A relevância ética da contemplação estética

2012

Schopenhauer organized his philosophy of the world as will and representationsystematically, dividing the work into four sections. The unity of the essence of the worldarises in different ways, according to the four books of the main work, by means of ournatural volitional and purposive cognition (book 1), the recognition of the “objectity” of thewill, experienced on the own body (book 2), the possibility of ideal cognition, freed fromthe will, in aesthetic contemplation (book 3) up to the understanding (“Durchschauung”)of the principium individuationis: the self-knowledge of the will (book 4). In this article, the theory of aesthetic contemplation is regarded as a philosophy of consciousnes…

The development of reflective learning in the context of health counselling and health promotion during nurse education Aims and background. The purpose of this follow-up study was to describe the development of reflective learning of 16 student nurses in the context of health counselling and promotion during clinical training of a 3-year nursing education programme in two Finnish polytechnics. The first aim was to analyse the levels of reflectivity in the student nurses’ reflections on their videotaped counselling situations. The second aim was to explore the qualitative features of the reflective health counselling learning process in the context of health promotion. The theoretical backg…

Non-naturalistic Neuroethics for Moral Neuroeducation

2019

The aim of this chapter is to examine a series of key approaches towards identifying an appropriate neuroethics for moral neuroeducation. I begin by highlighting the shortcomings of neuroeducation models that side-line ethical issues. Neuroscience has contributed decisively to the knowledge of the brain mechanisms involved in teaching and learning processes. However, often only one form of learning, that based on instrumental subjects (mathematical calculation or reading), is taken into account. Undoubtedly, neuroeducational advances in this area have been very beneficial, but by focusing on education in strictly instrumental terms, the principles and ethical values that should structure ed…

Everyday Discourses on Disability: A barrier to successful disability policy?

2006

Concerning the role of everyday discourses on disability in the realiza- tion of disability policy, this qualitative study focuses on the problematic meanings of disability and of being disabled in 45 fictional texts about a disabled woman and man (21/24) written by non-disabled graduate students and welfare professionals. The traditional individualising un- derstanding of disability was dominant in the discourses of the texts, especially in those about the disabled women which also repeated oth- ering discourses. The socio-environmental understanding was echoed as well, but mainly in the texts about the disabled men. I discuss the possible practical consequences of the polarised and gender…

The Pedagogical Solution: Freire’s Critical Pedagogy and Social Democracy

2016

‘A critical [educational] process is driven and justified by mutuality. This ethic of mutual development’, argued Ira Shor (2009) in the context of his analysis of Freire’s dialogic pedagogy, ‘can be thought as of a Freirean addition to the Vygotskyan one’ (p. 291). As this quote suggests, the aim of this chapter is to describe the essential feature of Paulo Freire’s solution to the conundrum that Lev Vygotsky’s framework stumbled upon. While Shor’s sentence hits the target, it relies on a widespread opinion among education scholars, who tend to emphasize the ethical component of critical pedagogy in general and Freire’s project in particular (Darder, 2009; Flores-Kastaris et al., 2009). In…

Identity, nation‐state and football in Spain. the evolution of nationalist feelings in Spanish Football

2007

This essay shows the importance of the identity component in the development of Spanish football from its birth at the beginning of the twentieth century, when football was organized at a regional level, until the present time when football reflects the democratic and post‐national Spain created after the arrival of democracy in the last quarter of the twentieth century. The essay expounds the existence of four periods in the development of the nationalistic feelings with which Spanish football has been embodied: the pre‐national or regional period, the period of Spanish nationalization, the period of strengthening of peripheral nationalisms and the post‐national period. In order to explain…

Geopolítica, (de)colonialidad e identidad: la conciencia dividida de Rubén Darío / Geopolitics, (De)coloniality and Identity: the Divided Consciousne…

2017
