Maģistra darbs ir uzrakstīts 60 lappusēs angļu valodā. Tas satur 23 attēlus, 45 informācijas avotus un 9 pielikumus. Mērķis: šī pētījuma mērķis ir noskaidrot, kādas acu izmaiņas ir notikušas vienu nedēļu pēc daļēji noturīgo skropstu pieaudzēšanas. Metodes: septiņiem pētījuma dalībniekiem tika četras reizes novērtētas konjunktīvas izmaiņas, asaru apjoma izmaiņas un alerģijas rādītājs, izmantojot arī subjektīvas anketas. Rezultāti: visiem šī pētījuma dalībniekiem bija daži ar daļēji noturīgu skropstu pieaudzēšanu saistīti acu simptomi, vairumam dalībnieku bija konjunktīvas apsārtums dažādos līmeņos, un daudziem bija asaru apjoma izmaiņas. International audience; Purpose:: Tear film lipid composition is modified in patients suffering from chronic blepharitis. We previously found that branched chain fatty acids (BCFA) were significantly increased in tears of these patients, suggesting that BCFA may be involved in the disease. The toxicity of different BCFA as potent inducers of apoptosis has already been established in various cell lines but not in the conjunctiva. Bacterial Contamination of Anterior Chamber Fluid Following Non-complicated Cataract Surgery

Objective: To study the anterior chamber contamination during non-complicated cataract surgery and its relationship with normal conjuctival organisms. Setting: Ophthalmology Department, La Fe Hospital, University of Valencia. Patients: Forty patients who had undergone cataract extraction using either ECCE, phacoemulsification or nucleus fracture methods. Results: Positive cultures of aqueous humour were obtained in 32.5% of cases. The most commonly isolated organism was Staphylococcus coagulase-negative. Only in 7.7% of cases was the microorganism found in the conjunctiva the same as that found in the anterior chamber. The inoculum size ranged between 20 and 160 colonies/ml. One of the case…
Retained pieces of wood in the retromaxillary space: a case report.

Detection and operative removal of wood as a foreign body in the cranio-maxillary area has received frequent attention in the literature. However, as a rule, most of the cases described are related to the orbit or the orbito-neurocranial space. Almost no literature exists on the detection and treatment of wooden foreign bodies in the retromaxillary space. The authors present an unusual case of long-term retained wood in this area in a child. The case inspires discussion of the general problem of detecting retained retromaxillary wood, even using modern diagnostic tools in this area and the question of the operative therapy, especially the most favourable surgical access.

This work aimed to evaluate whether a dietary deficiency in omega-3 PUFAs may increase the severity of dry eye in a scopolamine-induced rat model. Methods:Three consecutive generations of Lewis rats were bred under diets deprived of omega-3 PUFAs.
