting in a liquid crystalline m…
